Hilton Vienna Danube Hotel

We ventured to Munich and Vienna using our frequent flyer miles and hotel points. This was a wonderful trip! We used Hilton Hotels in both cities. I can't say enough about the Hilton Danube River in Vienna! Only a category 1 and it was the best hotel I have stayed in in awhile! Roomy for european standards. It came with queen beds where all other hotels have two twins or one king in Europe. Our view was incredible!

In Munich, we saw the typical touristy places. Don't miss the Glockenspiel ring at 11, noon or 5pm! We were there during Oktoberfest...amazing! Go during the day on a weekday if you want a seat and a beer right away! We took a tour of Dachau concentration camp with Radius Tours (Munich Walks). Our tour guide spoke english as a primary language and was very knowledgable on the subject. Would highly recommend. We also toured out to King Ludwig's castles. Schloss Neuschwanstein is an incredible sight! Whether you walk or ride the bus, Marien Brucke is a must see! Incredible view! The tour guide was great as well..english was his primary language, but watch out for "hidden admittance" fees in addition to your tour price with some companies! Can't wait to go back again!

We stayed at the Hilton, Vienna Danube for 3 nights in early October using HHonors points... The hotel is a tremendous bargain (if it's free) but would be a real disappointment if you had to pay for it... It's clean and fairly well maintained but out of the way and inconvenient. The only breakfast that's offered is a 20 Euro buffet. Nice view of the Danube (the real one), but too far from the Vienna action.

Despite the mixed reviews in Tripadvisor we decided to book the Hilton Vienna Danube because there was plenty of parking and easy motorway access. We are also regular Hilton customers and have seldom been let down.

The hotel has much to commend it. The rooms must be the largest in Vienna and have opening windows to give that breath of fresh air in the morning. They definitely passed our sleep test - pitch black at night, very quiet and really comfortable beds, why can't all hotel rooms be like this. The restaurant was very bright and pleasant and in fine weather the terrace beside the river is also used. The meals are mainly buffet style and pretty acceptable; the Italian buffet on Wednesday night is a must. We had to send our compliments to the chef, as it was the best Italian spread we had ever had. It will be long time before we taste Lasagne that good again.

For us the hotel was a good choice although problems at check out left a bit of a bad taste. However the reception staff was perfectly charming and friendly and the matter was eventually resolved.

There is an 8 seater shuttle bus which leaves the hotel every hour and takes you to the Hilton in the centre of Vienna (15 mins). If you want to use this service make sure you book in plenty of time, both there and especially back as the walk from the subway to the hotel is a good 30 minutes, but there are plenty of taxis in Vienna and they don't seem under too much pressure.

The location is probably the Hotel's only downside it overlooks the river but forget any thoughts of the 'Blue Danube' - it is a long time since this river has been blue. On the other side there is a railway line, which seems to handle mainly freight and also a main road so insist on a river view, this is a must. The hotel also seems to be a bit light on staffing, particularly in the restaurant but that apart we really had a pretty pleasant stay and it was good value for money.

I stayed here for 2 nights through using HHonors points. This hotel is a Category 1 and represents and exceptional value in the entire Hilton chain.

I arrived by train at Westbanhoff and took the taxi to the hotel. The fare came to under 20 EUR. The hotel itself is quite large and situated on the banks of the Danube. As a HHonors Gold member, I got an upgraded room (facing the Danube) and free buffet breakfast.

The lobby was decorated nicely and the check-in was both courteous and prompt. Unlike the previous poster, I found the service to be excellent and they offered to help me on any question that I had. I received a room on the top floor of the hotel (8th floor). The room itself was huge for European standards. There is a mini-fridge you can use to stick drinks into. However, the furnishings look a little dated and the bathroom really did show its age. One gripe is that the air conditioning is very weak and you can't really feel it cool down your room until a couple of hours later, even at the maximum settings.

There is a shuttle that takes you to the other Hilton Vienna, opposite the Wien Mitte station. I happened to walk into that one and the difference is huge. Although I didn't see the rooms, the lobby is absolutely beautiful and the air conditioning feels like a fridge. I sure wished I had booked that one instead, but too bad it's not even close to being a Category 1. To book the shuttle, some people have reported you can only sign up 1 hour in advance. When I got there, I was allowed to sign 24 hours in advance. A tip is to book the next morning's shuttle the day before. I had absolutely no problems getting the shuttle times I wanted. Once you arrive at the other Hilton, you should immediately book your return time back. The other alternative is to take Tram #21, which will take you to Schwedenplatz.

