In roughly a 180 degree radius, the water stretches as far as the eye can see, which is remarkable considering the body of water is entirely locked within the United States - indeed Lake Michigan, we learnt, is the only lake to not border both Canada and the States. We also learnt how easy it is to wind up Chicagoians. Two surefire ways to do this are to call the Sears Tower the "Willis Tower" and unfavourably compare the city to New York at every possible occassion.

    ... before retiring at a Motel 6. Normally, we don't stay at Motel 6's but this one looked good and after we checked in were pleasantly surprised as it was a wonderful motel. The room was big, clean and obviously recently redecorated with hardwood floors, two platform beds and stylishly outfitted with "retro" furnishings. All we could say was "wow" when we walked in.
    We continued our travels east through a piece of Pennsylvania and into New York.
