Phoenix, Arizona, United States charliet... which is a severe understatement. The cavern was larger than 14 football fields, filled with stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and all sorts of other formations. It was simply incredible. We spent almost the entire time down there with our mouths open in awe. We spent about 2 hours in the Caverns, where it is a constant 53 degrees - it felt wonderful, but it was nice to come back out into the sunlight. We grabbed some lunch ...
Junction, Texas, United States zoeh... side, but we never see one. Then I notice that Superstition Blvd is now University. From a previous visit to Mesa, I know that University is like 20 blocks north of Superstition Highway. So, we head south. All the gas stations are still on the other side of the road. Maybe there is a law in Mesa that gas stations can only be on the north or east sides of roads? I figure maybe we'll see a gas station from the highway and can pull off and fill up. It's 2:50 when we reach the ...
Junction, Texas, United States clauderobert47... our first accident of the trip - a car has plunged over a steep embackment at 'Bumblebee Road". Thanks to the traffic control of the truckers behind us, cars are spaced a little further apart for the remainder of the trip. At 8:30 pm we reach our destination - 4229 kms since departure. We are tired by happy to see Scott once more. We have driven 897 kms today, the longest of the trip - too long for me! Now to settle in an get on with some of our planned activities.
Phoenix, Arizona, United States momadunc... historical things to explore in town, as well, but we didn't have time to check all that out. It's just time to get on the road again. By the way, it was while I was taking pictures here that I realized that I hadn't taken a single picture in Houston, and only pictures of our room in Vegas. So, sorry for the last couple of boring looking blogs!
Junction, Texas, United States dn3a... 2-0 in the brand new University of Phoenix stadium. Great game, great stadium, and...yes, great crowd. While we were outnumbered 4-1 by fans of Mexico they were great fans. It was the largest crowd to ever watch a soccer match in Arizona with over 62,000. Phoenix also had the warmest temperatures we've had so far, the low 80's. From Phoenix we headed up to Las Vegas to visit family and to see just what that city is all about.
Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Jerome, Prescott, Phoenix, Arizona, United States dunnfam5... of a detour, I got to see the historical district of Round Rock. That night they were having a Jerry Garcia birthday celebration at Threadgill's with Flounders Without Eyes and other acts playing. I really wanted to attend, but I was just too drained to go. We had dinner at a little Thai joint near the UT Campus. Everything was delicious, the portions were large and the prices were low. It was my kind of place. The next morning we went to Hippie Church at Loca Maria's ...
Hutto, Texas, United States trialsrider... in Houston, on the recommendation of our friend and recent Houston transplant Peter Goldmacher. This section of Houston reminds us of Washington DC, with fountains, parks, museums and universities. We took the girls to the children's museum in Houston, which was well done and much larger and more impressive than the Discovery Museum in the Bay Area. The museum, however, was geared to an older audience and so the onslaught of elementary school field trips was too much ...
