Bye Bye Amsterdam... See you soon London

... Major issues with the trains, we were advised to take a bus or taxi to the airport. We didn't want to risk delays with the bus and possibly missing our flight so we opted for a taxi which certainly wasnt our preference at 35 euro... We noticed a backpacker trying to get a taxi so we asked her where she was headed - turned out to be the airport and we agreed ...

Layover in Amsterdam

... Yes."

Andy: "So where else can I get a ticket?"

Teller: "Lanes 1 and 2."

So, I took a step back, looked to lane 1 on my left, verified that, yes, it was still closed, looked forward at the CLOSED sign she had just shoved in my face on lane 2 and said:

"But you're both closed."

At which point she gave me her best DMV-esque "and that's my problem why?" face and walked away!

Luckily, ...

... We went to an Argentinian steakhouse for dinner to say goodbye to Amsterdam with a good meal. Amsterdam was an experience to say the least the contrast between the beautiful parks, shopping district and museums to the red light district is huge. It wasn't our favourite place and one we aren't sure if we will ever return to but something we had to see, we weren't sad to say goodbye to the overpowering smell of weed everywhere though! Next stop was ...

... wet for crops. Much of the country is below sea level and water is continuously pumped out and fed into canals which carry the water, eventually, to the sea. It seems to be a haven for waterbirds; I saw various sorts of ducks, geese and swans, and some birds which may have been snipe, as well as a pied oystercatcher - I believe these latter are migratory, and some fly to Australia to breed.

... Back to room after dinner & safety talk and their are two swans on our bed ( fashioned from towels) with beaks touching forming a heart and ANOTHER bottle of champagne. This time from the captain & crew congratulating us on our anniversary. With a hand written and signed card no less! Now it's time for bed, if the room stops spinning (did I mention the cocktails are free lol ) as we have a full morning of adventure ...

A really nice hotel with easy access to the airport, and a convenient shuttle service. Staff allowed us to check in early. Very quiet and clean hotel.

Comfortable, Convenient, But hope Nothing Goes Wrong

    Large comfortable room
Location is convenient for the airport by complimentary shuttle bus
Reachable from the city by metro and a 15 minute walk
Staff friendly at first, but when the door lock jammed denying entry they blamed the guests. But the technician who opened it said it was a battery failure. It meant waiting an hour late at night for the technician to arrive and then a change of room. No apology was offered and no compensation. The hotel was prepaid, but on check out the next morning, there was some additional tax to pay of Euro 5.11. Having the exact coins of Euro 5.10 to offer was not good enough; they insisted on having Euro 5.11, which meant giving notes and getting a lot more coins in change. For all the disruption of the night before they were not prepared to offer even 1 cent in compensation.
