Historical Traveler Reviews Hilton Garden Inn New York - Chelsea New York City

Clean and decently kept, but nothing particularly special. The location isn't bad, especially if you don't mind walking. The elevators can drive you crazy, as thee are only two and they are used for guests and service personnel. All in all, a perfectly functional business type hotel, with high speed internet, that is good value if you can get a reduced rate.

      Comfy and a good deal

Stayed here for one night over Thanksgiving weekend and got a good deal in part because NYC fills up fast that weekend and this hotel was brand spankin new. The location is perfect if you are going to an event at Madison Square Garden, as I was, or traveling into Manhattan via Penn Station. You are also not that far from Times Square at a much better price. The hotel is located in the middle of a block on a relatively (for New York) quiet street.

Rooms were decent sized for NYC. Beds were super comfy. Of course, any brand new hotel will be pretty clean and in good shape. TV was a little confusing to use however. Good channel lineup though.

I would definitely stay here again!

So far, my favorite NYC Hotel

This hotel is located in a business/residential area of Chelsea. The area isn't swarmed by tourists and is relatively quite and secluded. The hotel personnel were welcoming and helpful. The rooms were well kept and well appointed. I did not have any problems during my stay and would recommend this hotel to others. Rooms are large by NYC standards.

      Tidy and convenient

Very tidy rooms and a reasonable size. Good location with nice foyer. Slowish lifts. Simple exercise room

      Ordentlich und praktisch

Sehr ordentliche und recht große Zimmer. Gute Lage mit einer schönen Eingangshalle. Langsame Aufzüge. Einfacher Fitnessraum.

It was perfect: the room was a decent size, very comfortable beds, clean and modern bathroom, flat screen tv with tons of channels, the staff was incredible, super nice, very helpful, always smiling (Jose at the front desk was especially nice), the breakfast was a knockout (full American breakfast, made to order, great healthy food), great location to get to midtown or downtown/Soho. The elevators were just a little slow (if I HAD to find a negative), but overall really, really great. And reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the city. We had just gotten back from Europe and this hotel beat the pants off all of those and this one was way less expensive. Stop looking for another hotel and book here.

This new hotel is perfect: Great location near the Fashion Institute of Technology, helpful staff, subway on the corner, quiet, sunny, reasonable room size, free wireless internet, super-comfortable beds. There is even an abundance of electric outlets in all the right places. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. Great hotel for the business traveler or for a weekend getaway. This 'Garden Inn' is fittingly located on a side street lined with flower wholesalers. Easy walk to Chelsea, Penn Station and Fifth Avenue shops. Will stay here next time I go to New York. (I'm not submitting photos because the rooms look EXACTLY like they do on the hotel website)

      Good Hotel, Bad double charging

Stayed here on the second night after it opened.

As you'd expect the hotel was in good condition. The staff were friendly and helpful but still finding their feet.

The rooms were a reasonable size for new york and were nicely laid out.

Comfy beds but noisy aircon unit.

There is no safe in the room which is a bit of a hassle as you have to use a deposit box at reception which is a pain.

All in all i was happy with the hotel and my 2 night stay until i found out i was charged twice. Once when i prepaid on Hilton.com and then again by the Hotel itself.

When i rang to have this rectified the Hotel first tried to tell me i'd spent over $900 bucks on incidentals which was laughable. When they eventually admitted there error i requested they reverse the transaction instead of refund as otherwise the currency flucuations wouls leave me out of pocket.

As you can guess they refunded ignoring my request and cost me an additional €40 which i now have to chase Visa for.

So Hotel good Staff friendly but incompetent....

      Brand New and Beautiful

Brand New hotel. I wasn't expecting it to be new as I did not make my booking. It was a great suprise to learn when I checked in that it was only their first week open. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are perfect. They have great Flat /HD TV's and lots of channels.

I had breakfast in the morning, although not included in the rate it was worth the $15 or so dollars for it. The chef was happy and fast in our orders and the amount of options were well worth it.

I will definitely be staying again.

I had intended to buy a cheap mobile phone with a US SIM card to avoid UK data roaming charges, but the price of the phone and the card would have been a false economy in the end. (If only O2 had allowed me to unlock my phone with them.)

... quicken my pace. We do eventually get out of the area, but let me say, it is a vast area, much like Hamilton South Department of Housing area. It may be safe, but it really doesn't feel safe to me.

We find our way to the Subway and get a wrong train and end up in the Bowery- another not-so-nice place in the subway. Fortunately, we manage to get a train fairly quickly and get back on track. What I love about New York is the subway. You can get ...

... were on our way to catch the bus. More gifts and brief conversations, we were just about the last to board. The other delegates were loaded down too. So after diinner with the kids at a nearby smorgasboard type establishment, it was back to the hotel to pack and see how we were going to fit all our stuff in. Helen did that really well. We were still under the weight limit, although our cases were groaning at the seams (or zips). So that brings us ...

With lots of cycling under our belts we grabbed some delicious sandwiches from a nearby deli and had a relaxing lunch in front of one of the park lakes - bliss! Feeling like we deserved a treat after all our hard work cycling we headed to our local TGI Fridays for happy hour margaritas and nibbles.
