Arrived in Memphis at 10:00pm after an 11 hour drive. On a map it doesn't look far until you SatNav it, which is really accurate. The Satnav has been fantastic as it takes the pressure off looking at a map. The Journey was really good. Driving into Atlanta, the freeway was 7 lanes !!!!!!! The roads over here are all 2 lane minimum and hardly any vehicles on them. What is also amazing are the number of lorries, you see why America needs oil. After Birmingham Alabama, there were hardly any ...

Made our trip!

from jenniferlfl
The staff was amazing, very friendly. Thank-you Jackie at the breakfast bar your above and beyond. The rooms were very clean and roomy. We totally enjoyed our stay!!!!

Extremely attentive staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I chose this hotel based on the number of good reviews. They were right. The staff at this hotel goes well beyond mere courtesy. They were warm, friendly, and very attentive. Rooms were very clean. Nice fluffy towels. Although the surrounding area was somewhat of a concern, I think I would stay there again.

Overall very impressed

from A TripAdvisor Member
The only thing that prevents me from rating this hotel as "excellent" was that the pool and pool area were a disaster. However, it could have been timing --I saw it at 6 am, and there appeared to have been a kids' birthday party in there the night before that the staff hadn't gotten around to cleaning up yet. I chose the hotel based on reviews here, and sure enough it's my dream road-trip or business-trip hotel, and even compares to some resort and casino hotels where I've stayed. Value price, all the in-room amenities (fridge and microwave in room, free ethernet high-speed internet, hair dryer, etc.), perfectly fine free breakfast bar, indoor pool and jacuzzi, and even an elegantly appointed lobby. My room and the whole hotel (except for pool area) were IMMACULATE! I thought the hotel was brand-new, but it's been there over three years. Staff was top-notch friendly and helpful, and hotel is very secure but not in too bad an area (considering).

Better than expected

The overall hotel was nice we got help with our bags and the staff was friendly. The hotel was secure at night and didn't worry about my car. The only thing was you can tell part of hotel is older because we had to slam our room door closed everytime we left or entered. Downtown Memphis is not very far no longer than 10min. depending on traffic and construction. I actually liked the hotel and my stay. Did not eat at hotel but heard someone say food was good. Not many TV channels but who goes out of town to watch TV. No the planes did not bother our sleep.

Great value, clean, quiet!

We stayed here overnight when we had an early flight the next morning. We thought the neighborhood was safe and fine, not a beautiful area, mostly commercial, but there was a Kroger down the road, so it was fine. The parking area had a gate around it. The staff was friendly and very nice. Our room was very clean and quiet. Good breakfast the next day (your usual, if you have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express) we had an airport shuttle at our service, about a six minute drive or so. Then when we came back, the shuttle picked us up and brought us to our car. Can't beat it. Great value for travellers!

Great Deal, Very Pleasant Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just came back from Memphis in May, during which time a buddy and I stayed at Holiday Inn Express for 2 nights. Extremely reasonably priced (65 bucks per night) included free continental breakfast and high speed internet (with their provided ethernet cable). Facility is very new and very clean, and I am picky! Room was quiet and well equipped. Breakfast is very simple, but free after all. Clientele, like most of Memphis, is pretty low rent, and I did not appreciate parents letting their kids run around without shoes or shirts in dining area (signs forbidding same not enforced by staff). Front desk staff was very nice and helpful but cleaning and other personnel were on auto pilot and had a somewhat surly, disenchanted air. That was my biggest complaint - these folks need to take a hint from the Ritz and do some customer service training. The pool and jacuzzi are housed in a surprisingly lovely atrium. Easy to get to from airport, and convenient to highway. The area is pretty dicey, however, but that is true of most of poor Memphis. No bad surprises and I would stay there again, assuming nothing was available closer to town (which was the case this time).

Loved our Stay at Holiday Inn Express - American Way

from Gracey5
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express - American Way during the week of March 26th through March 31st. This is a wonderful hotel. The staff is awesome. The breakfast every morning was great. The rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. The pool and spa was really great, especially for the children. It was a very active pool, with many other guests and their kids playing. The kids just loved it. But the staff at this hotel really helped to make our stay in Memphis even more memorable and enjoyable.

The staff of this hotel along with other people that we interacted with in Memphis was all so friendly. Memphis is one of the friendliest cities I have been to.

Graceland was even more than I imagined and Sun Studios is a place not to miss. The people of Sun Studios were awesome and our tour guide really helped put Sun Studios on the top of the list for us.

And for BBQ, don't miss out on Neely's, the food was absolutely great!!!

All in all, this was an awesome vacation. I will definitely be back!!

A very nice experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
My grandchildren, their mom's and I stayed in two rooms for 6 nights. The rooms were large, well-appointed, very clean and well located to all of our site-seeing needs. Although the area is a bit questionable, as a good deal of memphis seems to be, we felt safe and secure at this location. The motel was new and welcoming. The staff was the most accomodating and friendly as I have ever seen. They remembered your name and referred to you by it; when asked a question they not only answered it but went over and above what was necessary to assist you! They seemed to honestly be interested in the quality of your stay. Over the 6 days we had numerous conversations/interactions with the staff members that were friendly, informative and even comical. A great experience! The breakfast was adequate and the indoor pool/spa kept the children entertained. I absolutely recommend this motel and would return there.

Great- loved the staff

Nice hotel. Area is not the best, but the staff totally are! Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast made waking up early not such a chore!

Loved the Jacuzzi Suite

from A TripAdvisor Member
A very nice little hotel. Pleasant staff. Nice continental breakfast.

Indoor pool, hot tub, exercise room. Loved the $89 jacuzzi suite!!

Though it's not really the kind of suite you'd want to share with someone else, as the jacuzzi is right in the "living room," but it was very relaxing for the two of us. Located in East Memphis, but convient to I-240 to get downtown or wherever.
