Today was by far the most eventful day of the orientation so far. First, we did an activity on poverty and how to deal with the shock and such. We went to the welcome for the inbound students in the morning. Over 400 students from Saudi Arabia, India, Chana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Kenya, Mozambique, Turkey, Egypt, and Thailand had arrived the night before and this whole grand ballroom was packed full of people. We took the bus to go to the State Department and some of the inbound T...

... today to express it: The comfort kills all sensation and I start to float just beneath the skin unable to feel that fine Goan sweat No honking No cows going to church and No hard bed, pillow full of dried gerbils, Or fireworks during meditation. Very quiet here in the snow Very civilized Very cold. Still able to laugh though and still with Joy to Be. It's only a turn of the attention away.
Herndon, Virginia, United States sneakytrees... and asked: "Which picture were you photographing?" I replied, "Both." "You can't take a picture of that one," and pointed to the left painting in the pair I had just snapped. I was pretty dumbfounded and since I hadn't seen any clear prohibitive signs, I looked her straight in the eye and said, "That is weird." There weren't any highly visible signs in the ...

Rufus, Liz's child, was tired and it was time for his nap. Liz and I were spent. We had too much luggage. We went to the USO and were grateful to store our luggage And we found out that Liz was welcome to put Rufus down for a nap and take one herself if she wanted. I, however, was not. Skipping to the end result, I spent about 5 hours in a wine bar calling ...

Washington, District of Columbia, United States 1778... in the States The town itself was littered with designer shops, posh places to wine and dine and basically show off how good damn rich you were, so you can imagine how well Garvo and I blended in. After avoiding stick thin ladies with their fake boobs and toy dogs we found a fantastic bar and after deliberating for a long time over the menu I settled ...
Washington DC, District of Columbia, United States badgers07... seems that I should have already done these things, but ah well, it will all get done eventually! Anyway, I just wanted to send this thing out so everyone can familiarize him or herself with the site. Hopefully I'll be able to keep the blog updated at least once a week, if not more, with pictures and stories about all of my European debacles - sooooooooooo, enjoy and I'll see you in London...woot woot!
Herndon, Virginia, United States klweiss... outfit. No glad rags! Don't Invite the Guys: Being young and adventurous might make you craving for some attention from a foxy guy you met in the cafe! Okay, you shared a drink together. But never invite him back to your hotel room! Finally, learn to utter some local words before you arrive at your adventure land. The usual greetings is great. But don't forget the "help" words. In situations, you just need to scream on top of your voice, no? Bon Voyage!
New York, United States studenttravel... lots of stairs to and from the subway. Even if it's cold out, I sometimes get hot and sweaty by the time I get on the train. Sometimes I have to walk many blocks to get to the subway stop (though this is rare) and sometimes the train is completely packed where I am squished like a sardine (though this is mainly for half of my ride to work and otherwise not an issue). But all that is outweighed by absolute love of interacting with people. I could be by myself in a vehicle ...
New York City, New York, United States kathendrix... coming to the surface. When we went down, the water was pretty calm. When we came up it was very choppy. This makes it much more difficult to do the mundane things like getting gear off, handing it to Lulu who was in the boat, and breathing. I found out salt water really is salty. But we made it. I must hve been bit flustered as I must have forgotten about 30 things on Lulu's boat. She would take off from the dock and turn around bring back my fins, the my glasses and so ...
