Avenida Dom Joao III 29, (Formerly Holiday Inn Azores) Ponta delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, 9500, 296-630000
... put on consignment. I think i was there for a quite a while as it was so nice not to see the usual tshirts and baseball hats. After a nice walk around the harbor enjoying the sun and view we came back to the ship to meet up with our tour . As the Azores consists of nine islands out here 800 miles in the Atlantic off of Portugal, we visited the largest of Ponta Delgada. It is a volcanic island and very ...
Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal sscaswell... languages "thank you" with the flag next to it, norwegian, british, swedish, german, etc. my mom says, "i can´t belive that they don´t have the american flag on there! that´s horrible". i look and see the british flag with "thank you" next to it. i look at her and say, "there´s a reason they call it english, you know." she laughs heartily and tries to subtly remove my hand from the pringles jar thinking i won´t notice in my ...
sao miguel, Azores, Portugal horizon_chaser... but didn't buy anything (this time). And dinner was a killer. A Murder Mystery dinner to be exact. We went with two Cruise Critic couples and we each played a role in a little mystery set at a Hawaiian luau. For our table of six, we had to determine which of us murdered a man that we all had ties to. Diane played the role of Holly Day, the socialite wife of a billionaire (how's that for type ...
Ponta Delgada, Portugal ronmystyk... strikingly beautiful, and the lifestyle is very relaxed. Manuel Couto lives in a small room in constant pain day and night. He has a hereditary and incurable disease called Machado-Joseph (or ataxia type 3). This disease is a type of spinocerebellar ataxia that causes ophthalmoplegia, which affects the muscles in the eyes, and mixed sensory and cerebellar ataxia, or lack of coordination of muscle movements. I felt extremely humbled when confronted with ...
Azores, Portugal jorgedecampos... all too soon. Friday 10/04/09 Ponta Delgada - São Miguel the Azures Temps Air 8°C Sea 19°C Arrived slightly later than expected due to the constant headwinds (well that's the Captains excuse) the eastern half of the island is still covered in heavy cloud with light mist over the Western half. We had planned to get a taxi and visit the Blue & Green lakes but in view of the poor visibility we ...
Ponta delgada, Azores, Portugal easygeeze... While we were there they were having the Festival of the Holy Spirit so there were parades and bands playing. We hired a car and drove around the island in typical Crossley fashion, getting lost several times. Fortunately the island is not that big. The coastline is just one windy curve after another with small towns built into the coves. There is an beautiful green lake which has hot sulphur springs.
Azores, Azores, Portugal ritasilvaBon noite! Here we are after our final day here in the Azores, and what a day it has been. We fly out bright and early to Lisboa, so this will be short due to our complete exhaustion... The day began with the long-awaited dolphin/whale watch... And we saw a HUGE pod of dolphins! AMAZING! See the pictures... Then, we attempted to attend Mass in the church our ancestors built, only to ...
Sao Miguel, Portugal k8eandco... we arrived, at least, in Lombhina da Maia, finding the church that our ancestors built over a century ago not only still standing, but recently renovated and marked with a plaque honoring its centennial in 2001. Check out the photos of the church and the plaque... We hope to attend Mass there on Sunday!! We hope you are all well and wish we could be sharing this with you in person! Much love, Jen, Tim, Katie and Ruth 18 Abril 2008 Praia, Sao Miguel, Portugal
Sao Miguel, Portugal k8eandco... the following morning. I was only at the airport to pick up the shuttle to a cheap hotel nearby. I got to the hotel at 10pm - it wasn't much to see but it was good for what I wanted, which was a private place to sleep and a wakeup call to get the 6am shuttle back to the airport.
April 16th -
My wake up call came 15 minutes late, leaving me five minutes to get ready and get down to the shuttle. Thanking my laziness in falling asleep in my clothes and not ...
