Tonight I got to participate, for the first time, in the Shavat meal ceremony. Definitely was a very interesting experience, but pretty cool. The family stayed home and had no guests so it was the first time I've actually been able to have a sit down dinner with the family since the day I got here. Oded and I actually got into a rather lengthy ...

Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany cariverga... Catholic, every wall of the house was covered in Madonnas, Jesus and the saints. Sarah's brothers were even better. Their accents were so thick, Jeff and I could understand almost nothing they said. They would start off with a gruff and loud syllable, that often sounded like "Well!" or "Ah!" and then quickly descend in both pitch and volume into something of a mumble. I spent a lot of time laughing and nodding, praying they weren't discussing the death of a beloved ...
Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany jluetkehans... time it was the tallest building in the world.
It was awesome inside with the high vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. It has a golden alter which contains their relics, supposedly some of the bones of the Three Wise Men.
This afternoon was the time to pack as we arrive in Amsterdam tonight. We’re in the first group to leave tomorrow for the airport and have to be ready by 5:45 a.m.
... awed. The church did have a 'sanctified' feeling, and I was asked to remove my hat inside the building.
We took a few tasty and large pretzels and apfel strudels for lunch, once again enjoying the delights of German pastry shops. Unfortunately we did not have the time to visit the German-Roman museum, but we did manage to buy a few things at their gift shop.

Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany cariverga... waving furiously as two grown adults departed on the long and perilous journey to.......Brussels! The journey passed without incident, as per the ticket man's information not many people did want to go to Brussels, they all got of at Lille. But after a couple of hours we were in 'Brussels Midi' Midi as in 'middle of', or so I thought, but in fact this was midi as in 'sort of'. We ...
Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany danandsarah... When we saw Tessa during the day, she seemed even larger than when we saw her at night. She reminded us both of "Marmaduke" and we gathered that she is more than likely a Great Dane. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that she probably weighs close to 150 lbs. and stands about three feet tall. On hind legs, she would be taller than me! Her paws are the size of my hands and I have no doubt that in one pounce, I would be lunch meat! Aside from her enormous size, she has a great ...
Cologne, Germany petrest... the risk. In a way it's kind of ironic because before Steve and I came to Germany, that's pretty much how I approached life as well. I always chose to do things the same way because I always knew what to expect. Fearing change, I never took risks to see if there were more good outcomes than bad. Well, after living in Germany for two months now, I've realized that you can't survive in a foreign country without taking risks or expecting change. Every time I walk out the door ...
