Great Until Checkout
My family and have just returned from 2 weeks at the Hilton Garden Inn. All our stay was absolutley fine untill the last day when we had to check out. We knew that we had to vacate our rooms at 11am which was fine what we did not expect that between 11am and our airport check in time 7.30pm the hotel did not have anywhere to store our luggage as the hotel would not let us pay for an additional day or a late check out. Once more the hotel manager told us that there were no complimentery rooms where we could shower and get changed. All he offered us was to get showered in the outside pool area shower and to get changed in the Hotel Lobby public toilets which we was appalled at.
If you are not flying till late avoid this hotel.
Best hotel I've stayed at in Orlando
My wife and I have just returned from 14 nights at Hilton Garden Inn and found it to be the best hotel we've stayed at in Orlando (and we've stayed in quite a fair few of them) - as others have described it's nearly new (opened early 2004) and,although only a small hotel (which we regard as a good thing!),it's as close to perfect as you can get;check-in staff were unbelievably polite and helpful,hotel is spotlessly clean,pool is ideally proportioned and appointed,room was excellent size and wonderfully supplied with Neutrogena products,small fridge,microwave,coffee-maker,tv with great reception - all in all we couldn't ask for anything else. Please don't believe that the location is less than desirable;there's nothing wrong with American Way whatsoever - there are three new hotels in this road so it can't be that bad!! As for someone stating that it's not close to anything - what? It's about a one minute walk to an I-HOP,one minute the other direction to Denny's diner,two minutes walk to Wet n Wild,three minutes to Walgreens (which sell nearly everything handy and are open 24 hours),one mile to Universal/Citywalk etc etc - how close can you get? Still,we loved it and would go back tomorrow with no qualms whatsoever.
Great hotel and room
My husband I stayed here while he attended a business conference. While the rooms are not as nice as the homewood Suites next door, they are pleasant. The lobby was very nice, too. The front desk was friendly but not very helpful about things to do in the area, which seemed weird since this was Orlando! The hotel also has fresh baked cookies at the front desk for a few hours in the evening. The hotel has a small "restaurant" in the front of the lobby, too. The prices are a bit steep, so I'd advise eating away from the hotel. The fitness room is small with 6 or 7 machnes. I believe there wer twoels there, too. The room was very clean, with a desk, work chair, microwave, and refrigerator. I was not fond of the air conditioning unit, as we could never keep it from getting too cold or too humid. The furniture was traditional faux cherry and in great condition. We stayed at this hotel for four days and never real problems, but the housekeeper did forget to take our dirty towels with her one time (even though she left fresh towels---go figure!). Overall, it was a great stay!
Make sure you receive a non-smoking room if you request one
My husband is a Hilton Honors member and requested a non-smoking room through an online booking. We arrived around 7 pm or so, and checked into our room. We quickly smelled the odor of smoke in our room (as it was apparently a smoking room) and my husband went downstairs to get a non-smoking room, as we had requested in our booking. Apparently there were only two rooms left in the hotel, so we were given a room on the first floor. We had booked a King room, but then to get a non-smoking room, had to take a room with two double beds instead. I do not usually like the first floor. However, for the first floor, it was fairly quiet. We were told the first floor had WIRELESS high speed internet access. (The other floors had high speed internet we were told, but not wireless.) However, no wireless connection signal could be found in our room, so we had to use the wired/cable hook up provided in the room to obtain internet access. The access was fine, but I was confused because we were specifically told the first floor had wireless internet. We have used wireless internet on our laptop in other hotels with no problems, so it appears there was no wireless service available in our room.
The room was beautiful and very elegant. It was very clean, and one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. The pillows were feather, but two non-feather pillows were provided in the closet. The beds were very comfortable. Nice Neutrogena products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) and a shower cap were provided, and the bill was placed under our door in the morning. We did the express check out using the phone, and it worked great.
The hotel is close to Universal. We drove to Universal - Citywalk that evening and had a great time, with only a short trip back to our hotel. The hotel seemed quite new. The bathroom was very clean, which is very important to me.
My husband went in the hot tub and stated that it was very hot - really too hot for his enjoyment. We did not eat at the hotel, as there was a cheaper $3.99 all you can eat breakfast buffet at a restaurant down the street.
One of the great perks about this hotel chain is the fact that we did book our room online, and Hilton features a guarantee that if you find the same hotel for cheaper on another site within 24 hours of your online booking and they are able to confirm the lower rate, they will send you a $50 American Express Gift Cheque. We DID find the same hotel cheaper on another website and submitted a claim, so they lowered our rate to the low rate we had found (from $79 or so, to $73), plus they are sending us a $50 AMEX Gift Cheque. So, our total stay for one night will be only $23, plus the tax we paid on the $73 cost of the room. (You have to pay the tax on the cost of the room, before the Gift Cheque.) So, all in all, that made our stay a wonderful one. I doubt that we could've found a cheaper room anywhere else, especially at some place this nice. So, be sure to check around and if you find a lower price within 24 hours, submit your claim!
