So, onto the Australian leg of the trip. This was originally going to be a two week section that would continue the hiking and biking with a trip down to Tassie to do the Overland track and another organised bike run. That was until I saw the prices of everything and the parlous state of the GBP in relation to the AUD which made it even more …
We slept in a little this morning and then went to the Diamond lounge for Brekkie. It was actually quite good. The weather was good so we decided to go walk around the city for a while. The Hilton we are in is next to a park. We walked along the edge of the park down to the shopping and business district. We strolled along peeking in the shops but …
We got up pretty early this morning and drove back to the airport. The drive went smoothly and we had plenty of time before our flight. We had an altercation with the rental car company trying to charge us $400 for a two inch scratch that was on the car before we checked it out. We argued for a while but finally said we disagree and the charge is …
I have always heard great things about the city of Melbourne in Southern Australia. It has a reputation of offering all of the cultural, shopping, educational and business opportunities of a big city but at the same time, retaining a historic and charming identity. It did not disappoint on any level.
It took the better part of a day to …
The Great Ocean Road was something we've read and heard about from many people. It's listed as one of the best drives in the world, and something that you have to do. So we spent today on the Great Ocean Road.
Driving the whole road would take a 5-7 days, so we just did a segment. But I would like to go back and do the whole thing one day …

The hotel has an excellent location if you want to be near the Australian Open (Rod Laver Tennis Stadium). It is located across from the area where the Australian Open is held. The hotel does need some renovation (carpets) and the internet in the rooms can be upgraded to be more business friendly. We found the internet process difficult because you were required to get paper chits from the front desk with passwords for each computer\smart phone to access their internet system. It was clumsy to sign in to access the internet service and the speed was slow most of the time. The hotel staff was nice and friendly and helpful when asked. It is located on the Tram line (No 75) which can take you to the central area of Melbourne within 15 minutes including to the Crown Casino with its variety of restaurants. You have to purchase a Myki card for $6.00 from the 7-11 up the street from the Hilton to use the Trams.
