Mexico lindo

When a tire blows - you stop!

Monday the 13. We had to get up early in the morning to pack. We brought stuff from the house to the motor home. We stopped doing that at 1:30. When we left, we got on highway 83.w. We had a blowout on highway 83n. We heard a lot of noise and the rv started to shake. We waited 3 to 4 hours on the side of the road and the temp was 110*. Papaw brought out chairs and we sat in the shade of ...

The Day Before...

... to a taxi stand. I hadn't been to Nuevo Laredo in probably around 5 years or so, and I had heard it had become very dangerous. But everything was fine and went very smoothly. After a $5 cab ride to the Bus Station, we got our tickets and waited to board. The bus station was very nice, and the buses are too. I am really surprised how easy it was to get over into Mexico, and wonder if we may actually have more trouble getting back into the states. -Homero - Nuevo Laredo, Mexico

Cristmas '07

... This was us for Christmas now. James was enjoying himself as the fish were biting and caught a big catfish and 2 huge carp. Christmas Day was not the affair we have been accustomed to in the past. The kids had a couple of small presents each and $20 each from their Grandpa and Granny Carol. With Dads blessing they all decided they would pool their money and offer a local lady $60 for the cute unfortunate ...

Leaving Laredo

... Louie at their house. From there we went to a locally owned Mexican café , Victoria's Mexican Restaurant, and had a great dinner. It wasn't that late, but we had the whole place to ourselves. Louie mentioned that he was writing a book and it just happens that Paul published a book last year so they exchanged information of how he got it published. Before we left, Paul gave him an autographed copy of the book, 'Old ...

Mexican Border

... the smell on this side of the border... and it wasn't Graham. The bus dropped us at Nuevo Laredo which wasn't scary at all however I wouldn't have crossed that street to go to one of the bars. We picked up our tickets for the Mexico city bus and went through to wait buying the worlds most expensive sandwich at $11 until we realised he'd short changed us and I somehow managed to remember enough Spanish to get the rest. It was a very nice bus, v comfortable but ...

In seach of Frontera

... but has been repaired so I turned on the gas. Not long after crossing into the state of Coahuila, I encountered the first military checkpoint of the day. They were interested in the pack I had strapped down to the seat and I had to get off the bike and open it up for them. Soon I was back on my way and the road was mostly flat and straight. There was little traffic so I turned it up to about 85 mph and tried to make up some of the time I had lost. Ninety four miles ...

Saturday Round One

... out to be a big mistake that cost dearly in the first loop. The Rider's Meeting got started a little late and we didn't get underway until 9:47 and lucky for me the Trialsmaster gave us some extra time as many of the morning riders didn't finish by the 12:30 cut off time. Section one was an easy one at the end of the overflow parking area that wound around and over some rocks. I was not properly warmed up and took two dabs on a section that I would easily clean on the next two attempts ...

Day Twenty-Nine

... s legal offerings and Zoobley and I returned to America having purchased only a couple of colorful blankets. We spent a while bartering with the shopkeeper just for the fun of it while her husband sat in the background yelling something to the effect of "No perro aqui! No perro aqui!" Zoobley politely ignored him and made herself comfortable on a low pile of rugs. Disconcertingly, I noticed numerous cardboard ...
