The boat is now in Hampton, VA. Much to my relief there is no damage from the boats exit through the ice up in Annapolis. Apparently as the crew approached the last 1/4 mile the ice thickened to 1"+, but at that point they were committed (having already gone more than a mile), being impractical to turn around. I was back at the marina in Annapolis yesterday and the ice was even thicker. We would have ...

Twas the day after Christmas and all through our house, not a creature was stirring, because Casey and I are now officially "Empty Nesters". Weather forecasts were for sunny skies, so we decided rather than sitting around in Northern Virginia, we would start our road trip by heading south to the Sunny, Fun of Virginia Beach!

Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Oceanside - Virginia Beach (21st)

    Fine for the money

    from

Stayed 7/05 for 5 nights. The room was clean, housekeeping came everyday - great view of the ocean. They could air condition the hallways alittle better. Elevator was alittle slow, but if you're willing to be patient - they are fine. Front desk people were polite but not too familar with stuff in the surrounding area. Asked for a drug store and the girl had to ask someone else in the back office. Nice to have the Viginia Pilot newspaper every morning. Asked for a micro and it was delivered to our room with the half hour. Refrig was ok - needed to be defrosted but served our purpose. It was one of the cheaper rates I found for the week we went and it was fine.

    Cockroaches in room!!

    from

My husband and 2 children picked the holiday inn for its well known name...when we arrived the apperance seemed very nice....there was only 2 elevators we were on the 12th floor...beautiful view ... virginia beach is sooooooooo nice.....most of our stay one elevator was out of order.....the hot tub...never did work...never....no bubbles...the staff was very friendly till i went into my bathroom at turned on the light and found a huge..HUGE..COCKROACH!!!......and to think i ate at the buffet ..and that is all they surved all 4th of july weekend was buffet....the rude man behind the desk tried to tell me they were only on the 12!! floor...i guess they dont climb down hill...and they were still checking people into the 12th floor anyways!...they did reduce my room rate....virginia beach is sooooooo fun..gang activity is noticable....but the beach was great

    Nice hotel/Friendly Staff

    from

We stayed at this hotel over the 4th of July weekend. This hotel is right in the middle of the resort area. Beach access is directly outside the door and there is a shower station at the boardwalk and at the entrance to the hotel. The pool is small, but was not too crowded. The fitness center is very small with only treadmills, bikes and a stairmaster. The restaurant only offered buffets for this weekend, so we did not eat there. The room was pretty clean, however the carpet is showing wear. The bathroom was very clean and we had plenty of towels. The staff was very friendly. We left in the morning to go to the beach or another activity and our room was cleaned every time we returned. The housekeeping staff continually asked if we needed anything and when we did, they brought it to us right away. We also did not experience any problems with the elevators and the hotel was full. There are 2 parking lots - one at the hotel and one across the street. The one at the hotel was always crowded and the one across the street is very tight and there are spots where you could get blocked in and they have to take your keys. I think this could be a problem. We would definitely stay here again.

    Over-rated

    from

I was charged twice, customer service did not want to help, the hot tub did not work, the refridgerator leaked, and the air conditioner froze up. All of the other hotels looked nice and the beach was beautiful, but other thatn that I do not recommend this hotel.

    Great Hotel!

    from

This hotel is great and it is in the center of all restaurants, shops and activities. All of the staff was very friendly. The pool is small, but it wasn't too crowded. Our room was a King with a pull-out sofa and it was very spacious. There was also an armoire, coffee table, 2 chairs, a desk with chair and a counter area/kitchenette. There was plenty of room to spread out and put everything. We would definitely stay here again!

