Alabama's hidden gem?

We'll see if we make it, but I bet it would be fun if we do.
Getting soaked in Montgomery

... on a two lane road at the time and didn't want to take any chances. I pulled over into a closed gas station that had an over hang that looked like it was about to fall over. At the moment it was all I had to take cover.

I rode until about 830pm local time and headed up getting a hotel in Meridian, Miss. Its a tiny town with a lot of hotels. I took my time this morning. In fact I slept in until about 10am. After a 15 hour day I really needed the sleep.

The restaurant (or hall for dining) was near closing but they let us sit - not many Northerners come around and they're curious. It would appear they were probably waiting for someone such as construction workers to come a long and offer them a job for the day. It was actually quite sad to see so many looking for work that way with little hope of actually getting anything, especially considering it was quite late in the day.
