Clean and Orderly Singapore

After travelling 30 hours from Toronto to L.A. to Taipei to Singapore, we arrived at the airport where we found Singapore to be beautiful, clean and modern. Just as others had described it. We had no problem getting a taxi out of the airport to our hotel, the Holiday Inn Atrium, which was very nice. It consists of a tall tower with the rooms encircling the centre and glass elevators in the interior. When we got there, the room wasn't quite ready, so we decided to head into the town for some l...

2 Days in Singapore

Just after takeoff at O'Hare, we were informed that there would be a slight delay after landing in Tokyo, as they would be checking everyone's temperature prior to deplaning. Documents were then passed out to everyone asking them to write down if they were sick over the last ten days or in contact with anyone who was sick. "We've done this several times" the flight attendant stated, "and it only takes 15 minutes". This was then followed up with a reminder in about five different languages "Pl...

Singapore!

After a 12 hour flight we arrived in Singapore! The flight was horrible as for some very unfair reason I got a cold in Heathrow airport and had to sit through a 12 hour night flight trying not to sneeze and cough all over the man next to me!!!!

It is so hot here, it really is like being in a sauna! Luckily EVERYWHERE is air-conditioned. The first day in Singapore we went for a bit of a wander on Orchard Road which may be the best shopping centre in the world - I have never seen so man...

Back in Singapore!

Sam and I went to the 71st Floor in the swiss hotel and the views were amazing! You could pretty much see the whole city from there! Singapore looks great with all of its lights on at night. We had a drink at the bar there before going back to Raffles for a drink.

On Sams las day we went to Singapore Zoo which was good. The aminals aren't kept in cages, there are just moats around the enclosures and the monkey are pretty much free to roam where ever they would like! They had loads of a...

Sick In Singapore

Well here we are in Singapore, had heaps of fun in Hanoi - shame it was time to move on but I guess work beckons. Second last day I actually took a day tour out to Tam Coc which is also called Halong Bay on Land as there's heaps of 'mountains' like at halong bay only they're on land, jutting out of rice paddies and next to a river which makes for a very spectacular sight. I got rowede in a small flat bottom boat with the tour guide from our bus (who was enticed by the boat rower to help her),...

Stop #2... Lush SINGAPORE! (Early June 2008)

Yup, a few days ashore in Singapore... My buddy and I almost missed our duties the second day because we went to the wrong naval base. One was named Sembawang, where the good PX was, and the other, Changi, where we were berthed, were on two completely different sides of the island. This was great times... You'll have to ask me about Orchard Towers sometime.

Day 2 - Singapore - Chinatown and Little India

Taxi to Chinatown. Visited Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple and then browsed Chinatown. Bought some camera accessories, a gym/work bag and shoes for Eli. Then caught MRT to Little India. Not a flash place, much like the real India I imagine. Then caught the MRT to the Borgis St. Market. Not as big or as good as it was made out to be, but did get a cheap feed.

Historical Traveler Reviews of Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore

Good Value

from brentiesuk
Reading some of the other reviews regarding noise etc I am quite frankly surprised. Our room was on the 8th floor and to be honest I am a light sleeper and had no problems with any noise !!! Unless of course it echoes up the middle ? The rooms were large and very clean and we have no complaints with them. The breakfast we thought was expensive compared to restaurants outside the hotel. the other bad point is we sat down to breakfast 15 minutes before the end and had to grab for dishes as they were being whisked away under our noses. !! not impressed with that at all - why let peaple in to the dining room if you are going to start clearing away before the breakfast time ends . All in all fairly average place to stay.

Noisy

from munizaga
My company booked me in this hotel as all the other hotels were booked out due to the aerospace conference.

Good points are

Cheap - company rate was S$130 per night but this did not include breakfast so add another $25 and also they say they have WIFI internet but you need to purchase a card which cost S$30 for 24 hours.

Breakfast was limited but good.

Room was clean however after I returned after the first night no one had bothered to make up my room.

Bad points

Noisy - I was on the 12 floor and this is an atrium hotel so any noise on the lobby floor goes up through the hotel - there is a singer or band every night starting at 8.00pm until about 12.00pm and it is noisy - it would not matter what room you are in you cannot escape this noise. Secondly in the morning they have quite loud piped music in the lobby and I could hear it lying in my bed on the 12th floor.

Room service - I found when ringing for room service they rarely answered the phone but when you could get hold of someone the food was good.

The rooms are old and I found the staff generally disinterested. I think there are better hotels in Singapore.

Adequate

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here in February. It's an old hotel that has had many past lives - first as the Glass Hotel then as the Concorde Hotel and finally as a Holiday Inn.

Check in was fast and efficient. Was initally told my room was not ready but they managed to get me one immediately anyway.

