A nice hotel and not that expensive
This review is the subjective opinion of a TravelPod member and not of TravelPod.com.
The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly. I stayed here with a large group for a class trip, about 35 people on two floors of the hotel for the May long weekend. A bus is needed to get to Manhattan and it is around 40 minutes to get to the city of New York by vehicle.

Do not expect any service
We stayed here at this hotel on Jan 22nd 2005, on which 18 inches of snow covered the entire east coast. My family was traveling back from oversees at Newark Airport and I was driving from Philadelphia to pick them up. Knowing the bad weather condition, I decided to book the room at Hilton and stay overnight before returning back to Philly on following day.
Well, while driving to hotel from airport and just two blocks before the hotel, my car got stuck in the snow!!! Right in the middle of Rt 1&9 and with my three year old son, I decided to abandoned the car and walk two blocks to hotel for some help. We walked two blocks in sub freezing and snowing condition to the hotel.
Upon check-in, they told me that reservation had booked me for one king size bad when infect I had booked two double beds. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, front desk staff, specially the lady on duty on the night of 23rd was very rude and unprofessional. I asked front desk to help me call the towing company for car which was stuck in snow just outside the hotel. Front desk staff pretty much ignored me and did not help out at all. I was not really expecting much help in terms of getting my car out but I did expect some sympathy specially in a blizzard like conditions in one of the worst winter storm to hit east coast in long time.
I left my wife and kids in the hotel and went back to car and fortunately found a tow truck to help me pull out the car. Well, my experience did not end there. After out in cold for almost two hours trying to get my car, out, I called for food at the restaurant and the wait time given was for 45 minutes. Well, 90 minutes passed and no food!!! I called back the restaurant and they said that there was a mixup in order and therefore my food was delivered to someone else. Another 30 minutes passed and my food arrived at 11:45 in the morning. To add to misery, we called housekeeping in morning for toothpaste which was never delivered.
By this time we were so tired that we ate little and went to sleep. I have been Hilton gold member for several years and I typically have good experience with the hotel chain. This was one exception. They really need to work on improving service quality at this hotel.
The entire experience was positive. Stayed at the hotel at both ends of an international trip. Shuttle service was timely and efficient. Front desk staff knowledgeable and courteous. Rooms immaculate with extremely comfortable beds, lots of pillows and superior linens. Very little corridor noise and little airport noise. The parking garage was handy and not excessively expensive. Only negative would be that the food offerings of the in-house restaurants are not up to the par of the hotel itself. Will return!
Stayed here on Thr, 7 Oct. Arrived around 11PM and got checked in quickly. Priceline price for staying here was $75 (included taxes). Hotel lobby and my standard room were not as bad as some other reviews made them seem. Shuttle to and from airport runs every 20 min.
YUCK!!! Don't even think about staying here!
YUCK!! I stayed at this hotel in December 2003. In planning another overnight stay at Newark Airport before a vacation, I remembered how bad this hotel was.
I checked in around 9 pm and had an early morning flight out.
The lobby is nice, but kind of weathered and worn. It was not impressive. Got to the room and was looking forward to some good sleep. I arrived and it was a basic room with a terrible bathroom. Cigarette burns on the toilette and counter. Very cheaply done with wallpaper peeling away from the wall.
The bed was hard and very very uncomfortable. The pillows were like pancakes and the blankes were old and worn.
Room was lousy, basically.
That was the worst night's sleep I have ever had. the neighbor's phone ringing all night. I heard him talking all night. Cell phones ringing and banging and talking and doors opening and closing. It was insanity. Also the air conditioner was soooo loud. I couldn't get any sleep. Staff did not care either. They never answered their phone for me either.
I would never wish this hotel on anyone.
Couldn't wait to get out of this hotel in the morning. Please do not stay here. Save yourself!
I think I will stay at the Marriott or Sheraton this time.
Great base hotel
We have use this Hilton 3 times as a base hotel for visiting New York City or greeting relatives arriving at Newark international. No problems with the rooms as they were clean and everything was in order. Good enough for us for needing a place to stay overnight. Definitely better than those motels around Elizabeth. Avoid those at all cost! Good shuttle service to the airport and Penn Station. Easy access too if you want to drive into NYC. The only problem we encountered was it took 3 calls and almost 2 hours for them to bring up a hair dryer.
I went to this hotel with a group of 24 teenagers and 2 adults for 3 nights. The hotel itself and the rooms were ok. The problem is the staff exepted the security guy. The first night, one of my friend forgot her key in her room and because she couldn't speak English, I went downstairs at the front desk with her to ask for new keycards. I explained to the woman that my friend forgot her key in her room, instead of giving her a new card, she told us that we were not responsible and she didn't want to give her a new key because she would lose it again. I had to negociate with her about half an hour before she finally decided to give my friend a key for her room. After 7 hours of bus between Montreal and Newark, let me tell you that this is not really what I was waiting for from a Hilton hotel staff.
Stayed at hotel prior to catching an early morning flight. Found the hotel to be nice and clean. Windows protected sound from airport across freeway. Shuttle to airport was no problem - 5 minutes. Hotel restaurant seemed a bit overpriced, ordered Chinese for delivery and had a great dinner. Got a great deal on room through priceline.
All I can say is DO NOT STAY HERE!! Thumbs down Hilton. I expected much better! Initially while planning my trip, I did as much research as possible. A huge part of the enjoyment of any trip for me is the condition/aesthetics of the hotel room. The web sites pictured a beautifully updated room, but what I got was a room that looked like it had not been renovated since 1970. The carpet was dirty, the curtains were stained, the fabric headboard was dirty, even the wallpaper was dirty. There was a ring in the tub from the previous occupant and a half used bottle of hotel issued shampoo in the bathroom. I immediately rushed downstairs to inquire about a room change. The hotel staff refused. I asked about the rooms featured on the website, and why my room was not in the pristine condition of the ones featured. I was informed that only "certain" rooms had been renovated and none of the ones renovated were deluxe/standard, even though the website specifically states that "ALL rooms have been renovated"!!!! Also, I was unable to change rooms because they insisited that the hotel was at full occupancy due to some convention, even though the convention was not scheduled to begin until the next morning. I WAS SEVERELY DISSAPOINTED AND WILL NEVER STAY AT ANOTHER HILTON AGAIN DUE TO THIS EXPERIENCE. From now on, its only the Sheraton or the Westin for me.

From the looks in the lobby you could tell that this hotel was older. I had a nearly brand new room. My friend however had a very old and beat up room. If you want a new room you have to ask for a deluxe room. The pool was nice. Parking was ok. I personally wouldn't recommend.
Cheap, but it needs a dose of service and a huge update
I booked two rooms here on a business trip. I would not recommend it.
The hotel charges for work in the business center, even though my company enjoys an "elite" status in the chain's loyalty program. The decor is very old; for example the drapes in the room were stained and torn. The temperature in both rooms was very hot, and neither thermostat seemed to work. Room service took well over an hour and two calls. Although this is not expensive for a Hilton, there are other hotels at Newark that are far better for the money.
