... adjacent to the noisy, busy freeway, secured one night in a serviced pull through, turned on the air conditioners (it was warm), put on the Giants game and relaxed with some fresh caprese from our larder.
Perhaps we would have remained overnight up in the Berkshires had we found an open campsite. The Walmart in North Adams doesn't allow overnights so we moved on.
Long day but colors of fall were out in force. Now we are in Pennsylvania.
... the Berkshires and went for a great hike up monument mountain where we were rewarded with some stunning views before heading to our overnight resting spot at The Red Lion in Stockbridge. This is an amazing 18th century inn which felt so old school for America. It was a charming spot to unwind and the local Great Barrington Brewery make a lovely IPA. ... of its facilities, sharing sofa space with an over-friendly boxer dog! Back into the car and down Interstate 91 - a very pleasant drive for possibly our last "leaf peeping". The colours in this part of New Hampshire and Vermont are much more vivid, the leaves still not quite into falling yet.

... there is a tremendous rush of water that starts to push up against their natural flow. The result is a fairly large wave that rushes up the river and it is often high enough for surfers to ride it. Apparently one Australian surfer purportedly rode the wave for 11 km up the river. Today there were two surfers but one fell fairly quickly and the other went about 1 km. The town has even built a seated viewing area for ...
... splendid sunshine, a quiet Sunday morning with shops mainly open for student and visitor trade. We stopped off in a student coffee house where our age probably trebled the average, but no-one seemed too concerned by our alien presence.
