Cairns - well more the hotel first

My flight arrived in Cairns from Sydney yesterday just after 6:30pm. It is such a hassle free pleasure to fly in Australia, honestly! Stepped out of the airport and it was warmer than when I left Sydney in the afternoon. I shared a taxi with a Canadian guy to the hotel. We were going to meet up for a drink but had no way of making arrangements. Anyway, it was nice to be asked. :) The hotel is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I treated myself to 2 nights in the King deluxe spa room with breakfast. I'm telli...

Barrier Reef

What a day! I always knew it would be amazing but I just had no concept of how beautiful the Great Barrier Reef is. I took a tour leaving from Cairns this morning. It was a glorious day, bright, hot sunshine. I sat out on deck most of the trip. It took us about an hour and a half to get out to the pontoon at Moore Reef. Saw some migrating whales along the way. They didn't come close enough for a picture though. At the pontoon, I had decided that I didn't want to go in to the sea. It looked to...

The reef and the rainforest

We survived what was supposed to be the worst cyclone in years to hit the Whitsundays as it eventually fizzled out to nothing in the ocean. We contnued our journey North to the beautiful tropical Magnetic Island. We were to be staying here for 5 nights and the hostel is amazingly placed, right on the beach overlooking the ocean. We began our 4 day open water dive course in the classroom and eventually in the pool. We were given a text book and homework- it was like being back at school! Our f...

Great Barrier Reef

Well, first of all, Merry Christmas! (to everyone who celebrates of course!) Today, we did the most awesome thing! We went scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef! It was absolutely amazing. I'm still in shock of the absolute beauty of all of it. Seeing as it was Christmas Day, very few scuba bookers were operating. We were lucky enough to go on a trip to this place called Marine World which is off of Moore Reef in the GBR (Great Barrier Reef). Pretty much it's this huge pontoon boat with picn...

Did We Land At Daytona Beach?

This morning we got up, got packed, got fed, and hopped on a Quantas flight to Cairns. I must say that Quantas continues to impress me and I'd like to take the Delta Execs on a couple of their flights to show them what airline service is all about.

Our flight was only 3 hours, yet during that time Quantas managed to feed us, show us a movie w/ free headsets, hand out ice cream bars and get us there 10 minutes early! Big switch from the US carriers for sure. I was a little bored while a...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hilton Hotel Cairns

Over-priced

from A TripAdvisor Member
I found the Hilton very over-priced for what it offers. There are other hotels nearby that are much cheaper. The rooms are small, and the bathrooms need renovating. The entrance to your room is outside on a tiled verandah, hence you hear anyone / anything that goes by, as well as doors slamming from the floors near you. Room servicing is inconsistent - not a lot is done on the weekend. The restaurants are reasonably priced and the food is lovely. Breakfast is very good. The tour desk is not always open, but they are helpful. Location is great - central to everything. Lovely pool. The machines and weights in the gym are old.

Convenient Location

Stayed at the Hilton Cairns for a couple of nights.

Best thing about this hotel is the location. It is a 2 minute walk from the wharf where all the tours leave and very close to restaurants and bars.

The room smelled a little funky because of humidity bu the hotel provides a vaporiser for aromatherapy. Other than that the rooms are spacious and newly renovated. Try the pool and spa which were empty when we went.

The staff was friendly but what the hotel calls a concierge is really a bell boy and was not able to provide any reliable recommendations for restaurants. The tour desk was also rather inefficient.

Super stay

Great stay and great service. When I booked this hotel I was a little skeptical as the write up on Hilton was not very impressive. The hotel has a great location, one of maybe 3 hotels of this caliber where the action is. Next door to the Casino, off the boardwalk and very close to where the boats depart to visit the reef. Nice rooms and excellent restaurants. If you are on the executive floor the breakfast and evening reception is first class.

Great Choice

After booking a week at this hotel, I read a less than enthusiastic review of the Hilton on-line. Since my wife had picked the hotel, I did not mention this to her but I was a bit worried. However, I don't know at which Hilton in Cairns (and there is only one) the reviewer stayed but I saw no relationship between the review and the reality.

We had a lovely stay. Room was extremely nice and the hotel's services from laundry to the restaurants were superb. It is ideally located close to the wharf from which the Barrier Reef boats depart.

Love the Hilton !

Actually, we had booked a room in another hotel in Cairns because we got a very good offer overthere. But after one night in the other hotel we felt not good and we wanted to go back to the Hilton where we have stayed a few times before and we felt home immediately ! From the moment we stepped into the lobby it felt good ! Only thing, there were not a lot rooms available anymore. With all that they could do they managed to give us a very nice spa-room ! Recently refurbished, as all the rooms have, very comfortable. The ladies at the Club-lounge were friendly and helpfull and nice to talk to as ever ! As was everybody. Good service from all the staff !

We had breakfast/drinks in the Executive-lounge but we took a look at the breakfast buffet in the restaurant and this was also great !

We are defintely coming back to the Hilton as soon as we can !

None better

We stayed for a few days in December 2003. It is the best located hotel in Cairns. Large comfortable rooms. The dining room had fabulous views and a good buffet selection for breakfast. Very tropical. Wonderful bed. I would definitely go to this Hilton again. Being there was a very pleasant experience.

I have stayed at Hilton Caiens several times. I enjoyed the hospitality every time. I am going to visit your Hotel this October. See you again. e

Good stay at a fair price.

I booked a very affordable basic room online. It was non-refundable so I was a little leery. I was pleasantly surprised with a well-kept king-bedded room overlooking the water and the swimming pool (a little gem in itself.) If you have a balcony, keep the door completely shutthe air conditioning is designed not to operate if the door is ajar. The tropical summer climate is very humid. The staff (for the most part) was very friendly and accommodating. Valter from the tour desk was very helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect for those planning to visit the Great Barrier Reef (tour operators are all just steps away from the hotel. Try Ocean Spirit or Passions of Paradise both are great fun and very customer oriented! You are also just steps away from an endless supply of souvenir shops and markets. The concierge made a few good recommendations for restaurants. It is worth the short taxi ride if they make a recommendation outside of the tourist area. I will be back to visit and will stay at the Hilton Cairns.
