116 The Esplanade Darwin, Top End, Northern Territory, Australia, 0801, 8-8980-0800
After breakfast of pancakes we travelled to Katherine and then onto Edith Falls. At Edith Falls I swan in a pool that is inhabited by freshwater crocodiles. I took me a while to pluck up the courage to get in but some Australian tourists persuaded me by informing me that freshies only go for you if you annoy them - I had no intention of doing that!

So we arrive in Darwin in the early hours of 29th June. Before long we are checked into the comfortable embrace of Denise's most favourite global hotel chain. And thankfully on this occasion the kids are not up 4 hours later at dawn, but sleep in wonderfully. When we do rouse ourselves later on the the Sunday we begin a 2 day outfitting process, by the end of which the kids have decided this camping malarkey is no fun at all and are ready to go home; "But Dad, all we do is go to shopping mall...
Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia pardellosalmonBefore arriving in the City centre, we stopped at the Darwin Croc Farm... Stu and I argreed that Broome Croc Farm is heaps better (as you get to hold the baby crocs, but also because it wasn't as smelly). The only good thing about Darwin Croc Farm is the 'Whiite' Croc... called Snowy... apparently there are only 3 crocs like this in captivity! We left the farm and about 30 mins later arrived at our accommodation for the next three nights... 'Holiday Inn, Darwin Esplanade'... AIR-CON - we love...

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia sigurd... to Darwin.

Arrived 4.30am and came into town for breakfast at the all night cafe. The hostel here is great and right on the end of the main street so not too far to go for shopping and drinkies. Hired a car right away and went off to Litchfield National Park yesterday. Really fabulous scenery and places to swim, although we didn't go in the water. Just my luck a croc would chew my leg off and I'm not insured for it. Was very tempting though as it has been 42 ...
Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia phillandtracey... this moderately confusing as in Weipa (Cape York, QLD) one could only procure cask wine after 5.30pm nightly without a limit. Our hopes of a campsite, bush lovers party have been dashed for the time being. Anyway, 30kms outside of Katherine is the natural wonder of Katherine gorge. We’re talking high cliff walls, deep water, a gorge in the sense of a gorge. We inflated our blue kayak, loaded a plastic water tight ...
Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia dustydownloads... off but we know it won’t be long before we see everyone again. Thanks for coming guys, we love you!!!!! (will, kylie, matt and livi, we missed you TERRIBLY, maybe next time?).

Monday morning it is time for us Hindmarsh’s to get back on the road. Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia hindmarsh... and exhibitions, like "Feeding at the Billabong" where we saw crocs, barramundi and pelicans having their daily feed. I even managed to join in on one display which was a new exhibition about creek water creatures. I had to wade into shallow water where I was handed a piece of fish meat and suddenly a 1.2m in diameter whipray swam up to me, glided along my shins where I then put my hand in the water and he swam over the top of it to locate ...

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia rossport... the market is set in the sort of shopping square. There were all the similar stalls to Mindil Beach plus lots of fresh fruit and veggies stalls so a good opportunity to stock up on those foods.

After that we went to the Casuarina Coastal Reserve and had a stroll along the beach and then back through the reserve area – lovely area. Then a quick visit to the Casuarina Shopping Complex for me to see what shops there were there – haven’t seen anything like a Myers ...
