Day 1 - Really, Atlanta? Really?

Welcome to our travel blog! We are so excited to have this opportunity to visit Germany! Thank you RMS :) So for those of you on Facebook, please don't mention anything about us being out of the country. There are crazy people out there folks.

So Tom arrived in Amsterdam earlier this week and a day late. The culprit? A nasty combination of rain and the Atlanta airport. Never a good one. From Amsterdam, he traveled to Frankfurt and then here to Munich. I am sitting in the hotel while he...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hilton Munich Park

Perfectly nice

from Pir8guy
We stayed at another centrally located hotel for 4 nights during Oktoberfest. The only way to secure a much better airfare was to add one more day to our trip. So, on the last day (very tired) we moved to the Hilton Park. Although the location leaves a little to be desired, this is a very nice hotel. It is obviously geared toward business. However, the rooms were large and attractive and so were the bathrooms. It was very clean. Lunch was expensive (watch out for the $5 large Coke!). Breakfast was fantastic and came with our room...full buffet. Lastly, although the location is less than stellar for the tourist, I believe a cab ride to central Munich was around 10-12 euro, so it's not too bad. And don't forget that you can walk out the front door and be in the English Garden (Park). Lastly, there is a privately owned Chinese restaurant in the basement. It is absolutely out of this world. Great Chinese food and not outrageously expensive. Keep it in mind (there aren't a lot of other places in walking distance!).

Look at the view!

Being retired we look for comfortable hotels with plenty of facilities. In Munich the Hilton Park hotel fits that bill, in addition to which the staff is very friendly. The view and the breakfast rate 100 out of 100! Try and get a room as high up as is available with a view to the West.

It is not the most central of hotels, but having stayed at other hotels in the centre of Munich, the proximity of the English Garden and the (very) low noise level more than make up for the tram or bus ride into town.

Awful location, nice hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was very nice but is definitely leaning towards the business traveler. It's not a romantic place for couples! The breakfast was good but very expensive for what it was and the staff had told us the breakfast was included in our room rate, but when we checked out, it wasn't. The location is VERY difficult to get to, especially if you are driving yourself, but also if you take public transportation. We would not stay here again just because of the awful location.

Pretty location, nice inside, avoid rooms nearby lift

from Zurich
I find the hotel beautifully located in a quiet side street served by public transport. Unfortunately you always have to change when going to the train station or one of the underground or s-bahn stops. There was some view from the 5th floor. The bad experience was that I could easily heare people from the hallway, especially as my room was next to the lifts. I asked for an alternative and found that my problem was resolved to my satisfaction at last, but the solution took its time and the behaviour of the receptionist was not very active towards me. (In all other cases they were very courteous and helpful.) Finally I had a room twice as big and just quiet. Nevertheless I liked the hotel. Breakfast was great, spacious restaurant.

You get what you expect

We stayed at the Hilton during Oktoberfest. Like alot of Hiltons, you wouldn't really know what country you were staying in once you were inside. Most of the people staying seemed to be business orientated and not the usual holiday traveller. The rooms were clean and we had a balcony overlooking the stream - pretty average view and nothing to write home about. Breakfast had a good choice and I was very impressed at what was on offer. My biggest complaint about the hotel though was the location, to the point that I wouldn't stay here again as it is not easily accessible. There is a bus stop outside the hotel but not after 8pm at night when it takes a different route. After this time it is about a 5 minute walk to the hotel in what I thought was a relatively safe area. As it was away from alot of the general traffic, it misses out on there not being bars and restaurants at hand - none that we found anyway. So if eating and drinking in the evening is what you are after then this hotel is not ideally located. But you get what you expect when staying at a Hilton and if you want somewhere predictable to stay without local character, then this is it.

Great Hotel

We stayed at the hotel for four nights during Oktoberfest. Great location, helpful staff. I would certainly stay at this property again.

I stayed at Hilton Munich Park for two weekday nights in September 2004 and recommend it. First class all the way. Caters to (and is priced for) business crowd. Sizable rooms, nice balconies, thick walls and doors, no city/traffic noise, impeccably clean, friendly helpful staff. Get

room with view to east over brook, or else enjoy stream-side beer garden. Adjacent to the beautiful English Garden, historical Chinese Tower (with

not so historical but very refreshing beer garden), and popular Leopold Strasse restaurant district (on far side of English Garden).

Complaints all very minor: noisy fridge (easy to unplug), perpetually gurgling toilet and no hot water in the shower the final morning of my

stay (certainly fixed at the time of your visit), not walking distance from tourist center downtown, overly expensive in-room wireless Internet

access, expensive mediocre restaurant (go to Leopold Strasse to eat instead), no irons in room (house keeping can bring one up) and no alarm

clock (which is not uncommon for European hotels).

Also, this can be important - there is no easy public transportation route to this property, whether from the airport or elsewhere in the city. You'll either need to transfer from train to bus (not great if you're lugging luggage) or take a cab (not great if you're not ready to spend the cash.)

Friendly staff

Excellent service - lovely location....it's a standard Hilton ... typically hilton styled..but really excellent service by some brilliant, friendly staff!

Typical Hilton, but great service!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have stayed here many times and always enjoyed my stay. The rooms are typical of a Hilton, and don't expect too much from the view, but it is convenient to take the subway anywhere you need to go. It is also by the park, so you can enjoy nice walks. The service was very good. Much better than most hotels in the city. This is very good for business travelers who want a good place to stay and service that allows you to "just relax" after working all day.

Hotel is very nice set in the English Garden. It's a bit of a walk to restaurants and shops. There are better hotels in Munich that are centrally located.
