Just returned from two night stay. No problems with check-in. Rooms were excellent. Beautiful kitchen and bathroom. Flat screen wall mounted TVs. My kids loved the pool, especially the slides. Face painting for kids every night from 4pm to 6pm. This is one of the newest and best properties in Ocean City. Plenty of parking available. Staff were friendly and accommodating. No complaints and we will return.
Absolutely gorgeous! The hotel is new and beautiful. There were a few quirks, some plugs didn't work in the room, the poolside food menu left something to be desired, but overall, our stay was nice. My husband and I were there for a 'kid-free' weekend. It was quite, the views are completely unobtructed, and the furniture and decorations were top notch. The parking needs to be dealt with, though. Lot's of people parking in the hotel lot that weren't staying there despite parking registration. All and all, fantastic.
Great Potential - Hope for quick service improvements
Previous visits to OC were day trips only because I was not thrilled with the selection of hotels in the area. So once I found out the Hilton was opening, I decided to give it a try and stay 3 nights June 2006. Paid over $300 per night so expectations were high for this category of hotel (was not expecting Ritz Carlton).
The good: beautiful hotel; rooms are spacious...very nice colors; comfortable bed & quality linens; full kitchen a big plus; bathroom designed with double sinks, jacuzzi tubs and Crabtree & Evelyn amenities I adore; large balcony with table and 4 chairs; wonderful ocean front views and long walks on the beach; nice staff; lots of restaurants nearby. Overall stay was an enjoyable & relaxing weekend.
Needs improvement quickly - all related to Service: room not ready by 3pm - they rushed to have it ready by around 4pm, but the room was not clean which delayed us further; food in the restaurant was good, but getting it was very very slow - it took almost an hour to be served breakfast 2 mornings and there was no more than 6 other persons in the restaurant; maid service was significantly lacking...the maid told us she was trained to only make the bed and change the towels (did not change linen unless asked; there was no wipe down of bathroom counters, no tub/shower cleaning and one day the trash was not removed).
I rate this hotel 4 stars given the other hotel options in OC - my sincere hope is that the improvements are given priority quickly. I made reservations to return for a week in August (rate is $450 per night....similar rate I pay at the Ritz Carlton in Miami this time of year), but will continue to read reviews on this website to help assess progress.
Very glad this Hilton expands hotel choices in OC and Iook forward to returning many times if the service and experience consistantly settles at a quality level. There is great potential and a few basic changes will make this a top destination in OC...it's a new hotel and I'm willing to give them a little time to get it right.
Hilton has more than new hotel blues
I was completely disappointed with this facility. It was so bad that employees were complaining to me about the lack of organization! Coffee was spilled in an elevator that I entered and the maintenance man was very vocal that he couldn't keep up with the cleaning. The bellman was complaining that too many people were checking out so no luggage carts were available. Is that what you pay almost $375 a night for?
The lack of security is glaring. My express checkout with my name, address, HiltonHonors number and credit card information was left in the hall on the day of checkout!
The parking garage is packed with local derelicts despite permits being issued at checkin.
The overflow parking is dangerous, especially with children, due to the traffic and thugs strolling the sidewalk from the local liquor store on the corner.
This was my 1st trip to Ocean City MD. It is NOT a family oriented resort and the Hilton does not come close to being classified as a resort.
The rooms are not ready on time and do not deliver on the promised amentities such as a working phone! Light bulbs, radio, alarm clock, linens were all missing. Further, the shower leaked all over. Is that what you expect from a facility not even opened one month?
The pools are great, but overrun by visitors from other, cheaper hotels and no towels are available. If you want to use the beach be prepared. There are no chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc. for rental or from the hotel. It is difficult to even get out to the beach with the steps from the pool area to the beach area.
Don't think of eating here either, unless you have plenty of time and cash. We spent over $50 for 3 people at breakfast and it took almost 1 hour to be served. The only thing we ordered were the french toast and scrambled eggs. The server did not come back for coffee refills, etc. and many of the items on the menu were already sold out. My breakfast was to come with fruit. The waitress delivered the plate and THEN told me that there was no fruit available. After an hour wait, why even bother to complain? This was at 9:30 in the morning with only 3 other parties in the restaurant!
