New Hotel Needs A Little Tweaking

      from

Nice new hotel. Only a couple of miles from River Street.

Pros New hotel fine location onsite parking close to malls and shopping areas

nice amenities in room such as shampoos, soaps, sewing kits, etc. Nice flat screen tv's great beads. Rooms are good size and comfortable.

Cons: only three baggage carts for check in and two tour buses were unloading when we arrived. Needless to say no help unloading luggage for four.

No free breakfast as offered at Hampton Inns and other hotel chains breakfast is $10.00

No local weather reports or news--yesterday and today under flood warnings and are unable to receive local weather reports. Heard on the radio several streets are flooded and closed--but cannot find out from hotel staff which ones.

Due to rain--satellite out for quite a while. Called front desk no help.

No fans in bathroom bathroom light needs to have a dimmer switch--far too bright if you have to get up in the middle of night

While this hotel has only been opened for a few months the staff needs more training on routes, locations of businesses, and other local information.

All in all a good stay and possible with a little more time will get the kinks worked out.

      Hôtel confortable

      from

      Comfortable Stay

      from

This new hotel in Savannah is located on Abercorn, which is a main road leading into the historic district. The bed and towels were plush, and the hotel personnel even asked if everything was fine when we settled into our room. The nice flat screen TV was also a big plus.

      Ein angenehmer Aufenthalt

      from

      Soggiorno confortevole

      from

Good for a brand new hotel

      from

I wound up booking a room at the Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Midtown to go job hunting in the area. I booked a 2 Queen suite but instead got a regular 2 Queen room...not worth complaining about as my rate was such a steal!!!

The hotel had an OK bar with a fairly limited stock of top-shelf spirits for a top-shelf price. I did not partake in the on-site kitchen as it was far too expensive for my tastes. The room was very nice, though housekeeping was a wee bit lacking (some crumbs in the fridge). There were still some kinks that had to be worked out, though. The printer had not been set up in the business center yet, but the front desk clerk let me use the back office printer to run-off some resumes!

A plus was the free coffee in the morning. It was Starbuck's brand and quite delicious for free hotel coffee.

A negative in all this for the smokers: be aware that this hotel is TOTALLY smoke-free. I went outside to burn one and noticed that there were no butt huts, ashtrays or anything! I finally poured a bit of my coffee on the cigarette and stuck it in the trash can. All in all, a real nice hotel in a safe area of Savannah.

      Ein sehr schönes Hotel

      from

      Albergo molto bello

      from

      from

      Very Nice Hotel

      from

We had our family reunion at this hotel this past weekend. The only event we actually had on site was the banquet on Saturday night. The food was excellent. Service great! Facilities are very nice. Its just a short drive from the historic area, but there's a shuttle that comes to the hotel 3 times a day from the historic district. The rooms were very nice. I usually stay at Marriott brand hotels so I was enamored to have an extremely comfy bed here. I didn't try the breakfast, but from the looks of it, it was probably very good. Each morning I passed the cafe in the lobby it was packed.

The only problem I had was connectivity issues with the wi-fi in room. We went to the business center instead which surprisingly wasn't crowded. I hear that the hotel was pretty full. We couldn't tell as there was always ample parking.

We are leaving Savannah, GA today and sailing directly to the North Central Bahamas.

For those who are interested in a little "nuts and bolts" passage planning - Here is a link to a video of our weather router (Chris Parker) recorded this morning. I ask Chris to comment on our plan.

So, if you are interested in exactly where/when we plan to be for the next few days offshore... here it is! Video length: 5 minutes. BTW - We are "Wabi Sabi" it is our boat's ...

... any sign of human habitation for miles and miles. So, it was going to be an adventure even without the excitement of the boat taking on water.

And so it proved to be. The rivers were huge and vast but the navigable water was skinny and shallow. We had to go at a pretty slow pace in order to avoid hitting bottom. No sirree, Bob, you did not want to go even one inch outside the marked channel. And even staying in the channel did not necessarily guarantee deep water due to ...

... a hot day, so walking into our hotel (the inn at Ellis square) with its air conditioning was a nice experience. There were a few people at the bar area, so we waited a bit until the coach arrived with our bags. Then we got our room keys and went to the rooms. There was a bit of time before the next meet up, so i downloaded pictures from my camera and sorted them, unpacked bags and re sorted, got ready for the next day and relaxed a bit.

It is so hot and humid and of course this campground has no pool. Thank goodness for ac.

The chef whipped up some chicken tenderloin and stir fry for dinner, served with white wine. Next was fruit and chocolate for dessert. Pretty good camp grub!