I stayed on the Executive floor which is near the roof. Because the roof over the atrium is glass the corridors on the high executive floors are very hot. The room was small and old but clean. The bathroom was pretty standard. I went to the executive lounge to grab a bite but was told I could only eat the breakfast there starting the next day - which is fair enough but I though a little bit calculative of the hotel. After all the buffet breakfast at the exec lounge is only some pastries and cereal. How much can that cost?

The next day I did go to the executive lounge for breakfast. Not much choice but I was attended to by this superb waiter who was also a lot older than me. I felt really guilty being waited on and served by someone who could be my grandfather. Still, my hats off to him for giving such excellent service (he even offered to run down to the lobby restaurant where the omelette counter was and fetch me an omelette since the lounge buffer was cold stuff) and keeping his days productive.

Overall, the hotel was adequate for the business traveler.

Superb ... Highly Recommended

I stayed in this hotel in July 2002 for 5 nights en-route to a trip around Australia.

I have nothing but praise for this hotel ... pure luxury, and very very affordable.

Excellent service, excellent rooms, and superd food.

Cannot recommend it highly enough ... perfect.

Not like 4 stars hotel!

from oleh-oleh
We stayed there for 2 nites (10-12 July), nothing special for this hotel and it's not like the 4 stars hotel, maybe only 2-3 stars hotel, please do not expect too much. Although we got special rates from Singapore Stopover Holiday, for next time, we prefer to pay more to have a better hotel.

Good value

I stayed at this hostel for one night only. The room was a little bit old but the service was OK. Compared with other hotels with the same grade, the room rate was reasonable. The buffet breakfast was great. It had western and Japanese food. The staff was nice and friendly. The only bad comment was its location. You needed to walk around 15 minutes to the nearest MRT.

Great hotel for the price!

from tymothy
Stayed here for 4 days on our way to Bali and was very impressed. Friendly staff, great breakfast buffet. When we checked in at 3am we got to our room and realized the twin beds where to small we went back to the front desk and they changed us to queen bed with no complaints and no change in price. There is bus and shuttle services at the hotel but the taxi's are so cheap that we took them everyday. Also booked 2 tours at the hotel and where exteremly pleased with them. I know the previous review said the hotel was run down but I think they have down some redecorating, would stay here again!

Good hotel, good value

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed for two nights on a stopover. I found a great internet rate - S$92 for the first night and S$104 for the second. It took a little time to check us in (the receptionist was new) but there isn't anything else we could complain about during our stay.

We had a nice room on the 18th floor - had no problems with worn out fixtures or fittings in the room, and no problems with noise. The TV had a few english channels and the air-con worked well (it was nice and quiet). The pool was nice too - good views of the city from there too.

We didn't eat at the hotel but enjoyed cheap (ish) drinks during happy hour (5-9pm) in the bar. The location was perfect - easy to walk to all the bars and restaurants on Clark Quay. For a good value stay in a nice hotel I would definately recommend this place. It was a real bargain, and comfortable with it!

Nice hotel, begining to look tired and very noisy

from A TripAdvisor Member
I've stayed in good and bad hotels - unfortunately this is middle ground. When booking in I was told my reservation information was incorrect - I was paying a flat rate of S$115. When I got the bill it was exactly as my reservation information had explained - the S$115 dollars being the weekend rate and S$125 the week day rate.

Rooms are cleaned at 10:30 am, though you'll probably be woken by someone on the 27th floor long before then. This is because the hotel is entirely hollow - the rooms are dotted around the outside with a central space where the lifts run.

Unfortunately the doors to the rooms are quite thin. If you sneeze, you shouldn't doubt someone somewhere can hear you.

The rooms themselves are nicely furnished though my TV was badly tuned. There are several English channels - two of which seem to run off a video recorder. The laundry service and dry cleaning service were exceptionly good and quick - I recieved my suit within six hours when I had asked for next day delivery.

The fittings in the hotel are definately getting worn. My bathroom had cracks under the sink, the sink was pitted with marks, there was sellotape fixing some of the wallpaper & my lamp had a difficult time being switched on and off. My remote was wrapped in plastic to hold in the batteries and the curtains were missing bits which let light in in the morning.

You cannot hear any street noise and the air conditioning is very quiet. You can control both the temperature and the speed of the fans. There are two pools with the hotel, one on the 27th floor for executive rooms only, and one on the 6th. There is a self laundry service as well - the washing machines and dryers costing S$9 a go - the irons are free & there is a TV in the laundry room.

The 6th floor swiming pool is quite nice but small. I didn't get a chance to try the gym which is opposite the outside pool. There might have been a nice view from the pool, but it was very misty and or cloudy pretty much every day I stayed.

The hotel receptionists are very pleasant and helpful and the bar is exquistly expensive. They run a shuttle bus to orchard road and chinatown every hour or so - this is free but I never tried it. It was easier to catch the 64 bus from opposite the hotel and goto Doby Gahut station. Get an ez-link card as soon as possible - the buses don't give change.

Otherwise there is no easily walkable metro for dragging your case to. The airport organises a shuttle service for S$7 a head direct to your airport.
