Great deal at the Del Mar Hilton
I got a great rate on Priceline for this hotel, and then read terrible reviews online afterwards, so I was very nervous about our stay, especially since we were travelling with our 8 month old. But I couldn't have been happier with the service we received. We encountered no snobbery, and our special requests (refrigerator, 2 beds, non-smoking) were met with no problems. The room was clean, the food was good, and there was no noise from adjacent rooms. Beautiful grounds, and great pool. I highly recommend this hotel! (It never hurts to be good about tipping, especially your housekeeper.)
We recently stayed at the Del Mar Hilton for our anniversary/Valentine's Day. While the property does look a bit outdated, the rooms look like they have been renovated recently.
Extremely clean and very large, especially the bath. We had a standard king room, and the bathroom was probably twice the size than what we usually encounter. I am real stickler for cleanliness, and this room was extremely clean. The furnishings were nice although not unique or memorable, but we didn't expect them to be. If you come during racing season, this is the place to stay -- literally a stone's throw from the track. We did encounter noisy neighbors, but the staff apparently were on top of it, because it soon subsided, after we called down to the front desk to complain. Everyone was pleasant. We did not eat at the restaurant or have room service while we were there, since I wanted to try all the local restaurants instead. I have heard good things about the restaurant on the property, though.
We will return !
Enjoyed this hotel very much. The front desk was friendly and helpfull for dinner suggestions. They have very clean and updated rooms. I noticed the bedspreeds were newer. The pool was clean ,as well as the spa. They also have a lounge in the lobby for those evening cocktails or a cold beer by the pool. We liked the short trip to the Del Mar Plaza for a sunset dinner and evening strolls through shops.
Quiet and peaceful-- loved the layout of the grounds
I have stayed there many times on business and drive a little farther to be there because I enjoy the grounds so much.
Hilton Del Mar Excellent Location
We stayed at the Hilton Del Mar over the 4th of July weekend. Newly remodeled rooms are clean and have extra large bathroom. Conveniently located across from the Del Mar Racetrack. Bellman drove us to and from the racetrack in Hilton van. Free parking, nice bar and pool/patio area. Would definitely recommend.
gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! The location, the hotel, even the employees....gorgeous!!!
Very beautiful hotel and grounds, with a nice pool. Rooms were good size and comfortable. This hotel could use a few more services like a continental breakfast, free paper, and a fridge in the rooms. Overall it was ok place to stay, but friendlier service would be nice.
We stay at the Hilton when in San Diego for the calamari at the Padre Pub alone! Location is nice and centralized for complete San Diego experience and hotel is clean and lovely, and staff helpful. Good appointments for the price.
We stay in Del Mar often. This was the first time at the Hilton. Excelent rooms, staff, and service
Great experence here...friendly staff, clean oversized rooms, excellent location ,concierge serviece was fantastic. Can't say enough positive things!!!

... another one of our stops on the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives itinerary. Lunch was great, and we had the full diner experience...complete with the waitress decorating Emily's hair.
We headed up the coast to check out the areas of Mission Beach, Fiesta Island Park, Pacific Beach and then upto La Jolla. We got out and spent some time in La Jolla just walking the shore path and checking out the scenery. ...
... The next day was spent in San Diego Zoo, which was just as big as we had been told. We tried to get to the pandas as early as possible so that we could avoid queues, as that is one of the biggest tourist attractions. We still had to queue for ten or fifteen minutes and we had to pose for an awkward photo. Whilst there we also got the opportunity to ride the cable car over the zoo to take more in. Unfortunately in the afternoon my shoulders started to burn, ...
... there all day and never be board.
Start to plan a few things to do over the next few days and the first trip is to San Diego zoo, which is lovely. Much more like a park than an actual zoo. We arrive about 11.00 and decide to take the bus tour to find our way around the park. After the bus trip we take the gondola over the park, as the weather is not looking too promising with high winds forecast for the afternoon. Now it is time to explore ...
... X, the blog doesn't show near that as it calculates the as-the-crow-flys mileage. Which still does not sound right, have you watched crows fly, they land on every tall tree. The blog has had over 2,000 views. That means my six friends are really staying up late. I have posted 400 pictures on 44 entries. Yes, I know I stole some of the pictures.
The bad news: As we head into Mexico the 3G gets turned off. That means we don't go dark, but a little ...

There were some amazing views of the ocean and the San Diego area, and walking along the beach in the sun I managed to get some pretty good short and t-shirt tan lines. The massage and facial was such a treat and we came out feeling completely relaxed...we felt like we were "on vacation" instead of backpacking!