Save your money and avoid this facility. Ocean City is not a friendly resort area to start with. It is definitely not worth $350+ per night. If you really want to go to OC, Maryland you better wait at least a year until the hotel can be properly managed.
What a terrible experience
My wife, my 2 children (2 and 13) and i stayed at The Hilton in OC for memorial Day weekend. We arrived around 1pm and were told our room couldn't be garanteed before 3pm; we ended up getting a room around 6pm. Needless to say that with a 2 year old this wasn't easy; all the front desk offered us was 2 complimentary cocktails, which didn't do much for our son.
we proceeded to have dinner whilst waiting for our room. the restaurant was beautifully decorated but took ages and ages to serve us! we asked for some fries for the baby and got those after more than half an hour. food overall was good, if a little too spicy for kids. as an FYI we had breakfast there again the next morning and again service was beyond slow, there was no children menu, the staff's english was so bad that they diddn't understand half of what we were asking for and once again the food was way too spicy for children.
as far as the amenities are concerned, the gym has 2 treadmills, a couple of bikes and one weight machine, not exactly what you'd expect in a hotel that can probably accomodate more than 1500 people! the pools outside were nice but the kids area which looks huge on the website is actually tiny in reality, very disappointing; this area was heated the first day (friday) but very cold on saturday, sunday and monday.
The rooms are indeed the only true attraction of this hotel - very big rooms with living area, full kitchen, great bathrooms and large bedroom with beautiful view. however cleaning service was very bad with trash cans not emptied, maid forgetting her rubber gloves on a bed one day and the bathtub not cleaned once in the 3 days we were there! Gross!
Front desk personnel was nor pleasant nor unpleasant, certainly didn't see a smile once! when we checked in we were actually called from the line to the counter by an agent who pointed a finger at us and made a come here motion! i understand they were swamped that day but a minimum of customer service and courtesy would have been much appreciated. we also found that the staff was very quick at pointing out what they couldn't do but not as fast in fixing issues. we were without internet for the whole stay which made it impossible for my wife and i to do any kind of work. we didn't get movies on demand until 2 days into our trip (really bad for the kids!). the first night we waited for 2 hours for room service (we had ordered a glass of milk and a glass of apple juice!).
Overall, apart from the rooms that are really outstanding, the service, restaurants, amenities etc...are way below par and way way below what we expected having read the information about the hotel online on their website.
we will most definitely not recommend this property.
Beware of promises
The hotel is brand new so it is clean and well appointed. Granite kitchen and bathroom counters, flat screen TV's and an exceptionally comfortable bed. When I booked I asked if I could be guaranteed the first floor as I was traveling with a 4 year old and did not want to worry about a balcony. They promised that this request would be met and it wasn't. When we checked in they said they only had floors 7 and up open. They also guaranteed a crib at booking for my five month old. When housekeeping brought it up it was a play pen with a paper thin matress. Really not suitable for a comfortable sleep for a week.
Ocean City is very honky tonk and I would caution discerning travellers to go elsewhere with their families.
Few minor quirks, but overall wonderful experience
My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel Memorial Day weekend. It was something I had planned for a month. The hotel and the events to take place this weekend were to be a surprise to her.
We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 am on Friday with the hopes of checking in early. Unfortunately there were no rooms available. This was no big deal, especially since check in wasn't until after 3:00. We decided to run a few errands, have lunch, etc. When we returned after three, there were still no rooms available. This irked us a little, but we understood it a big Holiday weekend and also a new hotel. The Front Desk Manager assured us the rooms would be available soon and offered us complimentary drinks at the hotel bar. Needless to say, we took advantage of the offer.
A couple hours and no calls from the front desk had me worried. The front desk manager once again offered a few complimentary drinks and also offered to comp one of our nights at the hotel. This was a generous offer considering we (meaning I) paid $275 a night. Well, long story shortened, our room wasn't available until after 6:00 pm. The only other issues we had were a non-functioning vending machine, limited seating at the pool and a maintenance person who walked into our room without knocking. Luckily my girlfriend had just gotten dressed!
