Day 10 of 49 (Sep 17). Know how you can tell you're not in Texas? Cross 3 states in 4 hours! Yes, we left Montgomery, AL, crossed Georgia, and entered South Carolina. The worst part of the trip was there were NO rest areas in Georgia, so it was non-stop. In about three-quarters of a mile, we pulled into a parking area just before the bridge over Tamassee Creek and got ready for our next hike. In about 1.5 miles from the start, a bunch of branches and sticks blocking the trail indicated the end so we turned left to head down to river level, right where Long Creek flows into ...

... Pot Luck dinners and other social events. The Keowee Sailing Club (calling it a Yacht Club is not permitted - this is a down- to-earth group) has been the site of a number of the events. The guitar player in the photo is a neighbor of the Hackett's and likewise is becoming a good friend of the Becker's.

August 21st was Aaron's 23rd birthday. The Hackett's hosted a BBQ in his honor. We started ...

... we had to fly on a small plane from Fairbanks to the very small village of Bettles and fly from there on an even smaller float plane into each park for a brief hour or two of short hiking.

The major attraction in Glacier Bay NP was the bay itself. We took the day-long boat tour into the bay for a relatively close up look at several glaciers, a couple of which were tidal glaciers that 'calved' huge chunks of ice into the bay. Though we did not get ...