    Perfect location

    from

If you want to be in the heart of the action, this is the place to stay. The overall hotel was clean, the staff very friendly, rooms recently renovated. I had requested a smoking room (being a smoker thought this was best), but wish I hadnt. As soon as you get off the elevator, the smell of smoke was very strong in hallways as well as room itself. On the balcony I found a cup filled with smoked cigerettes, the coffee grounds from the prior occupant hadnt been removed from the coffeemaker, plus they ran out of coffee so I didnt have any to make anyway. Food in the latitudes restaurant wasnt very impressive. We had the breakfast buffet and everything tasted like it had been in the warmers forever. Pancakes were hard as rocks, potatoes cold, etc. Elevators are very slow, we had problems where the door wouldnt shut for at least 5 or 6 trys. We normally would have just taken the stairs, but we were on the 11th floor. Did that a couple times going down. These are all minor inconveniences, but dont think I would stay there again.

    Great Place!

    from

We stayed at this hotel during a soccer tournament sponsored by Virginia Beach. The Hotel was recommended by the website and offered a special rate for the tournament my daughter was playing in. I couldn't be more satisfied with my stay, or the weather! You could tell they have done extensive work on this property! Everything in my room looked and smelled new. People in the restaurant were very busy but still attentive and very pleasant. Everything faced the ocean, my room, the restaurant, even the pool...which made it very nice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and I will definitely return.

    Good, but not great....

    from

Of all the beach hotels I visited this summer, I really felt this was the best overall. The price was reasonable and the room I had was very nice... clean, all the decorations were clean and crisp, the balcony was nice, and this is an all oceanfront hotel... the view is to die for!The downsides are, the pool seemed small and perpetually crowded... the elevator was painfully, agonizingly slow. One evening after a night out, I used their convenient door to the beach from the lobby to go take a night walk on the beach. I made sure to take my keycard with me as that door had a keycard reader on it with a sign that explained you'd need a key for entry after dark. But when I got back, my keycard wouldn't work... so I walked over a few steps where there was a security guard chatting with the front desk people. He came over and let me in, but informed me that they keep that door locked... even to hotel guests!!! After dark. And that really he should make me (a single woman) walk around the hotel, through the parking lot (sparsely lit), to come in through the front door. This seemed utterly brilliant to me, and I told him so, and he got incredibly nasty with me. I think they need to work on their customer service and they should keep their keycard protected doors... well... protected by keycards! Of course people want to enjoy the beach while they are there, and walking at night on the beach is a wonderful way to do so. Please don't tell me to walk in "Go Get Mugged Central," and not to use my keycard! What nonsense. It's an unfortunate fact that there are some very bad neighborhoods bordering on VA Beach, and I'd rather not spend my night time there in unlit parking lots. On the beach where there's plenty of people is another issue! But the room was nice! And the beach was *wonderful*, huge, clean, beautiful, and the water is not so salty due to a river emptying out just to the north. Beware of those tempting chairs and umbrellas tho... they cost $20 to use, whether you want to be there for an hour or eight hours! Bring your own which you can buy for less than $20 across the street!

    Dirty, Filthy, and Worn Out!

    from

Don't stay here. My room was filthy. The bathroom countertops still had toothpaste on them. The air conditioning unit had dead bugs and an inch of dust/dirt on it. There was hair in the sink, bathtub, and on the floor. The coffee maker had a hair in the water reservoir. I left the maid a tip in hopes of returning to a clean room. However, it was still dirty and she took the money.

HOLIDAY INN OCEANSIDE - GREAT HOTEL

    from

Seaven ladies from Chicago was at the Holiday Inn Cceanside from June 5th - 9th 2003. The hotel was really nice. The rooms were well kept on a daily basis. The front desk and hotel staff was helpful at all times. The hotel is in a great location for all of the happenings of Virginia Beach. All rooms were ocean front with balconies. The ocean sight was beautiful. The only problem we experienced at the hotel was that the jacuzzi was out of order during our entire stay. We were looking forward to relaxing in the jacuzzi. I recommend this hotel to all visitors and we would definately consider staying at the Holiday Inn Oceanside Hotel while in Viriginia again. Any and everything you want is right there - just a few steps away!! Food in Virginia is great - especially their seafood!!
