Wouldn't you know it, it is National Monuments Day and we didn't have to pay 12 Euros to visit...we have been very lucky on this trip (well except for Aegean Air...maybe you all should buy their stock??? Their business model might keep all of Greece a float!)

    ... But oh well, we had the time of our lives on Santorini, Aegean Air can't take that away!
    Got to Athens fine and our driver gave us a brief tour of the area. So much history!!!Hotel is the Electra Palace, chose it for the view of the Acropolis...very nice. Got there and the check in clerk said he had a surprise...his buddy next to him leaned over and said "We lost your reservation" with a wink! Our surprise??? They moved us to ...

    ... a street in the town over called Troy, that looked pretty run down and had lots of people loitering on street corners. I could have been from an episode of 'Cops'. Bec was keen to keep moving at that point in time. But we ended up opposite the University in Albany, which looks to be a pretty good neighbourhood.
    Tomorrow we plan to get to either Scranton or Wilkes Barre in Pennsylvania, and the following day, Amish ...

    ... next day, we visited our friends Doug and Garth at the incomparable American Hotel in Sharon Springs. If you haven't been to this town and live in the northeast - go. It is a gorgeous place and Doug & Garth are consummate hosts.

    Fed, rested, caffeinated, we headed back out on the road, which is where Day Two picks up.

    (ASIDE: apologies that I'm writing the first three days after the fact. Turns out, trying to write a blog on a cellphone doesn't work so well.)
