Headed to sun and fun!

We left Michigan about 2 pm, arrived in San Juan at 8 pm. It was still near 80 degrees! The warm weather felt so good. We got a taxi to the hotel, then went to find some dinner. We walked around the corner and down a block or two to a little local cafe. We introduced Sarah to mofungo, a local staple made of plantains and served with meat or seafood. She tried the "sweet" mofungo with crab. Paul had the "green" mofungo with pork. Lisa introduced Mike to mojitos - the rum and lime drink. The f...

Rum and Rain Forest

Back in Peurto Rico... Breakfast on the ship, then back to the island for a day of sightseeing. We were at our hotel by 9am. We wanted to go to the rainforest. The tour offered by the hotel had already left, so Mike arranged to hire a taxi and guide for the day to take us to both the Bacardi distillery and the rainforest. It was a great idea. First we went to the distillery, where we heard the story of Bacardi rum. After the tour we had two tastings and the opportunity to shop in the gift sho...

Arrival in San Juan, PR

In urgent need of a break of city live I decided to kidnap my friend that travelled half across the world from Austria to visit me in New York City and took off to Puerto Rico. Neither in the mood nor having time to plan out the trip I spoke to a few Puerto Rican friends and fellow tourists before heading out but decided against booking any hotel or anything but the flight. With a little tourist guide in hand we headed out on the midnight flight and arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico just befor...

Terrible Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were promised a fridge, before we arrived, for my husband's food samples for a business meeting. Upon arrival, they said they have to fridges. Charged for parking, but there was no parking because spaces were all blocked in and they don't bother to have the violators towed. AC stopped working, faucet handle kept coming off, tub liner leaked and it felt like you were standing on a water mattress, fumigators came in and sprayed while we were in the room, even before we told them the room had bugs, some staff very unfriendly. Would never stay here again.

Not all that

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me & My Family Stayed for Spring Break April 2004, First of All the Room Is Sooo Small You Have No Space. Then There Was this Horrible Smell, Problems with the Pipes in the Bathroom. We Tried to Have Our Room Changed, but That Wasnt Possible We Called the Front Desk to Complain and All We Got Was a Deordizer Spray That Really Didnt Help. The Free Contiental Breakfast Is Ok. The Swimming Pool Is Also Small and When We Tried to Get in the Jacuzzi the Water Was Boiling Hot That My Skin Burned. The Staff Speak English Which Is Good, but I Think There over Priced and We Werent Satisfied. We Would Not Stay There Again!

Low price, but you get what you pay for

from pinkypinksand
I wasn't crazy about this hotel, and I'm not that picky about my hotels/hotel rooms. We stayed here because it was the cheapest rate we found for San Juan. The first night we were right by the maids' station, so it was VERY noisy early in the morning! The hotel rooms were kind of dark and grimy; peeling paint, burned out lightbulbs; poor ventilation. I wouldn't stay here again if I could help it.

PROS: inexpensive; close to the beach; nice pool area; large rooms; lots of cable channels

CONS: dark, dingy rooms that could use some maintennance; apathetic staff; small elevators that take forever; hotel has a "lived-in" feel

Holiday Inn Express

Hotel is in a very central and convenient location. Within walking distance of Wyndham Condado and Marriott. Also a couple of good restaurants within walking distance. My room was reserved and paid for with Priority Club points. Stayed two nights, but non-consecutive. Check-in was smooth on both occasions. Parking is kind of a hassle. The hotel has very limited parking and it is not accessible until you check in and get access from the front desk. In the meantime, you most likely will have to park illegally, but it didn?t seem to matter in San Juan. Parking is $10 a day; I was not charged for it on my 1st stay, but was on the 2nd. The 2nd room I had must have recently been renovated. Everything seemed new. It was decorated very nicely, but the rooms are very small, as is the bathroom. Free continental breakfast was very good ? breads, danish, bagels, juices, coffee and hard boiled eggs. Pool is small, but very nice, surrounded by several lounge chairs. Overall the staff was very nice and helpful. I would stay there again.

Tiny rooms and elevators, but good price/location

from lebelgo
No parking when we arrived. By some miracle, we found street parking.

Two small elevators for a fairly large hotel, and there aren't any service elevators, so it's sometimes quite a chore getting to your room, especially with luggage. Our 6th floor rooms were quiet and had a peek-a-boo view of the ocean. The rooms were clean but so small that you could only open suitcases on your bed, and you had to squeeze by one bed to get to the other. The pool area was surprisingly nice, as was the continental breakfast. Overall, a reasonable budget choice if you like to be near the Condado action, but don't expect a lot of room, luxury, or parking.

Pleasant, great pool area...

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in feb. 2004-the room was comfortable and the pool area was great-it has a fountain going into the pool and a hot tub right next to the pool, the area was enclosed and very private....except for parking which was a real problem as it seems to be on most of the island, we had a pleasant stay. Would recommend this location as it is close to shopping, restaurants, beach area.

Great location/nice rooms

The Holiday Inn Express (formerly the Comfort Tanama Princess) is a seven-storey hotel in the Condado region and only a short walk to the ocean. The rooms are super-clean and boast the largest king-sized beds I have ever seen (and I've lived and travelled on 3 continents!) The hotel has a lovely little outdoor pool (clean!)and whirlpool (hot!) and the continental breakfast is included! Internet price: $107US. I've read all the hotel reviews for San Juan and so many visitors are paying exorbitant prices for unacceptable lodging! We stayed here twice on layovers to and from DR...no disappontments!

Tanama should be your last resort

from ohiodude
This was easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The only thing it has going for it is price. My list of things that were wrong with the place is long, but it includes bugs, unhappy staff, unhelpful staff and a dirty room. Stay here only if you can find nothing cheaper.

Under renovation, Everything could be cleaner, Great location, Close to Ocean Beach

(787) 724-4160 New furniture and paint in rooms , some cosmetic details in renovation have been overlooked. The bathroom door hinges were covered in rust. Baseboard trim was falling off the wall. Construction materials were stored in the stairwells but you could get past the stored items. Dirt/Grim on floor in corners of Elevator and rooms. Vending machines & hair dryer not working. A/C, Cable TV, Outdoor Pool & Whirlpool, 2 small slow elevators. Continental breakfast ok. Small excercise room. 5 to 10 Minute walking distance to Walgreens, Pizza Hut, Wendys, Subway, Mariott Hotel, or other nice resturants or small grocery stores. Ride the city bus to Old San Juan for 25 cents. Ride the trolley thru Old San Juan for free. Both make several stops. Front Desk will call a taxi for you if needed. Taxi's have set rates. Great value for a nice room

from A TripAdvisor Member
The rooms where clean a newly remodeled. They are still cleaning up the outside of the hotel but this should be completed in a month or so. They are a continental breakfast but it was very light. The staff was helpful and considerate. Room service was provided every day. I will definitely stay here again.
