Ian has gone out exploring in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Mom is resting beside the pool and catching a few rays. Will not be going on the road until tomorrow......just travel Route 66 and take in some sights along the way. No pictures today.......you really DO NOT want to see me in my bathing suit. ...
... its progressive urban culture. However, out of the proverbial gas, we turned in for the night--ready for another colossal road day on Saturday--this time deep into the (northern) heart of Texas. The chirping of crickets, long a symbol of summer stasis, has taken on a more Hitchcockian vibe here in Tulsa...may we awaken from our sleep unharmed by this biblical pestilence. And may the breakfast bar be plentiful.
... is perfect and there is no waiting . David is our guide and he is so stilted in his delivery of the information that he had to tell us when he told a joke. The tour is a wagon towed by a jeep. No walking involved. We go about half a mile into cave. The caves have enormous caverns in parts and they were used in the past as a speakeasy during prohibition days, meeting place for secret societies, and for concerts. It's nice and cool inside as the temperature outside ...
... it was along to Vinita and Foyil - in between was the Totem Pole Park, the tallest over 90 feet high. It was sorted by a local artist and fiddle maker who mixed the concrete in buckets - no wonder it took him 11 years. we stopped at the end of the road as there was a place advertising lunch - it wasn't open and the mannequin on the verandah was interesting.
Then, before long, we were in Tulsa - it was very hot and ...
... hotel I did not see the large kerb until I was right on the top! I put the car into reverse but it was too late and we went over the edge. OH NO! We could not go forward or backward. It's funny now but not then when you have a beached car! We both got out and tried to lift it and push it back when a nice passerby helped. YES! We soon got going again and booked into a nice hotel.
A great day's driving on route 66 marred only by two school boy errors! LOL
