Southern Spain

So today is our last day and we are both ready to be done with it! We arrived not until noon in Alicante and we had reserved an excursion to see two towns near Alicante. One was Jalon and is famous for Muscatel wine and the other was Aleta famous for nothing except that the tour guide lives there. So this day turned out to be a double holiday in Spain and ...

Flipflop hike

... to jagged rocks, slippery mud and cliff faces accented with a million seagulls (and their droppings...). We persevered up the majority of the trail until we got to a point where we were using ropes for balance as we went up steeper rock faces. Now I wouldn't call this a challenging hike, perhaps a bit technical but in flip flops it was HELL! We finally called it ...

Caminamos en Alicante

These pictures are from me trying to take a photo of myself writing with my ancient feather pen from the Alicante market and from walking around Alicante on a tour of the the two cathedrals, San Nicolas y Santa Barbara.
The pictures later are from our visit to two little pueblos just outside of Alicante; Guadalest and Altea. In the little town of Guadalest is a beautiful castle ...

Para Empezar

... pretty amazing since it was pretty expensive I bet to feed like 20 plus people. I tried some authentic Spanish jamón y queso and lots of other dishes that they didn't tell us the names of! Frustrating! One was really interesting it was a boiled egg that was fried in a batter and served. At first I thought it was a chicken nugget then I thought it was fried cheese then I realized there was yoke.
Some of the people in our ...

Day 40 - "Uno PLATO!!"

Has to be the funniest morning yet. The three of us and the two Belgians got up early to get some breakfast from the cafeteria. We mistakenly thought it was all you can eat. . . It wasnt. We were the first group of people in the cafeteria and we tried to make 5 sandwiches each and stuff our pockets full of fruit and biscuits for the day. We used up all of the cheese and ham which was laid out on individual plates. The ...

Day 39- Who needs uni if you have a british nutter

... consists of three countries". So, in my English accent i played along and said "I am English". He said " they don't teach you things like that in uni, but its important". Agreeingly, I replied "well, I have been to uni and they certainly did not teach me that". He then said that the best way to keep your passport safe is to bury it. Well after loosing the coke bottle in the sand this certainly wasnt an option for me. However, it may be an idea to buy Alex a shovel.

Day 38 - Dancing like motherbitches!

So, day 2 in Alacant. Had to start off by finding the British consulate so Alex can get a new passport. After a pretty standard day we bought some cheap Sangria and food which we cooked in the courtyard of the hostel. Thats right 7 euros a night and it has an f-in courtyard. We cooked food, drank and ate with a few of the German dudes whilst the rest of the guys where lost in the city. After ...

Day 37 - Amazing night, Amazing to have a room!

... legends. We missioned round the town looking for beer, when we found it we sat outside the door of the shop on the floor drinking. . . we were soon moved on. Fortunatelly, there was a bench round the corner and Vince had a harmonica. They were robbed in Barcalona like us. So, we sang the Peniscola/Barcalona blues. "going down to Barcalona. . . . Ain't as bad as Peniscola. . . . Takin' my ...

Day 36 - Tony Robbinson

... usual and fell asleep in a wierd location (motorway traffic Island) as usual. Then, as usual, whilst going to the toilet a big animal started rustling around in a bush next to me. I nonchalently threw a massive rock in there to freak it out.

Then we soundly fell asleep to the sound of heavy traffic a few meters away.

Three Cheers for the Cherimoyas!

... remember. Yum! How could a fruit be so rich and dessertlike yet refreshing at the same time? I don't know the answer to that but I plan to get my fill of them while I am here just in case there is another cherimoya drought in my life again. I worked for the next few hours drinking tea tea and more tea. Fed came home at around 11ish and we headed out to grab a bite to eat. We went to a restaurant around the corner and got in just before they were closing the kitchen. They gave us bread ...
