White Water Rafting on the Reventazon River

A colleague of mine, Steven Wind, approached me one day and said "Dude, when are we going to go white water rafting in Costa Rica?"..... and that is how this trip evolved. After several weeks of switching potential dates we finally settled on flying down to San Jose on the evening of October 10th, arriving there around 9:30pm. Initially we had the following persons that were going to take this trip: Me, Steven, Ryan (Steven's friend), Jeremy (my buddy), Chuck (my buddy), Rusty (my brother), a...

Ready for bed in Costa Rica

We made it! We have just unpacked our suitcases and are in Central San Jose at the Aurola Holiday Inn. Initial impressions are that we won't be going out tonight as the streets seem to be busy but a bit risky. Everything has roll down shutter doors or large iron fences. It seems property crime is common. Our clothing makes us stick out like a sore thumb as La Tourista! I brought along a Dora The Explorer doll of my daughters so she can see her travelling the world. I will upload a photo in a ...

Feliz Navidad y Feliz ano nuevo

Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Central America!!! I know this comes late, and I apologies for not being more diligent in the update of this website; New Year has come with its new resolutions, so I promise you a close follow up of the events here. What happened was that I started getting used to the life here, such that I didn't know how to chare this anymore. At first everything was new, so much easier to describe, but after two months the problems started to show. While living in...

Welcome to Costa Rica!

So I woke up and left the Holiday Inn without breakfast. Even though I had free food coming to me, I had to get my white butt to the airport. In Line I met one girl going for ISV. She met one, and so that made 3 of us. We got to the gate and talked for a while. I saw another girl our age so I asked her, ¨ISV?¨ Yes! Come sit with us. We talked for a long while. I knew there had to be more ISV students there, so I made a paper with ISV written on it and collected 4 more students!! We all sat to...

One night in San José

... kind of dodgy. However, the hotel in itself had a nice feeling to it, and my room was really cosy – and had a TV and WIFI. I immediately used the opportunity to write home and tell I was OK, because my cell phone did not work. I sort of had suspected it, when I checked TDC’s roaming rates back home and was unable to find Costa Rica on their list. Even though I could manage to find a network, it would not let me access it ...

... of Biscay which can be very stormy, fingers crossed it will be a fine crossing. We land at 8.00 am Friday morning and then we drive across Spain to the Costa Calida where we plan to spend a few weeks in a small Spanish village called Roldan, then we move on to a town called Lo Pagan,
Wine Free for All!!!

We didn't have any plans for Cartagena. None of the excursions that HAL had planned sounded exciting and when we researched things to do in Cartagena, nothing looked appealing. So I went in search of plentiful cheap wine to stock up for the long ocean crossing to come (I hate paying the exorbitant prices for alcohol in bars and restaurants)…

So I found a supermercado in Cartagena with excellent prices and a good selection of wine. I ended up buying 9 ...

Day 41 - Lemonade

... this for charity man, stop judging us. Unfortunately, the bus route map didnt help. so, we just followed our compass south until we accidently took a back road to a near by village. Then after seeing non motor way signs to a town we needed to get to we celebrated by sleeping on the grass. After a short sleep we followed the signs, which eventually led us on to a motor way, AGAIN. Nightmare. right, so we just gave up and set up camp in a near by national park ...
