... Mountain Trail past a couple more overlooks and soon made it to the end of the trail at the intersection with Flat Rock Ridge Trail. This trail would conclude our circuit hike, losing about 2000 vertical feet over the course of 5 miles. From here, we went back into ...

Went to Pilot Mountain State Park today for a hike around the Monadnock from the top of the park. The day was beautiful and clear and here were a lot of Vultures, Ravens and red-Tailed Hawks soaring around the high peak. The most incredible was that we were here one year after a fire burned to the top of the mountain and were able to see the response from the heath plants like Mt. Laurel and Rhododendron as well as the trees like post Oak and Sassafras. There was a lot of very ...

... Knob. At 2,579 feet above sea level, this is the highest point in the park and in the Sauratown Mountain Range. At more than 1000 feet above the surrounding countryside, there were beautiful views in all directions. And to make it even better, there is an old lookout tower on the summit that provides wonderful panoramic views in all directions. Today was a little hazy, so the visibility was not the best. When visibility ...
