A really nice hotel with easy access to the airport, and a convenient shuttle service. Staff allowed us to check in early. Very quiet and clean hotel.

Comfortable, Convenient, But hope Nothing Goes Wrong

    Large comfortable room
Location is convenient for the airport by complimentary shuttle bus
Reachable from the city by metro and a 15 minute walk
Staff friendly at first, but when the door lock jammed denying entry they blamed the guests. But the technician who opened it said it was a battery failure. It meant waiting an hour late at night for the technician to arrive and then a change of room. No apology was offered and no compensation. The hotel was prepaid, but on check out the next morning, there was some additional tax to pay of Euro 5.11. Having the exact coins of Euro 5.10 to offer was not good enough; they insisted on having Euro 5.11, which meant giving notes and getting a lot more coins in change. For all the disruption of the night before they were not prepared to offer even 1 cent in compensation.

... at the door, a well-dressed man whom I assume to be Axel Ruger opens it immediately, and we are ushered inside. Sure enough – it’s the great man himself – a world-wide authority on Van Gogh and long-time Director of the museum. He sees the valise, gestures for us to sit down, offers some mineral water (which we accept – my throat is dry) and indicates that I should commence with whatever it is that has brought me to his office on this fine, ...

... people, and what did they do to the Dutch? My faith was restored somewhat by Dad's cousin Wil, and his wife Bep, who barely spoke a word of English, so we had some enthralling conversations...! Lucky Dad's fluent in Dutch so he got us by, kept us a little in the loop. For all Daniel and I knew they could've disliked us! Lucky actions speak louder than undecipherable words, and when plate after plate of food came out as they entertained us, we knew we must've ...

The end is neigh and the next twi legs of travel are particularly long. The road from Berlin to Amsterdam started early and our first stop provided am opportunity for one last wurst amd beer. Then into the Netherlands, a low flat country of rolling green fields and waterways. As we approached the capital we had the chance to stop and see how cloggs were made ...

... lasted a few minutes however. Back to the waiting. After another forty five minutes it was looking like we might get in the door within only another half hour. This was true. Much joy!

(Lovers of worded maths problems can now calculate how long we waited)

Once inside it was very... interesting? Perhaps harrowing is a better word. The rooms have all been very well preserved in their original state. Markings on the walls protected ...

... After lunch Bryan and I visited Van Gogh Museum while he was in his onesie, lots of people wondering why he is wearing his pj's! Back at the apartment a few of us were sitting around having a quiet drink and the quote of the day was made! Names will not be revealed but some of you will be able to guess who made the killer statement: Person1 ' don't you think the flowers ...
