It was a great 2nd day in the finger lakes! We started the morning by going to Watkins Glen State Park, which is right at the base of Seneca Lake. It was a beautiful hike along the waterfalls...we took the gorge trail north and then the Indian trail south. A very hot day, so a hike along the water in the shade was perfect! After the hike was done, we had a picnic lunch at ...

... wind which I was told is not good for Gliding. Good wind ensures that the glider is in the Air for a longer Duration.

There is also an amusement park closeby where children can enjoy, and you also get to see a Big Golf Course, with people trying their shots.

Overall a nice place if you are passing by Elmira, or are visiting Watkins, to add to the places to visit. I doubt anyone would like to travel 4-5 hours to just visit this place.

We had started the trip to Watkins Glen from Edison in New Jersey in the morning hours of July 25th. Having set the paths on the GPS the route we decided on was through Scranton and Binghamton.

When we reached, the GPS took us to the upper entrance of the Park. The Park has three places that one can enter from, the Upper Entrance, the South Entrance and the Main Entrance.

The upper entrance had some park area where kids 5 to 12 can play, other than ...

... and pulled the kayak up on the bank. Then we followed the sound to the falls, wading through thigh deep water to get there. The falls were a lot bigger than I expected. Some young guys had climbed up onto the falls. It looked awfully dangerous to me but that’s what young guys do. The whole trip there and back took 1 hr 45 min, beating the other couple both ways.

After we checking in the kayak we had a Reuben sandwich and awesome sweet potato fries (crinkle cut, ...

... beyond the gorge. Shortly after that there’s an overlook directly opposite Lucifer Falls. It took us about 20 min to get to the end of the trail from there. The trail is pretty level after that so taking the Upper Gorge Trail CCW to the overlook (or as far as the staircase) will give you nice view if you can’t handle the climbing.

We made it back to the hotel and got cleaned up then drove a few minutes to Horseheads for a nice dinner at Louies Hanover Square. ...
