A great start to our holiday ...
We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Lax (as opposed to the Hilton Inn Lax) last week pre-cruise. Although it is NOT in San Pedro or Long Beach - IF you are just interested in a great place to stay, I would highly recommend it. We called them from the airport (free phone lines on the wall near luggage carosels at LAX) - they were there to get us within 10 min. Offered to take us to Manhatten Beach for the evening which was about a 15 min drive away (no charge - just a tip for the driver)- then picked us up again a couple hours later (again no charge!). They recommended the Rock N Fish in Manhatten Beach for supper and it was amazing! In the evening we used their outdoor pool and hot tub - very clean and in a lovely setting. The room was beautiful as was the whole hotel.
Our room came with b'fast for ($89 night) which was actually their Sunday Brunch. We really couldn't believe the great deal it is. Sunday after brunch they offered to call a SUV taxi for us (they saw all our luggage!) and the tab for the drive to San Pedro was about $45.00 and took less than 1/2 hour in Sunday traffic.
I wasn't the least bit sorry that we didn't stay in San Pedro after seeing what a commercial area it is. Long Beach may be nicer but our evening at Manhatten Beach couldn't be beat anyway! Just thought someone might be interested...
Staff, housekeeping, maintenance need attention
Odd that a relatively new Hilton Garden could have the flaws that this one did. Long wait (50 mins.) for the airport shuttle on arrival, even though the inn claimed it ran every half-hour and I had called ahead from the tarmac at LAX. Once settled in, things like a broken desk chair, broken toilet lever (had to use the paper clip repair again) and inoperative in-room coffee maker (worst of all, especially at 4AM PT 7AM ET) gave me great pause. Otherwise the room was good size, the thermostat programmable, the bed comfortable, the wired Internet access high-speed enough. After my first night I discovered housekeeping lapses despite my having left a generous chambermaid tip: tissues not replenished, ashtray not cleaned, furniture not dusted. Then on departure I showed for the LAX shuttle 5 minutes before departure (as per the Front Desk) and then waited another 30 minutes to leave.
Somehow this place gives the impression of having been ridden hard early on and put away wet---the fault lies with poor supervision of staff and a lack of attention to detail and maintenance, which can be fatal even in a new property. My business colleague stayed at the big Hilton near LAX and had a much, much more satisfactory stay for only $25/night more than I paid for this place. Lesson learned: never choose lodging solely on price.
Wonderful Hotel, the rooms are extremely clean, grounds are beautiful, and it is convenient to many businesses and attractions. The breakfast buffet is also very good with an excellent selection and made to order french toast, pancakes, etc. Have stayed at another Hilton Garden Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia and that location was also excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again!
Wonderful Place of rest and comfort
I have just returned from LA and spend a total of 4 days at the hotel. The place is clean nice and wonderful room. Furthermore, with its wireless and in room wired FREE Internet access it makes traveling both on business and leisure such a comfort. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. With their help I got my Jan 1st booking for a rate of 89USD plus breakfast.
The cook and the waiter were extremely helpful as I have woke up late for my breakfast. They have packed everything in but I told them as I would be flying off in 2 hours they made me a wonderful breakfast of ham and fried eggs.
Right next to it is the metro line and if you drive it is only 5 min drive to Manhantten beach where you can enjoy both shopping, ocean view and food.
What a great hotel. Very friendly staff, very clean and comfortable rooms. Very well priced, beautiful grounds, and a great breakfast in the morning. I can't think of one negative thing to say about this hotel. If your staying in the El Segundo area for any amount of time, this is the place to stay.
Best price = close to beach
I spent three straight days lounging on Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, and this hotel was the best price for the best location close to the water.
South Bay has probably the best beaches in LA, with surf and long broad stretches of sand and food and drink all nearby. It is by the airport, but also so close and convenient to Manhattan Beach.
Even Better than Expected
I just stayed 2 nights during a multi-day business trip around LA. The Hilton Garden Inn was recommended to me by my contact at Mattel. El Segundo is a funny little town next to LAX. At night the area around the hotel is completely desolate as it is the area where many comapnies HQ's are located.....Mattel, Raytheon, Boeing, etc..... Drive to the coast from the hotel and you are in charming Manahattan Beach in ten minutes (it's a wonderful area).
The hotel is in perfect condition and has many fine amenities such as breakfast buffet in the AM, easy parking, like-new rooms, small but useful business center and a nice pool area. This hotel is quiet, clean and a great location for business visitors. I recommend it highly and would stay there again.
I called it home for two months!
As a consultant on a three-month project nearby, I needed a comfortable, functional business hotel to call 'home' for a while. After trying different nearby hotels for several weeks, we settled on this one. Perfect for the business traveler - free inroom high-speed internet, free business center with copier and fax, in-room microwave and fridge (which I loved for quick take out), comfortable newly renovated rooms, small but adequate fitness room, and good buffet breakfast. Only downside was that I had two or three occasions where ants literally took over the room. But management is quite aware of the problem, and every time dealt with the matter quickly. Don't leave food out - keep it in the fridge, take the trash down. Otherwise, no complaints. I think other business travelers were on to this place - I'd advise booking at least two or three weeks in advance for weekdays.
Comfort and space in LA for pennies
Nowhere in LA would have been ideal as a central location for all sites - the Hilton was good for the beaches (and airport on the last day).
The amenities are excellent - comfortable and large rooms, choice of dining (a little expensive when compared with our Las Vegas stay, but a local Denny's was good value for breakfasts). Pool is small but functional, gym is large but costs extra to enter. This hotel provided a very comfortable base for exploring LA
This Hotel is AWESOME! Its so beautiful inside, the food is so good, the rooms were nice, and the service was excellent!I had a huge box that needed to arrive it was about 9 feet tall by 3 feet wide, they stored it for me, and were excellent about helping me out with it, and load it onto the top of my rental car, they put us in a corner room, and we opened the windows at night and would watch the planes fly in, right next to our windows, it was better than watching TV! Its a totally romantic place to stay!
