The phone rang at 7am from the automatic wakeup call that I accidently set last night. I got up and had the longest shower of my life. By the time I got out, it was about time to wake up and Tim and Ainsley so that they could get ready. We met Nanny, Poppy and Aunty Judy down at the buffet breakfast. It was actually really gross so we didn't eat …

... we are determined not to go inside, we don't want to miss anything. We are going for about an hour and starting to get a bit worried we are not going to find whales at all. Then the naturilst on board shouts a spout at 12 o'clock everybody rushes to the pointed end. Terry insists on calling it the bow. Well fantastic we see a pod of killer whales right in front of us, being shadowed by Albatros, they are beautiful. ...

... This is their molting season, not the mating season, and we could see some that had what looked like ragged old rugs on their backs while others were already slick and velvety looking. This must have been what we heard in Morro Bay last night rather than Sea Lions.

This was a perfect day for driving up the Coastal Highway. Of the several times we have made this trip both driving northward and driving south, this was the best drive we ...

    New, clean, good value

    from anonymous

New, clean, modern, good sized rooms. Good value for < $100.

The only downsides are the soundproofing, which seems to be absent, and Marina itself which seems to be a half-abandoned military facility. Fortunately Monterey is only moments away...

We were recommended a restaurant ("Dishes"?) by the front desk which was pretty poor - cold soup, plastic-cloth-covered tables in a barn. You might do better looking for restaurants in Monterey than Marina.

    $$$ for your money

    from Blacklab0925

After seeing $$$ prices for Monterey Hotels, I decided to stay here. I was worried about the drive to Monterey but it's less than 10 minutes away and you cannot beat the price. Walls may have been thin but isn't that usually the case. The hotel was very clean, room spacious, and staff helpful. Would stay here again.

    Very Disappointed

    from anonymous

Very disappointed in our stay in Marina. The room was nothing like the picture on the web sight. But was clean. The walls very thin could here everything going on. Air conditioning unit ran all night long. For $179 per night was very disappointed in this property.

Nice, newer hotel. But needs better soundproofing.

    from anonymous

I found this hotel through the CVB and got a pretty good rate with them.

The hotel is conveniently located just off Hwy 1. The traffic noise is mainly from local traffic. The construction on this hotel is new and lacks soundproofing in the walls. Be warned...do not accept rooms on the lower (basement) floor. You will likely get all of the noise from the lobby and breakfast area starting at 5am.

The staff and manager were very friendly. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the spa is very nicely done too.

Also, there is no pool. I liked the breakfast, it is one of the best I have had at hotels. The fruit at the front desk is very fresh and a great snack for your travels in Monterey.

    Wonderful hotel!

    from anonymous

We had an enjoyable 2 night stay at this very new, very clean and large room hotel. What a find as it is only 10 minutes from the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf at half the cost of a Monterey hotel! The hotel staff were very friendly, the continental breakfast room was lovely and spacious and the laundry room was right next to the lobby. We would highly recommend this hotel!

    Excellent stay

    from anonymous

I had an excellent stay at the hotel on 29 January 2004. It is almost new, clean, nicely appointed, and had free internet access. Staff was particularly helpful with directions, maps and restaurant recommendations. I also had problems accessing the internet initially.

They promptly diagosed the problem and let me borrow a connection cable that worked. I would stay here again without question.

    Loved the Holiday Inn Express

    from anonymous

What a wonderful hotel! Our guestroom was brand new and beautiful. Our stay included free coffee, high speed internet iconnection, hairdryer, iron, and a wonderful breakfast. The staff was so friendly and helpful.

    Great!@

    from anonymous

I am a Government employee and stay here just about every week. It's probably one of the best Holiday Inn Express I have stayed in and the rooms new, clean and have free high speed connectivity.

    Service was horrible

    from anonymous

This hotel was horrible! When I had arrived, I was given a room that was already used. Then when I requested another room, they told me that they were all booked and they didn't have one. There was no extra effort taken by the hotel to accomodate me. Then after some more prodding, the receptionist realized that there was another room available for me to use. Plus I had reserved a suite. The suite turned out to be a guestroom with a couch. The only thing good at this hotel was the express breakfast. Other than that, this place is not worth your money or your time. I will never stay there again!

    Great new hotel

    from anonymous

This is a new hotel with realy nice furnishings and landscaping. Yes, it a few min. from downtown Monterey and Carmel but it feels so nice being away from the traffic.

the sate beach is within walking distance and a good jogging path circles the lake just accross the street.

My rating is that this is a good bet for when the downtown hotels are crowded or priced too high.

Good staff, clean rooms with tripple sheeted beds!
