Last Stop - Almost time to go home

Geneva, our last stop before we fly back home. Our journey is almost at an end. The final drive down from Strasbourg took about 5 hours, including another drive over the alps. This one wasn't as spectacular as the first drive from Grenoble to Asti, we were driving in rain and fog for most of the time so we didn't get to see much mountain scenery.< …

... were ice caves. We thought we were going to naturally occurring ones, but no, they are actually drilled out each season. Artists sculpt the ice into tables, chairs, polar bears, stuff like that. We lost two people on the tour which the guide was quite upset about. He had mentioned it was a 200 euro taxi fare back from Chamonix to Geneva! But there were initially four people who were initially missing from our leaving point. As we ...

On returning from CERN our theories of our less than appealing aromas had been confirmed. The hotel cleaners had come through and to quell the strong scent of of our room, had gone overboard with the bleach through the bathroom. When we opened ...

Up, up and up into the vineyards on the hill high above the campsite. After a fair bit of climbing, we reached the spot we were at yesterday, where I thought the climbing would end. It didn't. Up, up, and up. Then super steep down. Then super steep up, possibly the steepest ups ...

Good hotel for easy access to the airport. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. WiFi works well (join the IHG Rewards(TM) Club to be given free access to WiFi - it's free to join). There's not much around it for eating out, although the hotel next door has a good restaurant which is open to the public. The staff are efficient and helpful. Breakfast is ok - typically European. Overall a comfortable place to stay.

    Everything We Needed

We wanted a hotel near the airport for convenience and the Holiday in is only about 1 km from the airport. They also offer a free shuttle service that picks you up and if needed drops you off at the airport. We arrived early and although and room wasn't ready thet were happy to keep our bags checked while we explored the city. They also issued us with Public Transport tickets so we could travel free of charge (this is a generally available service with hotels). The room itself was quite spacious and came with coffee and tea facilities although there was no fridge in the room. This may not be common on Europe but is in Australia. The room and bathroom are very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended

    Shoddy Airconditioning

    from

The Express by Holiday Inn Geneva Airport was a typical Holiday Inn hotel. Clean, affordable, free continental breakfast but the only problem was with the airconditioning, which was not cold enough. Other than that, it was good value for the money.

Good for Quick Business or Overnight Before Flight

    from

Stayed at the HI Express Geneva Airport the night before an early flight to Paris, so I was merely looking for a nice bed near the airport.

Good Value in this super expensive country

    from

Who would have thought that you could pay 20 dollar for a regular McDonald's meal, or 30 bucks for a pound of ham at Carre Four (Europe's Wal-Mart).

    Perfect for the last night......

    from

Stayed here on last night of a three-week European trip, October 2004. An ideal conclusion...especially after some very smoky, old worn hotels. Only five-minutes from airport and airport train station, convenient shuttle, spotlessly clean, well-designed, perky overnight rooms, reasonably priced, good soound-proofing, generous buffet breakfast, everything at peak efficiency....and the entire seventh floor is non-smoking. What a concept!

Just perfect for a final night of checking reservations, re-packing, and getting a good night's sleep before the long flight home.

    Modern and comfortable

    from

Did the job, Convenient for both the airport, which has a shuttle bus, and the town. The bus to town goes from the overhead motorway by the Carrefour shopping centre. This shopping centre also has a brilliant self service restaurant (Mandora) which is very cheap by Swiss standards and plenty of choice

    Could do better...

    from

This hotel is OK for a quick overnight before a flight, but you could probably do better. The architecture is uninspiring - it stands like a big stainless-steel brick in the center of a wide expanse of asphalt - and the decor is Euro-Jetson's modern. When I checked in around 5 PM the hotel seemed pretty empty. Nevertheless I was given a room in which there was no pillow on the bed and the toilet didn't flush (no water). You'd think they'd keep track of such things. To their credit, the staff was very courteous and they gave me another room immediately. Problem was, it was on the noisy side of the hotel, facing the main drag that goes by the airport. The soundproofing was so bad, I kept looking to see if my window was open a crack. And I was on the 5th floor, too. Bottom line: try the other Geneva airport hotels before you go for this one, unless the price is especially low, or the others are full.

    Excellent Value

    from

I stayed here at the end of March 2004 and enjoyed my one night stay. A very good location just a short distance (by shuttle) from the terminal at Geneva Airport. The room was clean, modern, comfortable and good value. I stayed in a room with a Queen size bed which also has a small desk and sofa. Check in/out was quick and efficient.

    Fine

    from

Stayed January 04. The hotel is modern and clean. Selection is great for continental breakfast. Take care if your flight arrives late, as the shuttle bus to the hotel stops at 11.30. As the hotel is only a 20 minute walk, taxis often refuse to take you there. This is a problem if like me, you don't know the way and it is snowing heavily! On a very convenient regular bus route that will take you easily to the airport/ palexpro/ nations. Change at nations to go to the city centre (overall about 30 minutes).

    Acceptable for a short stay

    from

The HI Express at the Geneva Airport is rather new, very clean, but appears rather utilitarian. Rooms are small by North American standards but typical for Europe. Hotel has free breakfast with some hot items; free airport shuttle van service. Parking is like everywhere else in Geneva...pay per hour. For being close to the airport, the hotel is quiet though.
