Random Day

A travel blog entry by lozzi89

So today after getting over the nerves after being let down by my m8, I decided to head into the city. The Big Apple, The Concrete Jungle. All alone. I caught the shuttle to P4,then the air train to New Jersey, then from here I went to penn station. I got lost at New Jersey so asked a guy for directions he too was lost. We begun talking and caught …

After a somewhat stressful morning of packing that took me almost three hours, I did finally manage to get everything into one, yes one, suitcase. Well, if you don't count the backpack and the briefcase.

I was excited to see how TSA Precheck would work at TLH and...drum roll... it didn't. Wouldn't let me do it even if I showed them my …

Longest Saturday Ever!

A travel blog entry by fiftybytwo

Saturday 7 was interminable - 3 hours at Tullamarine Airport, 13.5 hours to LAX, 5 hours at LAX, 5.5 hours to JFK, 4.5 hours to get to the hotel!

The flights were fine. Sat with two other single nervy types on the long flight. Was good, we chatted them left each other alone pretty much. There were babies on both flights but you wouldn't …

The title of this chapter says it all. As the captain of the two story airplane announced that we were due to land in New York City in just 20 minutes, I felt this was the appropriate time to get the best aerial view of the west part of the state. The views from the window seat I was lucky enough to be issued with saw miles and miles of a thin …

Departing from Copenhagen and Arriving at Newark

A travel blog entry by wolters

Today I had to begin my trip around the world, being abroad, away from family and friends for a good 10 months, scary. First stop was Newark airport. Mom, dad and Jonathan followed me to the airport, where I said goodbye and took off. Now I was truly on my own. The flight was just around 8 hours, but time flew by, as I solved sudoku after sudoku. …

The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly. I stayed here with a large group for a class trip, about 35 people on two floors of the hotel for the May long weekend. A bus is needed to get to Manhattan and it is around 40 minutes to get to the city of New York by vehicle.

    Do not expect any service

    from

We stayed here at this hotel on Jan 22nd 2005, on which 18 inches of snow covered the entire east coast. My family was traveling back from oversees at Newark Airport and I was driving from Philadelphia to pick them up. Knowing the bad weather condition, I decided to book the room at Hilton and stay overnight before returning back to Philly on following day.

    Good choice

    from

The entire experience was positive. Stayed at the hotel at both ends of an international trip. Shuttle service was timely and efficient. Front desk staff knowledgeable and courteous. Rooms immaculate with extremely comfortable beds, lots of pillows and superior linens. Very little corridor noise and little airport noise. The parking garage was handy and not excessively expensive. Only negative would be that the food offerings of the in-house restaurants are not up to the par of the hotel itself. Will return!

    Good Hotel

    from

Stayed here on Thr, 7 Oct. Arrived around 11PM and got checked in quickly. Priceline price for staying here was $75 (included taxes). Hotel lobby and my standard room were not as bad as some other reviews made them seem. Shuttle to and from airport runs every 20 min.

YUCK!!! Don't even think about staying here!

    from

YUCK!! I stayed at this hotel in December 2003. In planning another overnight stay at Newark Airport before a vacation, I remembered how bad this hotel was.

    Great base hotel

    from

We have use this Hilton 3 times as a base hotel for visiting New York City or greeting relatives arriving at Newark international. No problems with the rooms as they were clean and everything was in order. Good enough for us for needing a place to stay overnight. Definitely better than those motels around Elizabeth. Avoid those at all cost! Good shuttle service to the airport and Penn Station. Easy access too if you want to drive into NYC. The only problem we encountered was it took 3 calls and almost 2 hours for them to bring up a hair dryer.

    Nothing special

    from

I went to this hotel with a group of 24 teenagers and 2 adults for 3 nights. The hotel itself and the rooms were ok. The problem is the staff exepted the security guy. The first night, one of my friend forgot her key in her room and because she couldn't speak English, I went downstairs at the front desk with her to ask for new keycards. I explained to the woman that my friend forgot her key in her room, instead of giving her a new card, she told us that we were not responsible and she didn't want to give her a new key because she would lose it again. I had to negociate with her about half an hour before she finally decided to give my friend a key for her room. After 7 hours of bus between Montreal and Newark, let me tell you that this is not really what I was waiting for from a Hilton hotel staff.

    No problems

    from

Stayed at hotel prior to catching an early morning flight. Found the hotel to be nice and clean. Windows protected sound from airport across freeway. Shuttle to airport was no problem - 5 minutes. Hotel restaurant seemed a bit overpriced, ordered Chinese for delivery and had a great dinner. Got a great deal on room through priceline.

    Terrible!!!

    from

All I can say is DO NOT STAY HERE!! Thumbs down Hilton. I expected much better! Initially while planning my trip, I did as much research as possible. A huge part of the enjoyment of any trip for me is the condition/aesthetics of the hotel room. The web sites pictured a beautifully updated room, but what I got was a room that looked like it had not been renovated since 1970. The carpet was dirty, the curtains were stained, the fabric headboard was dirty, even the wallpaper was dirty. There was a ring in the tub from the previous occupant and a half used bottle of hotel issued shampoo in the bathroom. I immediately rushed downstairs to inquire about a room change. The hotel staff refused. I asked about the rooms featured on the website, and why my room was not in the pristine condition of the ones featured. I was informed that only "certain" rooms had been renovated and none of the ones renovated were deluxe/standard, even though the website specifically states that "ALL rooms have been renovated"!!!! Also, I was unable to change rooms because they insisited that the hotel was at full occupancy due to some convention, even though the convention was not scheduled to begin until the next morning. I WAS SEVERELY DISSAPOINTED AND WILL NEVER STAY AT ANOTHER HILTON AGAIN DUE TO THIS EXPERIENCE. From now on, its only the Sheraton or the Westin for me.

    Hilton Newark Airport Disappoints

    from

From the looks in the lobby you could tell that this hotel was older. I had a nearly brand new room. My friend however had a very old and beat up room. If you want a new room you have to ask for a deluxe room. The pool was nice. Parking was ok. I personally wouldn't recommend.

Cheap, but it needs a dose of service and a huge update

    from

I booked two rooms here on a business trip. I would not recommend it.

The hotel charges for work in the business center, even though my company enjoys an "elite" status in the chain's loyalty program. The decor is very old; for example the drapes in the room were stained and torn. The temperature in both rooms was very hot, and neither thermostat seemed to work. Room service took well over an hour and two calls. Although this is not expensive for a Hilton, there are other hotels at Newark that are far better for the money.
