    Back to Fortaleza

... book our flights from Recife to Rio for next week. We walked to the travel agent up near the supermarket around the corner and got flights for 158reais each. We enquired about bus tickets to Natal but they said they only do flights and to talk to the shopping centre and try there. We walked in the heat for half an hour and got to the shopping centre where the company with a booth there told us there was only one bus a day which left at 1230 and took 10 hours. Not ...

... it ended for the day. Centro Mercardo was average and was mainly nick nack and souvenir type stalls so we left quick and started the walk back. We walked past the Fortaleza cathedral with its palm trees surrounding it (another first to see that) before passing the cultural centre, Drago da Mar, and arrived at the supermarket to grab some lunch. Wasn't a nice beach but the water was beautiful and the sun was hot. 2 hours went by quick before we realised it was in the peak burn hours so we decided to find a shopping centre to kill some time, soak some air con and avoid the sun. We found one a bit back from the beach and had a look around. Nothing there of interest except the supermarket, so we grabbed light lunch and ate it outside in the street. We made our way back to ...

... and as we made our way along our street, we could not see any signs for the hostel. The cab driver doubled back around giving enough time to quickly read the email for booking which said a blue and green building. We finally found it, got out and rang the bell in hope. The door opened and we had the right spot. We went in and checked in and got our complimentary check in caipirinhas. This hostel was a hot box with no ...

Beaches, Thongs, Footy in Brazil. Why so anxious?

... 150 kms up the coast to visit the renowned beaches of Morro Branco, Praia Das Fontes, Canoa Quebrada for a ride along the beaches in Dune Buggies and whatever other nonsense we could conjure up. Now this turned into more fun than just an excuse to expand our carbon footprint. Aside
from the requisite trip through artisan markets that cannot be avoided, the first stop was at Morro Branco and a fascinating set of labyrinths worn ...
