    ... a WWII era submarine, the USS Drum. This submarine was commissioned in 1941 and saw plenty of battle as well. If you have never been in a sub, it is amazing to think that over 70 people could be in those cramped quarters for long periods of time, underwater. That would not be an assignment for me.

    Leaving Carrabelle area. Sad to go. It was such a great time here. Once we got on the panhandle...Traffic, traffic, holy cow. We stayed off the interstate and suffered with so much stop and go traffic. Not the best choice to get here but we made it to Gulf Shores once again. Love this park.     ... to save money. We tour the island and enjoy a picnic lunch in Cadillac Square Park, under lovely evergreens and live oaks. The internet reports that they are referred to as live oaks (or evergreen oaks) because they never go dormant.
