We caught a glimpse of the beautiful emerald lagoon, which was almost worth the clamber up some very steep paths. We left The Oliver's to enjoy a fancy hotel on Koh Samui's north coast whilst we caught an overnight train down south, crossing the Thai-Malaysian border and arriving in Butterworth (very colonial sounding). We spent just one night in Malaysia, on the island of ...

... coast) with quality, modern infrastructure – roads, rail, ports, public and private buildings. It's lighter and slightly warmer than home at present! We toured The Perth Mint, watched gold being poured, and found the tour most interesting. We explored the shops and walked along the river park. We lunched at 'The Lucky Shag’ which is on the waterfront, but currently isolated by a massive building project – the legacy of the Premier.
