It turned out that rather than beds, hikers just put down their pads and sleeping gear in their fellowship hall, but aside from that, it was quite nice, with a good shower, a full kitchen and an extensive collection of DVDs.     Finally we got onto I-84E and within 5-miles entered New York, the 9th state of our road trip. Middletown was just 20 minutes inside the New York border and we happily ended our 5-hour day of driving when we pulled into the Hampton Inn at 2:30 p.m.

    On Friday, all we could do is wait for the Fed Ex truck to come, so we didn't want to start any big projects because once it came, we were leaving, so it was kind of a relaxing day which was very weird before such a big trip.     ... and clear and the high reaching deciduous trees "shadow danced" all around us in every peak and valley we passed through. In Pennsylvania the evergreens showed fat fuzzy teddy bear shapes in the sun. They rolled in the gentle wind of the open farm land. This is where the temperature climbed to -6 and water began to show at the edge of the road from the banks. I loved the sound of the spray as the tires hit. A sound of Spring.
