...and wind blowing every which way.
We arrived in Reykjavik before the sun was up, and drove our rental car away from the airport toward sunrise-pink, snow-capped peaks. Our first stop was þingvellir national park, the gorgeous site where Iceland's original parliament was founded. The park boasts a large lake that, apparently ...
... wooden sailboat. I don't know it's significance, but it was a nice boat. Also this statue of a fisherman holding a flounder. Why not cod, I can't say. But I liked the nice expression on the flounders face.
As we continued snooping around this small village, we came across none other than this little turf-covered shed. I love the little hobbit-y window and stove pipe stuck through the roof.
The biggest mystery in this village was the location of ...
We stayed at a lovely little cabin at a camping resort run by Polish immigrants and got up early in order to return the rental vehicle to Reykjavik in time. Then we took a bus to the Blue Lagoon, which is a beautiful aquamarine blue pool fed with excess hot water from a geothermal heating ...

Driving south on the No 1 we have gone over 2000km in the past 8 days. Half the distance from here to Toronto. Half the distance from Toronto the Alberta/BC border. It is a windy day, a cloudy sky. Senica is cursing at the slower driver up ahead. I was reading a bout Hveragerdi - hot spring garden. We may head there today. We are looking forward to ...
We just had our first local lamb and they gave us a super dessert b/c we're on our honeymoon. There were greenhouse grown strawberries in this yummy dessert. The owner of the guesthouse served us and said most of the produce comes from local greenhouses (what an ingenious idea, why doesn't everyone in Canada do that?) We drove past tons of greenhouses today, Senica was so intrigued. They are heated by the country's thermal ...
Well I thought we were pretty lucky to get a map!! However, this map has red roads like veins in your wrist - criss crossed and squiggly in all different directions. As the navigator, I hardly knew where we were going! It took us all day to come 100km from Reykjavik. Granted, we took a wonderfully scenic route. Now, at long last, we are settled into a guesthouse in Fludir and sipping Jokull Bjor (Glaricer Beer). To get where we are now, we had to rent our car, get ...
Fludir, South, Iceland lolly... t say that Kerlingarfjoll was a happy time for me, just an amazing experience.. Ok, so I escaped from Kerlingarfjoll yesterday - wet, cold, feeling a bit rough (potential head cold in the making) and sick of the wind I came all the way through to Hveragerdi which is only just south of Rekjavik. The bus stopped at Geysir and Gullfoss - Gullfoss is a really really beautiful waterfall, Geysir (about 10km from Gullfoss) was somewhat underwhelming for me ...
Hvergerdi, Iceland susan_g... It´s a fabulously beautiful Island - stunning. It took me most of the day to wander around the Island, view the Puffins and check the town out - the last eruption had swamped a portion of the town, so it was interesting to have a look around. Luckily for me the camp site was directly below one of the Puffin breeding grounds, I could watch the little blighter's come and go - they are forever busy. They aren´t the ...
Heimaey Island, Iceland susan_g... we had to wear these ultra poofy flaming orange life jackets as they were overdue for a Titantic-like incident. Her name was Eva and we got to talking. I told her it was partly "the Amazing Race" which had inspired me to come to Iceland, and she went on to talk about movies that had been filmed at the lagoon - namely, 007's Die Another Day and Angelina Jolie's 1st Tombraider. She disgustingly informed me that Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry ...
