Caught the night train from Kolkota to New Jalpaiguri at 10pm. Took 11 hours and cost 295 rupees (about #3.60) Actually manged to get some sleep and it arrived at a sensible time the next morning. Took a shared jeep from the train station up to Darjeeling for 150 rupees and it took 3 hours. ... 8217;s accommodation and we had a gorgeous dinner cooked for us again. Somehow in the hour or so that the guides disappeared they had managed to get drunk beyond comprehension, and while hearing them attempt to outline the plan for tomorrow was great fun, having them demand we watch them singing while we were trying to eat went a bit far! We left them to it, but with the kitchen right beside our room, were still subjected to the singing anyway!

So we finally arrived in Siliguri, met a few french people along the way and we all shared a jeep for the three hour very bumpy ride up to Darjeeling. We noticed a drop in temperature half way through the trip up to Darjeeling, definitely getting colder. The trip up was a little hair raising but beautiful views all at the same time.
