Off from the hotel at 9.00. Breakfast was short and sweet with not much to choose from. We have come to the conclusion that Quality Inn is what Comfort Inns get dropped down to when their standards start to slip or the hotel gets neglected.

We ventured out of Chester this morning competing for space on the highway for 8 miles with monstrous coal trucks!!! Shortly after reaching Cora, however, we were rewarded with miles of traffic-free riding on the Mississippi River Levee making our way through fields of corn and soy bean. Pure hell on the road followed by some of the most beautiful and peaceful cycling that you could ...

... and into the winding roads of the Shawnee Hills. There are many vineyards but we chose just a few of the more established ones to visit. Mostly the wines weren't as nice as we had hoped and they weren't the slick operations we had seen elsewhere but we did find a nice red and a very tasty craft beer. From the last stop it was only a short drive to our accommodation, a large former ...
