... I was still pretty exhausted and didn't have my head in the game the way I should have. I am sure that I will learn to stay closer to my camera in future ventures so I don't lose the memories of what makes all this travel so great.
Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States sirsmonkey42Although cool this morning (low 40's) the day was mainly sunny and warm - a good day to go exploring. After Don did his baking - Beer cheese bread and banana loaf - we headed off to find Point Clear and other points on our map. In the late 60's I attended an international Agricultural Leadership Conference at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear and was really intrigued with the area. It didn't disappoint today. Punta Clara, a candy and pecan store that I ...
Silverhill, Alabama, United States momadunc... much above the mid fifties today - pleasant and sunny with a strong breeze out of the northwest. We stopped at the visitors center for the Gulf Islands National Seashore for lunch and a walk along the shore before continuing into Alabama, still on hwy 98. We did not see much of the shoreline in Alabama as the hwy is about a mile inland through agricultural land at this point. Our neighbor tonight tells us the beaches are even ...
Silverhill, Alabama, United States momadunc... Thank goodness too that they have a state park. I swear if it wasnt for that, there truly would be nothing but condos along the coast! After a beach stroll, we drove off to Foley and happend upon Lamberts Cafe- famous for 'throwed rolls'. Get this deal: I ask for carry out rolls- they only sell them by 1/2 dozen. (ok i think, ive seen this scam before- whadya want? $2/roll, min of 6 rolls?.......NO!!! 1/2 dozen= $2.97!!!!) Im in heaven. Not ...
Foley, Alabama, United States mobertsAfter a long drive through the interior of our fine country on Highway 51 and then a shortcut across Mississippi, I arrived in Mobile, Alabama. A place I had never even come close to prior to this trip. I knew about it from Jimmy Buffett songs but that's about it. My friend Jimbo and his wife have a house on the east side of Mobile Bay and that is where this trip gets its start. Our first mini-trip was to Florida (of all ...
Mobile, Alabama, United States quietwaterfilms... of the first times I had ever swam in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf the water is much warmer and there are hardly no waves at all. This means that there are a creepy amount of fish all over the place. They surround your legs as you stand in the water and you can feel them brushing up against you and occasionally even nibbling you.
Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States buteng1(48)JUNE 5, 2009
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STAY AT THE BEACH. THE KIDS CAME IN THE NEXT NIGHT AT THE SUGAR BEACH CONDO. WE GOT THERE FIRST BECAUSE WE WANTED TO STAY ANOTHER DAY. WE STAYED AT AMERICA'S BEST INNS AND SUITES. WE REALLY DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. WE WERE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. THE ROOM WAS REALLY NICE. HAD A GOOD STAY THAT NIGHT. THE WEATHER WAS JUST WONDERFUL ...
Orange Beach, Alabama, United States lapetitegrande3... wonderful. It did rain but mostly all around us. When it did rain we were at the Wharf and on our way to Johnny Rockets. It was fun and the food was really good. We usually don't play the juke box but did this time. I was surprised by the song my daughter-in-law played. I did not know she likes the Temptations! We ate at our favorite places again and again the food was delicious. One place we ...
Orange Beach, Alabama, United States lapetitegrande3Neil decided that he was taking us back to Biloxi this morning in an attempt to find somewhere nice to sample some of the local cuisine for lunch. The journey only took us around 30 minutes and we arrived just before 11.30. The plan was to find somewhere to park and then have a wander and hopefully find somewhere to eat along the way. As we drove around the surprisingly small centre, we realised that there wasn't really anything to see and there especially didn't ...
Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States thebusmonkeys... from the lakeshore, where he kept his boat in the water and fished whenever he wanted to. There was an abundance of good restaurants on the beach road nearby, as well as a big WalMart. For those of you that don't know, WalMart is rather important to the RV life. Most of them allow overnight parking, as well as, most of the stores now are SuperCenters that have groceries, pharmacies, beauty salons, and just about anything else, so it's an easy one-stop place. etc.
