    ... about twenty miles east of Gold Canyon near Superior, Arizona. We were expecting it to be similar to the Tonto National Forest but turned out to be much, much more. It was founded in the early 1920’s by Bryce Thompson who was a mining magnate. It is located in the Sonoran desert and is dominated by Picketpost Mountain and Queens Creek.     Our Canyon Country Adventure with Globus started in Scottsdale. Our friends Pat and Mike from Minneapolis met us at the very nice Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains Hotel. We met our tour director, Daniel Ferro, and the rest of our traveling companions for a meet and greet drink at the hotel. There were 47 of us including a few Aussies.

    ... and carnival in town! Lots of horses ‘parked’ there also. Next stop was Home Depot for more gravel and then home. Later to the clubhouse to see the movie The Butler. It was ok-hard to keep track of the family members and hard to hear/understand. Talked with Saul for a long time earlier and he is happy with his first night on the job.     ... and dinners about half and half. Although we brought some more sophisticated food preparation supplies with us, “cooking” so far has been relegated exclusively to boiling water with our Jet Boil and then adding it to dried stuff in packages. But we are planning to break out the heavy duty cooking tools real soon. Maybe tomorrow. Or the next day. Or when Ronnie catches that fish.....