Good hotel, not great location
Rooms are spacious and extremely clean (but it is an almost new hotel).
Food in the restaurant was very nice and not too pricey but the location of the restaurant is not great, in the foyer, no privacy. Also there is no bar worth talking about.
Pool area was very good, loads of loungers, cabanas, etc. Also plenty of towels.
Staff were very polite and obliging.
Ideal for Universal and Wet `n` Wild.
One shortcoming is the location of the hotel itself, slightly off the main drag and not well lit at night.
Overall an enjoyable stay but there are better value hotels nearby.
One of the best
The hotel was pleasing to the eye, the lobby, the rooms, the outdoor pool and spa area. The staff went out of their way to provide us with everything we needed. The room was unexpectedly lovely, and very clean and fresh. The pool area and the gardens surrounding were beautiful. Everything was top rate!
Nice hotel with a few issues
We arrived late to the Hilton Garden Inn North. We were given a smoking room when a non smoking was requested. This was corrected but not without some searching by the desk clerk who informed me that this was the room I requested.
The new room we were given was clean and stocked with 3 bath towels, 4 glasses, soap, shampoo, mouthwash. The fridge and microwave are a nice touch. The coffee maker was broken but was replaced after my complaint. The hotel is very close to Univeral Studios. Hotel offers a free shuttle service however there are only 2 pick ups and returns daily. Note: Pick up is NOT at the hotel but out at the end of the driveway of the hotel. We were not informed of this and almost missed the bus. Bus stops at 5 hotels and was SRO when it got to us. We opted to drive ourselves the next day.
While we were out at the park the hotel decided to shampoo the carpets in our room. We returned to wet carpets. When we complained at the desk they told us they had all the first floor rooms cleaned. This is the first time I have ever experienced this anywhere. The desk refused our request to change rooms. Instead they brought in a carpet dryer. This did the trick but kept us out of the room for awhile.
Pool is heated, hot tub is at 104 degrees (too hot for me!). Pool towels are size of hand towels. Pool area is nice however there is no shade except for cabanas. Hotel bill under the door on check out morning. Express check out via your room phone is nice. Free internet hook up. TV has internet (fee), video games and free HBO. Restaurant seemed pricey for breakfast buffet. Many other choices on International Drive. Note: If you are arriving after dark the street this hotel is on is very difficult to find. American Way street sign is well of the roadway.
All in all this is a new and very clean hotel with a very convienant location to Universal Studios.
Small but nice hotel, less nice location
Good for budget travelers, who want cleanliness above all. Small but nice, very clean hotel (it is new). Service is acceptable. Clerck is friendly. Hotel location is bad, cheap looking area and hotels in the surroundings. Very small pool, I haven't used it. I was there for business in 3/2005, payed $100/night through an intermediary agency, strong suspicion I've been overcharged. DO NOT expect a true "Hilton" quality.
Very very nice
Really clean rooms as well as the rest of the hotel, great work out room, pool area does not have much personality especially at night its lit like a basketball court but good size jacuzzi, very friendly staff. complimentary high speed, laundry on 3floors..I highly recommend it and they will honor there coupon rate thats amazing for a hotel that clean. Soft beds also. There are an amazing amount of terrible hotels in tpa/orlando area so this is a great place if you appreciate CLEAN at a decent price especially if you pay out of your own pocket and do not have the luxury of a corp. act.
Clean, new and efficient
My wife and I stayed here from 9th through 14th Oct 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is virtually brand new so everything works and looks good. The staff are also very helpful and friendly, especially those in the breakfast room. The room includes a fridge, coffee maker and microwave (standard for Garden Inns, I expect) and we had no problems getting extra coffee when we ran out one night.
A couple of minor things to watch out for -- the parking lot is barely adequate when the hotel is full. We came back very late one night, the lot was full and someone really considerate had parked a U Haul attached to a pickup truck across 4 spaces. Complaining to the desk clerk didn't get the rig moved but did get the OK to park outside the marked spots which was fine. The second niggle is that the location, while very convenient for I4 as it's right on an exit, isn't really within walking distance of anything. Car is essential. Universal is really close but Disney is 20 - 30 minutes depending on traffic. Bar closes at 9:00 which wasn't a problem for us but could have been used if open longer.
All in all, a pleasant, relaxing hotel.
