In the interest of throwing a stick in the gears of an otherwise empty weekend, I decided to kidnap two of my dearest girly-pals and jet set ('car set,' rather) to that great big nerve center of Tejas scholarship and government - the one, the only, THE Austin, TX. And in answer to all of the utterly ****, rainbow tie-dye "Keep Austin Weird" (and tourism on the cheap, apparently, as you are choosing to vacation in Texas of all places) T-Shirts floating around the city, I have only this to say:...

Today we went to Austin, the live music capital of the world.
Getting out of Houston took some time because....you guessed it......it's huge. It also has massive highway interchanges which look like a pile of discarded electrical cables.....and at first glance they look about the same width as those cables. We drive in one side feeling like a child’s toy car on a Hot Wheels and after doing some somersaults and figure eights we get spat out the other side, somehow,...

... unable to see it. We had a nice day walking around the downtown area and just enjoying the awesome weather. We had some lunch at Whole Foods Market and enjoyed people watching at the capital building. After the long day of walking we found a this cool little bar, Little Woodrow's and watched the Yankes/LA. Not a bad way to end our stay in Austin, good beer and baseball playoffs!
Till the next time,

... they also airlifted another person out. It keeps coming back to my mind periodically. Just changed the mood of the car for a while, knowing what was taking place. But all in all it was a good day. Dad and Mom seemed to have really enjoyed the day as well. So tomorrow we go to the LBJ library and drive to Dallas, and then in Dallas we do Deally Plaza and the 6th floor museum.
Austin, Texas, United States kayaker902Alaska Airlines I hear just started doing this direct flight from Seattle to Austin which is cool because it got me here in 3.5 hours. Another 20 min public bus ride for 75 cents and I was at my hotel. I spent the early evening walking around from 6th @ Guadelupe down to 2nd, as far east cas Neche, north to the State Capitol and a bunch of streets in between.
I did the game of count the ...
... up, once again handing off to the alternator. Key point: Money spent on batteries is nice and a good investment. But if your alternator is not up to code, than it really isn't that well spent. The alternator is the core of a vehicles electrical system and should be regarded with such respect. If we can depend on our alternators condition and output, then we can grow and expand accordingly. Aren't engines amazing concepts? What a wonderful orchestra of chaos and fire.

And then when that person fails to be friend, mother, brother, poker buddy, gardening assistant, shoulder to cry on, handyman, mentor, student, and everything else possible, then resentment creeps in and poisons a relationship that you have both agreed must last for all of eternity. Seems nasty.
So why does date A, B, or C want me? They don’t. A and B knew quickly, and C comes around. What I never expected was a D ...
... home, after only a couple of years abroad, she turned 1. To recap, my brother had a girlfriend a day before I left, then when I got home, he had a 1-year-old. Time flies.
Eric is basically just a giant teddy bear, so he's an awesome dad. Libby was tons of fun to be around and we caught her at an amazing age. In front of our eyes, in the few months we were back in the States, she went from crawling to standing, then ...
... 3rd........ Not much to write about the last few days,we did find some unusual stores, an antique store that went on and on, that was a woolen mill factory a long time ago, beer barns, which are drive through (you order what you want from your car, someone gets it for you and you pay him, all without getting out of you car). We heard of a blueberry festival where they have blueberry whoppie pies. Turkey stuffing is called fillin in these parts. Tonight we having company, a woman ...
