... there we took it easy and went to Rockford, IL in two days, about 95km. We couldn't find a warmshower host so we turned to couchsurfing. The next day we cycled to White Pine Forest State Park (60km, 37 miles). We met up with cousin John and his friends. We stayed a couple nights, tubed down the Rock river, had lots of fun!
We found lions!

We found zebras!
We found cantaloupes!! (she means camels)

... seemed to reciprocate Oriah's affections and tried to come say hello (or scope out if he could eat her - both are likely :) up close! The kids were thrilled!!!
There were zoo keepers who ran shows all over the park and we caught a few of them, including one where thy are researching primate intelligence using a computer program and learning how a silverback gorilla and some of the other primates can use memory- it is super cool!

A huge quantity, very creamily and softly mashed ("Grandma" Marie's special method using the hand mixer) - they were perfect, as was the whole meal. ... is where I went to college.) My mind found the scenery 90% foreign, having not been there for at least 15 years. I mean truly unrecognizable, not even a little. I have so many rich memories of that city that I found it surreal that I could not more easily identify the sites from the freeway. I chose not to diverge further from my path to go visit Drake University, my alma mater. That would have been a rabbit hole ...
