10'x15'... the past 5 years, 2 bedrooms and 4 floors of our home is now crammed into a one cinder-block cell, the mail has been stopped (doubt I'll miss it) and tenants who will be kindly paying our mortgage for the next 12months are now moved in and we're officially "homeless".
Bethany Beach is where we'll be calling home for the next few weeks, until we jump out on the road at the end of July.
I could think of worse places to lay-low for awhile.
This morning we left our hotel in Dover, Delaware headed for the coast of Virginia. We stopped in Dover to see the Delaware State Capitol, and other old state buildings before heading out. It was small as State Capitol buildings go, but still pretty cool. It reminded both of us of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. After killing an hour we headed for Virginia. Since we were both just freaking ecstatic to be out of New York this three hour drive was nothing. We got ...

The tour was fabulous though because after that we saw wild ponies, osprey, and the lighthouse. Our tour guide also was awesome. After our boat tour we hit Mister Whippy for ice cream. Donna wanted to hit a few shops to work off the ice cream, and follow that up with a stop for fudge. We hit a couple ...

The next day, we take Woody on a field trip to the Dogfish Head Brewery located in Milton, DE where my brother lives. Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Ocean City
Stayed at this hotel the week of June 6th 2004. Very nice accomidations and nice kiddie pool with water slides to keep the kids busy. The restraunt food was very good, but a little on the pricy side. The only complaint is that the heavy draperied did not close in the bedroom and the sun came barreling in at 6:00 A.M. They did say some of the rooms do close, so you can request this. The rooms were very spacious anc clean, and the whirpool tub was fabulous. The kitchen came with all utensils and everything you needed if you wanted to cook in the room, and also had a dishwasher. The indoor pool is rather small, and would not accomadate many people if it was raining outside. I will definately stay at this hotel again if I return to Ocean City.
UNBELIEVABLE - Great Hotel and Great Service
What a beautiful room - very clean. Had a nice little "family room", large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, nice bedroom (pillows were like sleeping on clouds). The rooms had 2 tv's, 4 phones in the room (including bathroom), nice patio and ours happen to be right beside the heated kiddie pool. We didn't need to go to the beach because our son loved the water slides, fountains, lazy river, etc...
Regular prices are expensive but we got a great deal off the internet and used the "Great Rates" Deal and only paid $143 per night and this was on the weekend!
I won't stay anywhere else in O.C.!
Very Good, but Better Last Year
We discovered the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in April 2003 (last year), and absolutely loved our stay at that time. We were very excited to be coming back in April 2004. However, our stay this time didn't blow my socks off like last time. Don't get me wrong, it's a great hotel with an ideal location, and a superb value for the money, but there were a couple of things that contributed to the slightly lower rating this time around. The first thing was the clientele during the week of our stay. It happened to be the week before Easter and thus schools were celebrating "Spring Week". The hotel was packed to the rafters with families. Kids were running up and down the halls at all hours of the day and night. I never even got to use the beautiful indoor pool because it was constantly over crowded with rowdy kids. Plus, there was some sort of cheerleading convention going on at Convention Hall, so it seemed like the hotel was over run with pom pom girls. Not exactly the quiet, relaxing vacation I was hoping for. The other thing that made our stay a little less than perfect was the cleaning service. We occupied our room for a week, and we received a thorough maid service half the time. One day, our room wasn't cleaned at all and the garbage cans were overflowing. On other days, the bed was made, the trash was disposed of, but the toiletries weren't replenished, and the room wasn't vacuumed or anything. But it was just a minor inconvenience. On a positive note, the ocean front room had an amazing view, the Jacuzzi tub had plenty of use, the extras were appreciated (in room coffee, free newspaper, fresh fruit at the front desk, the over sized balcony with patio furniture, two television sets, VCR, etc.) In summary, this is a conveniently located hotel with spacious, beautifully furnished rooms. I really loved the fact that each room has an apartment sized kitchen and a huge bathroom. I would recommend this hotel to others, and in fact, have done so already. I would stay here again in the future, however, I don't think I would choose to stay here during "Spring Week" again.
Greatest Hotel in Ocean City!
I remember the year i first stayed at a hotel in ocean city (we had a camper for years...). We stayued at the Commander. The commander was very nice, but the rooms seemed small. The next time, we stayed at the Holiday Inn. The first thing that I noticed about this hotel was the amazing service that takes your luggage to your room. Then when we went up to our floor, we saw that there was an amazing view from the hotel.
We walked into our room and were amazed at how tidy and clean it was and we loved the jaccuzi tub and the two sink bathroom, the balcony had a ocean view, i highly reccomend this hotel to anyone.
It was nice but...
