... settled, we decided to check out the local festival - The Kings Table - now the other name for it is the Kaisertafel. It's a big open street festival with games, activities, rides for children, lots of food options, shopping and a wide variety of beverage offerings. Weather glorious again so took the funicular up to Mercury's Vista. Quite a ride and the view was spectacular. We could see about 15 villages in the valley below from the Mercury Tower. There were also huge samples of the variety of rocks found at Baden Baden, and they dated from 142 million to 750 million years old. ... certainly been good all the way. Just as we approached the border with Germany, a ferry presented itself and we decided to hop on board, thinking we might avoid some of the industry ahead. The Rhine ferries that go from one side to the other are small car ferries, about the size of the Brentwood Bay - Mill Bay ferry. The fare was about 6E for us and the bikes.

So got up this morning in Bern and checked out of the hostel. Headed to the station and got breakfast on the way (I had a Swiss flag shaped jam tart which was exceptional) and then got on a train to Freiburg.
