Hue Good Lookin' - Whatcha got Cookin' ?

Upon arriving at Hue we were both prepared to not like the place, our only experience in Vietnam cities had so far been with Hanoi, where we either missed the entire point or it just is a bit disagreeable. Our original estimation of Hue didn't differ too far from Hanoi as the taxi driver we got from the airport spent the entirety of our journey telling us how we should spend our time in Hue which strangely seemed to fit in well with his plans of driving us everywhere. At one stage he told me...

The Dong Hoi Beach Crashers

Our time in Ninh Binh has reached its end. Five days of no hassle, relaxation and exploration have made our stay here a definite highlight on this trip. We hoped our next destination, Dong Hoi, would be just as fruitful. Our main motivation for this trip was to break up the journey time between here and Hue, a killer 17 hours by train. At breakfast we settled the bill and asked Mr. Tom (hotel manager), if he could ring ahead to the Hoa Hong hotel and arrange a pick up by taxi. Our optimism so...

A short stay in Hue

... strait away. This time most of the group jioned in. It was the best tour so far! Soooo much fun. Very busy again! We went and saw how they make insence and the typical vietnemese hats. I got some chopsticks- I am mastering the art of it now! We went to such a nice temple on a lake, and then to a pondega ( I think thats how you say it?!) and watched some Monks chant! Was a bit concerned for the little bubba monks but our tour guide reassured ...

Really long and arduous one.

... the trees, and I found a dead snake in a small stream that we stopped at. We stopped to bath in two streams, they were pure heaven in that hot sun. The water was cold and pure, I wanted so bad to drink it, but resisted the urge. It felt good on my legs which were tightening up and sometimes cramping, I wonder what the hike would have been like had we not had the stream to get into along the way. We were told at the front office that no vehicles were allowed into the park, that’s ...

All By Myself (but not at all)

... and yogurt for me as usual!) and then attended the free Vietnamese lesson provided by one of the receptionists at the hostel. It was a great lesson - I learned to say several basic phrases (although I'm having a hard time remembering more than three of them). At lunchtime I headed to a local restaurant with a Britt I met in the lobby of the backpackers hostel named Nick. It is incredibly easy to meet people while traveling alone - everyone is very welcoming and incredibly talkative. Plus ...

On the way to Hue

Off to Hue today. The train trip is meant to be great. Though it's actually Da Nang to Hue. The train track from Hoi An to Da Nang was destroyed and no one has fired it.

So motorbike to Da Nang (100,000). On the way we got a flat tyre. If you never had a flat tyre on a bike, I’ll tell you it’s strange. The bike sudden starts to shake and move side to side. And it feels like it’s going to go over I’m glad we ...

Free beers and early nights

With little or no sleep we arrived into Hué at about 8am this morning. We headed straight for the Hué Backpackers which turned out to be a really cool find. They had dorm rooms with double bed bunk beds so it was only 6$ for the two of us. They also had free beer between 5 and 6. We met up with a few guys at the hostel and shared a taxi to the beach. Wasnt that special at all but at least the warm water was a relief from the even warmer ...