I stayed at the oc, suites from Jan 2-3, 2004. I was excited about using the jacuzzi but, I saw hair all around it and lost my desire. The tv in the bedroom did not have a dvd player and it did not work. But, maintenance fixed it right away. The king bed was awful. The ****springs were obviously broken and it squeaked every I moved. I guess a bunch of hippos jumped on it! A hotel charging all of this money should have comfortable and quiet beds. The view of the ocean was awesome of course. The balcony was nice and private. Room service was good and the food was also tasty. I would return to oc suites but, request a maid wash my tub and I would check the bed comfort before, I began my stay.
Top of The Line!(expensive)
This was the best hotel we ever stayed at,newspaper at the door every morning, new clean rooms, huge private balcony, beautiful indoor pool and restaurant.but friday-sunday $350 a night!!! during the summer months,a little too much to spend for us,best time to stay is monday-thursday $250 a night.we would definitely stay there again:)
Went in Mid July, Mom, Dad and the 3 kids. The place is Clean, Convienent, has a great Kids pool and food and drink service by the pool.A little pricey as compared to a two bedroom Condo we usually stay at, but HI as more amenities. We already booked 2004.
Great place to stay in OC!
Nicest hotel I've stayed at in OC, summered there since I was a kid. Great oceanside location, nice amenities and swim up bar in the pool.
Best Suite Ive stayed in at OC
We wanted to make our reservation for next year one day into the trip. This place is new, clean, has a "rain" shower head in the bathroom and we loved that the jacuzzi tub was cleaned every day. The scented bath salts were a nice touch. Another nice touch was the iron Deck furniture with seating for 4. We brought back boardwalk food and enjoyed it on the porch. The game hook up in the bedroom was nice for the kids as well. We have stayd in 5 suite hotels in OC and this was the BEST!
Fantastic Oceanfront Hotel !
We stayed in a Corner King Suite the weekend of April 4th, 2003 and were very happy. Let's just say this is the nicest Holiday Inn I've ever seen. The room was awesome. Stayed on the 12th floor, view was great, could even see the ferris wheel on the pier! There was 3 of us in the room, my husband and I shared the king bedroom, my son slept on the sleeper sofa. The living room is smaller than the bedroom, but it worked well as a seperate bedroom for my son. The sofa folds out into a double size mattress, my son says it was comfortable. The VCR with the TV made for entertaining late nights for him (Shrek & Star Wars). The bathroom has a double vanity, the shower is beautiful large ceramic/slate? glass enclosed area, with three shower heads (LUXURY) plenty of room for two in the shower. The kitchen is nice too, full size oven w/four burner stove, full size refrigerator, full size dishwasher, for some reason the sink is a little on the small size. It has pots and pans, glasses, plates, etc. But some things not there, like a cookie sheet or sharp cutting knives.(only butter knives) The bedroom was perfect! Very large, had lots of room to move around, a couple of chairs, king bed (6 pillows & double sheets), TV Armoir with a DVD player, dresser and a Jacuzzi Tub for two in the corner, bring your candles. They provide sachets of scented bath salts. The balcony off the bedroom the a nice size with four chairs and a table, we had breakfast out there on Sunday morning, plenty of room for 3. Also some other things, you get a newspaper every morning, nice to read the Sunday paper over breakfast on the balcony! The furniture was definately upscale, loved the headboard, walnut 2 poster carved wood. The lounge chair & ottoman in the living room was also very relaxing. The down side of the room would be little things, like in the bathroom, the maid only leaves plastic cups. You would think for what they charge per night, they would give you glasses?! But there are real glasses in the kitchen, if your called to housekeeping for bed linens for the sofa, they were there in under 5 minutes. In fact everytime we needed something from the staff it was done immediately, even though we were told the hotel was full occupancy. I've had bad experiences at hotels at full occupancy, but here you didn't feel over-crowded nor were they under-staffed. The first night there we went to the front desk to ask about an arcade and dinner suggestion, they not only suggested a restaurant, Harrison's Harbor Watch, they gave us a manager's coupon card good for 1/2 off an entree. The restaurant is right at the end of the boardwalk, great views, and the food was pretty good, we saved about $12 dollars with the coupon. And of course there's an arcade a block down the boardwalk. Let's get back to the hotel, the room service only consists of breakfast time and it was okay, I preferred making my own. The indoor pool was heated and pretty nice. Not big, not tiny good for a dip, great for kids to play in. It's in the same atrium room as the bar/cafe. The restaurant is still being built next to the bar, but there are cafe tables to eat at. If you don't mind the kids in the pool, it's really not that noisy, it's just not quiet either. On Friday and Saturday evenings there was a man playing guitar and singing near the bar. Music was Simon/Garfunkel, James Taylor, kind of music. Nice to relax at the bar with a drink, listen to music and watch son swimming in pool. The only thing missing was a hot tub. Off the atruim is a game room, nothing great, but about 8-10 games. The outdoor pool area looked great, but too cold to spend any time hanging around. While flying kites on the beach, I noticed that the sand was clean and the beach was wide, but I bet it's crowded in the summer. Any way, I think I've covered just about everything, it was a great hotel to stay in, we would definately go back.
