He referred to the Olympic Village and the re-classification of the outer ring road, as a normal city road.

After an interesting talk on the historical growth of Amsterdam, attention turned to the park. The park attracts 5.5m visitors per year and boasts 137km of footpaths. 51m of cycle paths, 50 bridges. 150 indigenous species of trees and over 200 species of birds. A number of which had been stuffed and placed on display in the TCPA venue.<br ...
Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands phil.kirby... were having a very good time, so we joined in the dancing foolishness. Lots of dancing and then some very bad singing by the Dutch American Idol winner (at least that’s what I think one of the locals told us). By 1 pm Luz and I were exhausted, so we wondered back home. Picking up oliebollin # 2 on the way ;-) and then right outside our building experienced incident #2 of someone peeing in the canal (seriously people, what did the canal ...
Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands hachbachI'm officially a Grad student, I spent most of the Sunday BEFORE class sitting in my IKEA chair reading and taking notes. However, during that time I was treated to what will forever be referred to as the "Frat Boat." Not nearly as entertaining as the music boat, or as, um, interesting as Joe Surfboard, but I was really quite impressed with these guys. They had barrels tied together and a platform on top, covered in Astroturf. There was an ...
Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands hachbach... travel very light - we must have looked like crazies. Bottom line is that we somehow made it to our house.

Irina and I met our roommate. His name is Tarj - he is from England and is very nice. The house is super cute and nice. Some things will take a little getting used to though. Some examples are a) the stairs are tiny and steep. I hold the railing every time I ...

Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands jv3117... 20 minutes from our hotel by tram. We started out Amsterdam with a lovely Canal Cruise through the entire city. It took us through the neighborhoods as well as the tourist areas. Canals are very interesting and the boats are so adorable and tiny. They almost look like toy boats sometimes. But the sun was shinning and it was a beautiful morning for a canal cruise. Sarah and I sat next to a foreign couple and the wife ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands abauerly... probably being the Anne Frank house. Although we didn't go in it, it was just cool to be there and see it. Afterward we rode around some more, and then checked out the Van Gough Museum. For anyone who is a Van Gough fan, this is really worthwhile. It is three stories, and houses the largest collection of his works. We spent about an hour and a half here, then headed back to the hostel for the ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands jessicae... The bread wasn't fresh - but had a very crunchy exterior. It tasted like buns my grandma used to re-heat for me - just plain buns from Safeway that she quickly ran under the tap to keep from burning when she popped them into the toaster oven. It tasted just like it! Ahhh ... memories ... I tried some Dutch beer (never got the name of it) - not bad, but not Belgian-quality either. I started the meal with white asparagus ...
Haarlem, Netherlands pwong... millions of us were inspired by visionary hipsters like Sinclair and chose to revolt. Nobody ever walked on the moon until we sent a human there to do it in 1969. Just because we don't all live in space, doesn't mean that the Space Program was foolhardy "idealism." To dig that era is to dig that it was a time WHEN HUMANS FIRST WALKED THE MOON. Everything was possible! **** the rules! DEMAND THE IMPOSSIBLE! But if you desire to walk on the moon, first you gotta get a ...
