Historical Traveler Reviews Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel
Only one downpoint, Overall was very good.
My family of three stayed here a few weeks ago. I will begin with the only poor aspect. That was at check-in. We arrived about 8 or 9 o'clock. There were three ladies working the front desk, but only two customers being waited on. When the thrid employee finally moved over to her computer, she made no effort to acknowledge me. Two men came up and stepped in front of me. She helped them. Finally, I stepped forward. No "good evening, how can I help you" or any other polite greeting. Just a flat "Yes." She never smiled, never said said anything more than she absolutely had to. She did not even say "thank you" or "hope you enjoy your stay," not a thing.
Needless to say, things were much better from here on out. Our bell hop was great! Friendly, curteous, helpful. Star quality. When we ordered room service, the lady who brought it up was wonderful--polite, friendly. The room was nice and clean. Breakfast downstairs in the onsite restaurant was nice. Checkout was quick and friendly.
We will probably have the opportunity to use this hotel again and I am sure we will. I hope the bad apple will be gone by the time we go back.
Bad will never book here again
we book in to this hotel for 2 night the first night the aircon made a rattling noise all night did not sleep one bit then the next day the maid was rude hurring us out of the room so she could clean and the last night was a night that i will never for get the guest next door had a room party untill 5 am we call the front deck to stop them 3 times but the noise continued tso that was 2 night with no sleep and we had a 2 hour drive home i could not keep my eyes open and had a car crash i dont think this is the type of hotel for people that want to go rest this is for people that party all night not my type
It was awesome!
I stayed at the Hilton 4/13 - 4/15/2004. When I arrived I was surprised that I was upgraded to an executive suite, which I didn't request! The room faced the St. John River, had a balcony and was beautiful and clean. The room also faced the freeway, but I never had any problems with noise. I even left my balcony door open most of the time. The Ruth Chris is awesome! There is a water taxi that comes to the Hilton that will take you from the Hilton to the River Landing. The Hotel is also in walking distance to the Chart House and River City Brewing Company. I can't wait to go back next year and I will absolutely stay at the Hilton!
Another example of Hilton inconsistency
I wonder why the only two favorable reviews of this hotel were submitted by someone who lives in Jacksonville. Why would he/she stay at the hotel? Perhaps an employee of the hotel trying to boost the ratings? Anyway more to the point, this hotel is an example of one oh the many Hiltons that have not had any updating in years. In my opinion Hilton is the most inconsistent chain. This represents the low end of what Hilton has to offer. It is full service, but if you don't have an interest in room service or the lounge, you'd be better off in a newer lower priced chain.
Clean but dated
The other reviewer is right, the room we had was 80s-looking but to me clean is more important. After reading the other reviews of the Omni and Adams Mark I chose the Hilton because it seemed the least offensive of the hotels in the area.
The only disappointment happened at arrival. When my husband and I pulled up to the self-park entrance on a Sat. at 3:00 (there was absolutely no one else checking in or arriving), we were told by the valet that my husband could not unload our bags while I checked in. He was instructed to proceed to the parking garage where a bellman would meet him. Of course, no one met him and he felt abandoned. It was not the greatest way to be greeted.
I booked the room on the Hilton website. Seemed to have about the same rates at Expedia, etc. and we had the chance to cancel until 24 hours prior. I would stay there again, but would be prepared to insist on baggage assistance.
Awesome Location that Sizzles!
Truely the culture and variety of Jacksonville. Superb accomodations and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse make this an excellent choice for business, leisure and ball game visitors. This facility is fully loaded with all the amenities including a pool and jacuzzi overlooking the water! You can also cruise on a wonderful dinner cruise directly from the hotel's dock! Easy access to downtown and Alltel make this the #1 choice for the truely savvytraveler!
Not True Hilton Quality
I booked the Hilton Riverfront on their website for $62 a night. I thought I was getting a deal, but was very disapointed upon arrival.
I opted to self park and I took my parking ticket. I parked on the lower level and walked in. I took the elevator up to the main level.
The front desk people were friendly and I gave them my Hilton Honors card.
She said that she would wave my parking fees. (This was the best part) I then took the elevator up to my room. I opened the door, and the room was terrible. The rooms were very, very, very small. The two double beds took up the whole room. They cramed a chair in too. The desk was old, the TV stand doors were very hard to open and close.
The bathroom was very, very small. The dark green interior was terrible. The border was falling down too.
The rooms were so dark, it felt as if you were in a prison cell. The next day, I got up around 9AM. I left for the full day and I came back late that night. I walked in, and nothing was done to our room. The beds weren't made, the bathroom wasn't cleaned, etc. I called down to the front desk. She put me on hold for ten minutes. I gave up and I walked down.
She then told me that she was checking in on the matter. She was trying to check the maid's list to see if they had cleaned it. I told her it obvisouly wasn't. She then told me that I probably had my "do not disturb sign out". I told her NO! I couldn't believe she was getting an attitude.
Her manager than came out and offered us two free coupouns to breakfast. She said breakfast starts at 6AM. I told her thanks, but no thanks. My flight left at 6AM so the vouchers were useless.
I will not stay here again. Beware, when booking. I have seen their rates as high as $180 per night.
Good Hotel, Fair rates and excellent staff. I enjoyed my stay and will always come back.
Ecellent Value if you Open Your Eyes
I don't know quite where the other reviewer stayed but the Hilton is awesome. Certainly much nicer than the Adams Mark across the water. The onsite Ruth's Chris and pool are great. The Princess of Jacksonville leaves from the hotel pier and is great for the second night's dinner. The rooms and conference room are fine, certainly better than the Radisson! I found them adequately furnished and very clean!
A truly ugly hotel
If ever a hotel needed a renovation, this would be it. They make a valiant effort to keep the guest rooms clean, but with ugly wallpaper borders and, I'm not kidding, a seashell-scalloped bathroom sink, this place looks like Home Depot circa 1986.The restaurant and bar areas are just crammed into the side of the lobby and should be avoided. The bar at the Ruth's Chris and the end of the corridor has a much better atmosphere. The fitness center is a step up from a joke.Oh and don't think just because you have a "guaranteed late arrival" that there will actually be a room waiting for you. I've had to walk to the not-so-adjacent Radisson at midnight.

We woke up, went straight to the coffee machine, ate breakfast and showered. Uncle Rob was working, so we packed our things up quietly and prepared some road trip snacks. We had to leave at 11am in order to get to Jacksonville Airport by 12noon to drop our rental car off and pick our new one up. So I packed some chicken sandwiches for Aaron and I made a chicken salad so we didn't have to stop for lunch.
We sadly say ...
A late morning wake up around 8:30am, however Aaron was up much earlier and was already out watching the news. I enjoyed a coffee in bed prior to breakfast and showering. Uncle Rob returned to work today, so we decided to run some errands. We had to get to the post office and post some documents home for our passport applications, and post Amy's belated birthday present and some articles of clothing ...

We get home around 8:30pm and begin making a frittata together. By the time it’s ready we eat at 10pm and it was so delicious that there was no left overs. I am extremely exhausted and head to bed straight after dinner as I could barely keep my eyes open. ...
... your boss and her husband, who own a sailboat
As my friend Diana has wisely said, it’s a far better idea to know people who own a sailboat than to own one yourself. That way you get all the benefits of going sailing without having to worry about owning (and maintaining) a boat! As a general rule, however, sailing tends to be more effective when there’s some wind. The morning we chose to go sailing it was so still, the water was like a mirror. ...
