... belongings finally arrive. He and Tannis have a nice relationship and I'm sure they will enjoy being in each others lives more often - most of the time. I'm so proud of Todd - he has a nice apartment in downtown San Diego, a job he loves and keeps getting promoted at, a new vehicle, a boat and, most important, lots of good friends to spend time with.
Tomorrow I drive to Valencia to be with Son #2 and I am looking forward to that visit also.

San Diego and a brief moment South of the Border

... all that touristy - besides the several poor donkeys they had painted to resemble Zebras and they showed us pictures of all the girls posing with them, needless to say we were not interested AT ALL!

We managed to break away from all of that - and lose our map in the process, but we ended up at a really cool Mexican local restaurant. The servers were all so friendly even though they barely understood us and it took A LOT of explaining for them to figure ...

Post By Miranda Ewing

Well, all of the nice weather we've been experiencing had to come to an end sometime. Apparently, all of the rain has been saving itself up for this weekend. We knew it advance it would be a rainy weekend so we went to the zoos earlier in the week. Unfortunately, that meant that Jason wasn't able to join us. Luckily, there are some pretty cool things to do in San Diego that are indoors. ...

Road Trippin Beers

... plates all over the wall. Recommended by the hostel and the Lonely Planet it doesn't disappoint. I settle for a cheeseburger basket and a beer. The beer arrives in a jam-jar with a handle. Nice touch.

The beer doesn't quiet fit in ... the burger and chips filled the space, so I hand it over to Paul, who is more than happy to finish it for me.

We wander on back ... but on the walk back up the hill we discover ...

Great deal at the Del Mar Hilton

    from anonymous

I got a great rate on Priceline for this hotel, and then read terrible reviews online afterwards, so I was very nervous about our stay, especially since we were travelling with our 8 month old. But I couldn't have been happier with the service we received. We encountered no snobbery, and our special requests (refrigerator, 2 beds, non-smoking) were met with no problems. The room was clean, the food was good, and there was no noise from adjacent rooms. Beautiful grounds, and great pool. I highly recommend this hotel! (It never hurts to be good about tipping, especially your housekeeper.)

    Very nice!

    from aztnt13

We recently stayed at the Del Mar Hilton for our anniversary/Valentine's Day. While the property does look a bit outdated, the rooms look like they have been renovated recently.

Extremely clean and very large, especially the bath. We had a standard king room, and the bathroom was probably twice the size than what we usually encounter. I am real stickler for cleanliness, and this room was extremely clean. The furnishings were nice although not unique or memorable, but we didn't expect them to be. If you come during racing season, this is the place to stay -- literally a stone's throw from the track. We did encounter noisy neighbors, but the staff apparently were on top of it, because it soon subsided, after we called down to the front desk to complain. Everyone was pleasant. We did not eat at the restaurant or have room service while we were there, since I wanted to try all the local restaurants instead. I have heard good things about the restaurant on the property, though.

    We will return !

Enjoyed this hotel very much. The front desk was friendly and helpfull for dinner suggestions. They have very clean and updated rooms. I noticed the bedspreeds were newer. The pool was clean ,as well as the spa. They also have a lounge in the lobby for those evening cocktails or a cold beer by the pool. We liked the short trip to the Del Mar Plaza for a sunset dinner and evening strolls through shops.

Quiet and peaceful-- loved the layout of the grounds

I have stayed there many times on business and drive a little farther to be there because I enjoy the grounds so much.

    Hilton Del Mar Excellent Location

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Hilton Del Mar over the 4th of July weekend. Newly remodeled rooms are clean and have extra large bathroom. Conveniently located across from the Del Mar Racetrack. Bellman drove us to and from the racetrack in Hilton van. Free parking, nice bar and pool/patio area. Would definitely recommend.

    Gorgeous

gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! The location, the hotel, even the employees....gorgeous!!!

    Beautiful

    from anonymous

Very beautiful hotel and grounds, with a nice pool. Rooms were good size and comfortable. This hotel could use a few more services like a continental breakfast, free paper, and a fridge in the rooms. Overall it was ok place to stay, but friendlier service would be nice.