The buffet breakfast was very good with an extremely large choice of food. There were the usual American style food, but also plenty of breads, cheeses, sliced meats, fruits, and vegetables. One thing they don't advertise is that you can "order" eggs from the servers. I got an omelette and it was quite delicious. The views of the Danube were just beautiful and they have an outdoor patio for dining.

For internet access, they have WiFi in the rooms. Problem is, my laptop doesn't have WiFi. You can purchase internet access to use on dummy terminals but I had work to do. I mentioned my dilemna to front desk and they gave me free access to terminals inside their meeting areas. Good show!

All in all, I would stay here again but only if it was free via the HHonors points. The distance from town and the inconvenience of the shuttle just doesn't make it worthwhile if I'm paying.

The Hilton Vienna Danube is a great hotel on the Danube. It is extremely popular in the summer and it is quite a ways from the City Center. I went over Christmas and got a great winter rate, but it still costs 2 Euros each way every time you want to take the tram to get to the City Center where everything is. That fare can add up depending how often and how long you stay in Vienna. You can buy the 1-3 day pass as well. The hotel shuttle was not that convenient and left on a set schedule with a maximum capacity. I would suspect this property thrives in the spring and summer when it is nice to be on the Danube. In winter, there is nothing to do there. It is next to the Marina which is dead. The hotel is in renovation since Hilton took over the property about a year ago. The rooms still need to be updated. It does boast a fantastic breakfast (hot and cold) with the room so you can save money with an inclusive meal that is beyond continental at this hotel. It is not really set up, though, for business travellers like the Hilton Vienna in the City Center, but can be a great value if you don't mind the distance.

I stayed at the Hilton Vienna Danube in May 2004. Even though it is 15 minutes from the city center it is worth it. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the other Hilton in Vienna but I never rode it. Instead I took the tram which was only a block away. The hotel was in a residential area which gave me a feel for the day-to-day life of the Viennese. It was a mix of young people and retirees. There is a nice grocery only a block away as well where I would buy my lunch. It is also a cheap place to buy those famous Mozart chocolate balls, much cheaper than in the tourist areas. Back to the hotel--the rooms are very spacious, the bathroom too. The service was excellent. You can arrange sightseeing tours with the front desk.

Classic Hilton, even in suburban Vienna! My husband and I stayed here for 3 days as part of a Globus tour and were ecstatic when we found that everyone on the tour was given a room facing the Danube! And this room was the largest of all the hotels in the tour - truly huge, with a huge bathroom too!! Lovely toiletries and decor, clean, very American! Good food in the restaurant but bad service, unfortunately. The hotel is situation outside of downtown Vienna. The train/trolley into town is about 2 blocks from the hotel, a nice ride through the neighborhoods and past the Pradar amusement part and the famous ferris wheel, and into town. Or, the hote runs a shuttle bus into town to the other Hilton, which is centrally located and appeared modern and nice too. Very walkable city. Lovely stores and restaurants - try the Sacher Hotel for dinner and the famous Sacher torte!! Schnitzel everywhere is good and pastries are amazing. Avoid all the American restaurant chain places. European fast food far surpasses anything we have!!!

We flew to Vienna to start a cruise on the Danube River. We asked for a room overlooking the river and that was great! We could hear the water and watch the barges floating down the river. There is a walking path along the river and a plaza area at the hotel. Very nice. Our room was very comfortable and the included a very good breakfast buffet. There is also a free shuttle to the downtown Hilton. We were able then to walk to a great place for Wiener Schnitzel. There is also a grocery store one block from the Hilton Danube.

This Hilton would be a great option for those who don't to pay for (or don't have enough Hilton points for) the other Hilton on the ring in Vienna. The Hotel is fine and fairly standard for a Hilton, but the real problem is the so-called free shuttle. They hype the free shuttle to the city center so that tourists have a way into civilization but the problem is that it only holds 8 people and users are required to battle for a ticket an hour before the shuttle leaves--the result of this whole thing is that visitors must plan their entire vacation around the shuttle and even then are not guaranteed a spot. On several occasions I had to pay for a cab (generally 10-12 Euro from the city center, a 15 minute ride) into or out of the city. They should either expand the shuttle service or describe it truthfully--as it stands one cannot rely on it.

This is a beautiful deluxe hotel on the Danube River...and also on the northeastern rim of Vienna and near absolutely nothing. The free shuttle into the city center provided by the hotel is infrequent and very crowded. I would recommend you stay here only if you have rented a car.
