... dancing. I again became acquainted with a Brazilian girl who tried and failed to show me the bum twerking technique. My body is definitely not built for dancing. As Jens kind of promoted the club and persuaded us all to go he received a bottle of vodka and mixers for our table so the evening was very cheap. It definitely wasn't a Swedish party as I think that Jens may have been the only swede and the music was modern pop. We were all drunk however so we didn't particularly ...

... book our flights from Recife to Rio for next week. We walked to the travel agent up near the supermarket around the corner and got flights for 158reais each. We enquired about bus tickets to Natal but they said they only do flights and to talk to the shopping centre and try there. We walked in the heat for half an hour and got to the shopping centre where the company with a booth there told us there was only one bus a day which left at 1230 and took 10 hours. Not ...

... it ended for the day. Centro Mercardo was average and was mainly nick nack and souvenir type stalls so we left quick and started the walk back. We walked past the Fortaleza cathedral with its palm trees surrounding it (another first to see that) before passing the cultural centre, Drago da Mar, and arrived at the supermarket to grab some lunch. We decided to have a picnic on the beach under a palm tree. It was bliss. We spent the rest of the ...

... out to the beach here. Wasn't a nice beach but the water was beautiful and the sun was hot. 2 hours went by quick before we realised it was in the peak burn hours so we decided to find a shopping centre to kill some time, soak some air con and avoid the sun. We found one a bit back from the beach and had a look around. Nothing there of interest except the supermarket, so we grabbed light lunch and ate it outside in the street. We made our way back to ...

... shield the whole schmeer. The Brazilian team
arrived this morning but that is usually met with increased helicopter activity
and motorcycle outriders, not this show of force. By the time we made it across
one busy street they had dissipated like wraiths into a fog. How the hell can
you hide 100 or more riot police in broad daylight in little more than 5 minutes?
Maybe I was hallucinating like Van Gaal’s Oranje brigade but the mystery ...
