Fantastico Hilton As Cascatas
We would go back....
We are a family of 4 and stayed in a 2 bedroomed apartment within the hotel. For us it had the advantages of a hotel with the convienience of a washing machine. The rooms were a good size and the kitchen area was well equiped. Breakfast was fantastic! I hope this was not just becuase they were trying to impress having just opened.
This was not mirrored at the pool restaurant where the food was poor and service apalling.
The only other gripe was that our room was not serviced until at least mid afternoon, just when you may want to be returning to your room.
As for the surroundings, not sure about the pink exterior colour with the blue, the artists impression looked far better.
Kids club we decided not to use as in the afternoon they seemed to just let the kids watch a DVD for a couple of hours (because it was in the shade) they could still be playing games, arts and crafts under the shade, and I would question that it is the biggest Kids Club in the Algarve (as they advertise) as we normally stay at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs and their Kids Club is enormous!!!
A perfect holiday experience
We have just returned from a 7 day break (family of 3) and we cannot praise the hotel enough. The hotel facilities were all that we wanted and the staff were very helpfull. Being a new hotel we were a bit concerned that there might have been some teething problems but we need not have worried. The setting for the pools in very well laid out gardens with water falls and tropical plants made for relaxing times spent sunbathing and swimming. Although the beach was approx. 2 miles away the hotel had its own transport to and from its own beach club with a bar, w.c's and showers.
We have been to this area before and visited the marina in the evenings for dining etc. We therefore chose to hire a car during our stay to make this an easier option, although the taxis are cheap and the hotel appeared to run transport to the marina in the evenings.
The hotel had 2 restaurants for evening meals but we chose not use them, although the bar had live music at night which we did go to on our return to the hotel at night.
We can recommend this hotel for a visit to the Algarve.
I am a hilton diamond member and have stayed in over 100 hotels this year alone and this is probably the best. In summary
1 - Amazing staff
2 - Delicous food at reasonable prices
3 - Well designed hotel, every luxury and great pools
4 - Most comfortable pool loungers
5 - Great location
The only downside was in August it is busy for taxis and there was no shuttle service, now after a number of people mentioned it they provide one, just one example of how responsive the staff are
Ok but not great
Not sure about the Hilton Vilamoura. Has good points and bad I'll try to be as objective as possible.
- Brand new therefore everywhere is spotlessly clean
- Decent breakfast with large selection
- Pleasant friendly staff
- In nice area of Vilamoura
- Bed was very comfortable and room was very nicely decorated
- Soft towels and robes in room
- Gardens around apartment blocks will be stunning, the apartments and area look much nicer than Hotel.
- Separate shower and bath
- Great Michelin star restaurant at back of Hotel called Willies. Reception staff at Hotel were not very helpful - we didn't know where it was and asked at reception if it was far and did we need a taxi. They booked a taxi which literally drove to the back of the hotel and then asked us for the money with a bemused smile! We walked back and must have taken all of 5mins!
-Complementary bus to Beach every 15mins during day.
-Very good Kids club and play area but this costs extra each day.
-Internet access in rooms but again costs £40 per week.
- Had to wait two hours to be given a room, we arrived at 11.30am but I had emailed the Hotel previously and on arrival we were told the Hotel had an occupancy 0f 60%. First room we were given overlooked bins and main road (which quite a few do!). We refused this and were given a room that had a lovely view of the pool.
-Bedroom and bathroom not very big. Wardrobe very small with only 8 hangers.
-Balcony very small
-Pool side bar food very poor selection, and not great quality (I choose just to have fruit after first day)
-Service beside pool you can expect to wait at least 1/2 hour for your drink order.
-At least 1/2 walk to marina though taxi's are cheap each night we had to wait over 1/2 hour for them to arrive.
-Beware of being invited to attend information meeting re the apartments / Hilton Grand vacations Club. We did not attend but others who did and were told it would take 90mins were there for over 4 hours! While we were there they were encouraging people from other Hotels to attend these meetings and have a tour around the Hotel and apartments. After they could bring swim gear and stay by the pool. There really was quite a few people drifting about looking around with Hotel staff.
We had an ok stay but there wasn't anything about the Hotel that would encourage us to stay in it again given the rate that we paid.

Travel Blogs from Vilamoura
Found another great beach to spend some time. We have. Had some technical difficulties so haven't been blogging much. Just golfing and enjoying the sunshine. This really is an amazing place if you love the beach. The food is good in all the restaurants too. Some times the menu is a bit too English for my taste but lots of Local Portuguese fare as well. The wine, beer and port is ...
... both tasted fantastic.
Helen is tanning beautifully while I just get red. Having the diesel motor with the car is very economical. The car just purrs along nicely.
Tomorrow it's off to Spain where we not sure whether we'll stop off at Seville or try and get well on the way to Madrid where it would be good to have couple of days before heading back to Portugal. It's over 500k Seville to Madrid and 570k from there to Coimbra in Portugal.
... was more than $250.00!
It was time for our lunch in the forest, featuring the typical foods of the Alentejo (highlands) region. The guides knew a secluded spot along a creek, that was just perfect. Rob and Margarida prepared an absolute feast for us, featuring local cured meats, cheeses, and bread as well as a cake. They even grilled a local sausage for us right at the table, ...
... town of Estoi, where we discovered some wonderful mosaic floors in and around a villa, as well as a Portuguese farm house built over the ruins of the Roman villa. Those Romans got around, didn't they?
Lunch was in the only café in the town square of a nearby village. We were enjoying our meal when several hundred motorcycles came roaring into the square, obviously on a Sunday road rally of some sort. The riders and the vehicles ...
We like guided tours better than bumping around on our own, hoping to find the most interesting things to see, which we rarely do. So before leaving home, I'd searched the internet for tour guides in the Algarve region. Well, there aren't many because most visitors go there for the beaches and the resorts. But luckily I stumbled across a couple who conducted private tours in the eastern Algarve, precisely where we were staying. We ...
