Darwin via Edith Falls

After breakfast of pancakes we travelled to Katherine and then onto Edith Falls. At Edith Falls I swan in a pool that is inhabited by freshwater crocodiles. I took me a while to pluck up the courage to get in but some Australian tourists persuaded me by informing me that freshies only go for you if you annoy them - I had no intention of doing that!

I past on the offer of a free dinner in Darwin when I saw my hotel. It was soooo wonderful to check into a 4 star hotel, have two double be...

From Darwin to Berry Springs

So we arrive in Darwin in the early hours of 29th June. Before long we are checked into the comfortable embrace of Denise's most favourite global hotel chain. And thankfully on this occasion the kids are not up 4 hours later at dawn, but sleep in wonderfully. When we do rouse ourselves later on the the Sunday we begin a 2 day outfitting process, by the end of which the kids have decided this camping malarkey is no fun at all and are ready to go home; "But Dad, all we do is go to shopping mall...

Darwin and it's surrounds

Before arriving in the City centre, we stopped at the Darwin Croc Farm... Stu and I argreed that Broome Croc Farm is heaps better (as you get to hold the baby crocs, but also because it wasn't as smelly). The only good thing about Darwin Croc Farm is the 'Whiite' Croc... called Snowy... apparently there are only 3 crocs like this in captivity! We left the farm and about 30 mins later arrived at our accommodation for the next three nights... 'Holiday Inn, Darwin Esplanade'... AIR-CON - we love...

Just a stopover to stock up

... at this stage).

We drove out and basically drove straight to Darwin from there. We arrived early afternoon, set up (sweating galore – it's really humid) and had some lunch. We went to the pool in the afternoon and then went into town for some dinner in the evening. It has thankfully cooled down more here than in Kakadu so we ...

Build up season

We have arrived in Darwin at the beginning of the build up. Hot and humid is the order of the day.
We are staying at the Robbie Robins Reserve which is the home of the Darwin Polo club and Berrimah Pony Club and Rodeo ground.
There are lots of pony club activities (next door) at the weekend.
The Polo club has about 4 meeting per year, and they do not use the ground during this hot humid time.
There was a rodeo on mid September which we went too ...

Darwin - Ah to see the sea again!

Today (24th July) we may go to The Darwin Show – I am keen to see the dogs again and there are cats and all sorts of livestock there as well as the polo matches, show jumping, rodeo, amazing drumming monkey show and I just can't remember everything on offer.  Just waiting to see how Steve feels today after his snooze!!

So more to come as lots to see and do around here – looking forward to Litchfield Park and the beautiful promised ...

... and all sorts of things glued to his bonnet. Of course John stopped to talk to him and it was probably one of the funniest things we have done. He told us he was raising money to buy 2 legs for a sailor who had none - and that even if he could the money for one leg that would be better then none :) to take a photo we had nto donate to his cause - which was probably his poket, but for $2 it was worth the laugh.

We started off eating some ...
