Traveling On A Wing & A Prayer

Today was basically a travel day. We woke up and realized that our flight didn't leave until 1:30, so we had to find a way to kill yet more time in Cairns. Doug opted to do some laundry (always a good idea) and I set out to cuddle a koala. Both missions were accomplished. The koala I met was named "Pelita" and she was born in June of '05. According to her bio, her "distinguishing features" are her big eyes and her "characteristics" are that she is curious, independant and restless.

The Great Ocean Road Trip

Today we left Melbourne and went to tour what is billed as one of the world's most picturesque drives, "The Great Ocean Road". This is a road tour that is somewhat reminiscent of the Seventeen Mile Drive down the Pacific Coast Hwy. between Monterey and Carmel. The hilight of the trip is at the end when you arrive at the "Twelve Apostles", which are the huge limestone sea stacks. There are only 9 of them now however, as the sea has claimed a few of them over time.

A life with cooking

... and make a pizza or two. The first one didn't turn out so well. But I was paying close attention to the results every time, trying different techniques, adjusting, improving. In just a few weeks I could consistently produce a pair of pizzas that I was more than happy with. I loved the sort of Zen-like aspect of the whole process. Measure the ingredients, mix, knead the dough, roll it out, add the toppings, cook, cut, eat. Repeating and observing and learning, and getting ...

... into town to hook up with an old colleague from Shell. We met and decided that china town was the best place to head for some top food. The Ant Bistro down a side street from Little Bourke St (9 Corrs Place to be exact) served the purpose. Pungent Beef and an Eggplant dish with bamboo shoots, garlic, chili and mushrooms with a little boiled rice. By this stage of the day I was glad it was just Jasmine Tea!
Not bad for Day 1.

June 17: Day 52 I love Australia!

... in Melbourne. She answered the question telling me it was very isolated and expanded on it by telling me about the history of Melbourne, the GDP, the amount of India students that travel to Australia for school and how much money it made for Australia.   This is what I love about certain countries.

Arriving to our Italian Restaurant, the waiter was funny.  As we told him we were waiting for two others, he said, “not a problem, I am a waiter.  It ...

... first thing we did was sleep. Then after breakfast at some stupid jetlag time, we had a wander into the little town of Belgrave where we had fish and chips, and bought chocolate brownie mix and custard to make pudding for later! In the evening, we met the rest of the family, Husband Mic, son Dave and the 2 dogs teddles, large, and Sash enourmous!

Harder times

Hello all. Well... the last few days have been trying to say the least. On Tuesday, Victoria was due to have gale force winds and high temperatures with a total fire ban. So at Geelong caravan park we were all told to batten down the hatches and take refuge in the office if it got too bad. However, I was out all day, so I could really only pin my tent down as best I could and hope for the best. However, when I woke up on Tuesday, just to prove He has a sense of humour, God also arranged ...

... worth of petrol which we hoped would do us. Unfortunately the Toyota Yaris we rented was a little picky on what petrol it would take as it only accepted Ethanol E10 and nearly none of the stations had it on their pumps. We realised towards the afternoon that we probably needed another five dollars and started to search for a station on the way to Torquay and in Torquay. No such luck none of the stations had it and we were starting to worry but we had no choice ...

... outside, to be greeted with 11oC air temp that felt like England on one of those rare clear Spring mornings. 11oC isn't a temperature we have experienced for over seven months now and was very refreshing, esp as we knew that it would soar to over 30oC in the next few hours. Taking our bags and wandering off into a very quiet city we headed for our bus stop, a twenty min shuttle into the main bus stop in Melbourne. From here we headed to find the bus stop ...

Still Alive!

Ok Ok, So as a blogger - I suck. Yes I did just stop my last blog entry half way through because the volunteer on the computer next to me finally caved to my Australian charm and agreed to go to the "Pub" (Americans think the word Pub is hilarious by the way, although it didn't get quite the laughs I got when I told one of my American travel buddies that I couldn't find my thongs, and that I though I have left them on the chair ...