Enough with the complaining! The hotel was immaculate. Very grand and posh by OC standards. The rooms, with a living area, a stocked kitchen, king sized bed, garden tub, two flat screen tvs and a balcony overlooking the pools and ocean were exquisite! The decor was great. I have been going to OC every year for the last nine or ten years and stayed at numerous hotels and condos, but overall the Hilton was in the top 2 or 3. The amenities and the staff truly made the hotel a nice place to stay. The bartenders were gracious enough to put a bottle of Dom P on ice when I told them we had just been engaged and the front desk staff worked well and levelheaded considering what they were experiencing on a tough weekend.
Although I had a few complaints early, my fiancee and I had a wonderful experience and look forward to returning.
We just returned from spending Memorial Day weekend at the Hilton Suites. The property is beautiful! The rooms are large and very comfortable. They include all the amenities, even a blender for those cool beach drinks. The wait staff at the pool was very friendly, and efficient. They remembered what we were drinking and were always around to offer refills. The only problem we had was with housekeeping. On our second day the room wasn't cleaned until after 5:00. The third day it was never cleaned. We called the front desk when we got in at about ten and they offered to have it cleaned then but we had been out since about 8:30 in the morning and we were too tired at that point. We paid around $300 a night, so I think getting the room cleaned isn't much to ask. As I said, other than that, everything was top rate.
Exceeded high expectations
As frequent travelers to the Ocean City area over the past 8 years we have become accustomed to renting condominiums and houses. However, after our recent stay at the Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront we might never do so again due in large part to the quality of this hotel.
This visit marked our fifth visit to Hilton owned properties. Those being:
1. Embassy Suites Hotel Philadelphia Airport
2. Pittsburgh Hilton
3. Hampton Inn Pittsburgh Universtiy Center
4. Hilton Suites Phoenix
While all of those were good we would have to say that this one was the most impressive when you factor in the price, amenities, service, and attentiveness of the staff. As of today the hotel has been open for approximately one week. As such, the staff were quite busy making sure that everythig was in order for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. We secured a rate of $119 per night on the Hilton website which we first thought was a misprint. The suites are comprised of a spacious living room with a flat screen TV, a bathroom with Jacuzzi, a kitchen with a diswasher and pantry stocked with bowls and utensils, along with large bedroom containing a flatscreen TV and balcony with ocean view. In all of our travels we could safely say that a room of this type could have easily commanded $300-500 per night.
The hotel itself has a new fitness center complete with "Life Fitness" machines, an indoor pool, two restaurants of good quality, and a hotel bar with a nice ambiance. The two outdoor pools are huge with one being a "chidren's pool" that is really nice. You can walk down a flight of steps from the pool area and you are right on the beach.
On a personal note, we were traveling with our one year old son on this vacation and he became very sick with a stomach virus and had to be taken to the hospital. The Hilton staff took strides that were extraordinary to say the least. They consistently restocked us with extra towels and always took time to ask us how are son was feeling in a very caring manner. They provided us with detailed directions to the hospital and called "911" from the front desk. With all of this chaos we were forced to stay beyond our checkout period. A Hilton staffer named "Warren" made sure that our key cards were reconfigured so that we could have access to our room. Furthermore, Hilton never charged us another day in spite of our very late checkout. My wife and I both agreed that this went far beyond the call of duty. Other hotel chains would have been indifferent to our plight as we were nothing short of being a constant headache to these people with our multitude of requests during a very hectic time for all of them.
We will be contacting the corporate headquarters to notify Hilton executives of the professionalism and kindness these people displayed over our three-day stay in hopes that they will be given merit raises. This simply wasn't a case of them, "just doing their job". As a future reader of this posting, please do your best to tip these people well as they are good at what they do. As a consistent reader of Tripadvisor reviews there is a tendency for guests to accentuate the negative. My wife and I would strongly encourage other critics to highlight the positive when applicable.
We are profondly grateful to everyone that helped us and made our difficult stay a comfortable one in light of our circumstances. Thank you Hilton!
